I was loyal of 20+ years to my old dentist, but won't be going back! I had a second crown done with Dr. Appelhans and it was a pleasant experience (as much as it could be!). I had a lot of anxiety with my first crown at another dentist that left me very nervous. However, Dr. Appelhans and her team provided options to me for anxiety and made sure I was comfortable, even with a warm blanket! The chairs there also are heated and have massage options. I did have to call when my temporary crown fell off because I was chewing gum (whoops!) and Dr. Appelhans answered the after hours call by calling me back right away to help me (I was surprised I actually heard from her and not someone in her place). I came back for my permanent crown and it was easy and had a teeth cleaning also that day. Overall, I had a great experience and would recommend! Thank you Dr. Appelhans and team!

Before even being seen, I paid up front and explained my financial situation. During the appointment, a staff member came into the room and told me I'd have to pay more or they wouldn't be able to proceed with treatment. I was already overwhelmed and in tears, and I reminded them I had already paid. She apologized and left the room. Later, I received a $300 bill for an incomplete root canal. Because of the way they coded and billed it, my insurance didn't cover anything -- it didn't even apply toward my deductible. Then I was told I'd have to wait to finish the procedure until my deductible reset the following year and I could afford the rest. Eventually, the bill doubled and was sent to collections. On top of that, they never explained that the crown (which is essential to complete a root canal) would be a separate and significant additional cost. I'm now left with an incomplete root canal and a $700 bill, and no clear communication throughout the process. UPDATE: I've uploaded a photo to clarify that the work was never completed, despite their claims. Transparency and clear communication are essential in healthcare -- unfortunately, I didn't experience that here. They also have a tendency to lie on public forums, obviously. I went to this location on a weekend and they had the B team front office staff on for the day. The problem was that they could not figure out what insurance I had although I provided all the information they required. Another office was able to use my information and get my insurance benefits sorted without a hiccup. The second string front desk at the Tigard location didn't bother to look any further or even address me as I just did a simple google search on my phone to find the information that they get paid to find. I had the same procedure performed in the Beaverton location several years back. The Beaverton office was able to get me check in, perform a filling, and get me billed and out of the office within an hour. I arrived to the Tigard location 20 minutes before my appointment, ran into the untrained front desk lady, and stayed for 30 minutes without having anything done. The most they did was ask me for my address, which I already gave them over the phone. They could not provide me with a solid quote, even though I had the same procedure done in the past. They told me that the "dentist" will tell me during the procedure (just like in a previous review). Definitely a waste of time, horrible customer service experience, and not a good reflection of what they will do with your teeth!

These are all prices after my insurance. They couldn't accommodate me at Beaverton since their molar root canal person only was available when I needed to work. They checked the other offices and good news, there was an appointment available at the Tigard office in two weeks. I go to the Tigard office and sit in the chair. The Doctor suggests we should try to do the filling instead of going straight for the root canal. Okay, let's try it. They are halfway through the procedure and a guy comes in and shows me a paper saying the cost would be $175. I said okay. After the procedure I go to pay the price on the credit card machine read $275. I was like, "You said it was $175 just a few minutes ago." The guy said "Oh my bad I forgot to add in (some other stuff)." I'm kind of bewildered and confused just having my mouth worked over. So I go to my bank app and transfer more money to my account to pay this guy who is basically robbing me. Just not realizing what's going on, I pay the guy and leave. They gave me an Rx for pain pills when I never asked for them. Quite frankly I'm surprised they are not under investigation by the state or at the very least the Better Business Bureau. They do work on teeth... But beware of their quoted price... They will charge you way more than what they tell you. I barely make enough to live here in Portland at $20/hr and then there are businesses that outright rob their customers. This business practice needs to change. Remember, the root canal was never necessary. Only the filling for $7.30 and I was quoted $175 mid process. It was an absolute surprise to see the $275 price on the credit card machine when I was checking out.
