Great experience with a periodontic exam from Dr. Grant. She was professional and patiently explained exactly what was going on with my teeth & gums, with clarity and respect and without judgment. As I turned out I didn't need further treatment. I (weakly) joked to her "may our paths never cross again," but in fact I would be delighted to be her patient going forward, if further perio care was needed or if she was a regular DDS. The front office was very organized too. I completed paperwork online and they didn't make me duplicate it via the usual clipboard. I gave my name when I arrived, saw the doctor, and was on my way without presenting an insurance card or giving a copay. Great stuff. Thx again Dr. Grant! read more

Very disappointing experience at Gentle Dental Progress Ridge. I made it very clear when booking that I was looking for a lingual/fixed retainer, and they still scheduled me for an appointment. After taking the time to come in, I was told that they don't even offer this treatment and was given the excuse that it is "bad for the teeth." This is completely misleading and shows a lack of respect for the patient's time. If a clinic doesn't provide a service, they should say so upfront instead of wasting people's time and money. I would not recommend this office to anyone looking for honest and professional communication. read more

I've been going to this Gentle dental for some years now, and for the most part, they are kind and pretty great. But lately my last visits has been far from "Gentle", I had half deep cleaning and root scaling in June, it hurt so bad even with the numbing agent. I let it go , today I had the other half done. It hurt SO bad, I told them it hurt and that I could feel everything! The DEEP probing and digging into the gums. The hygienist chuckled. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, so the fact that I left feeling traumatized and violated should say a lot! This is warning, I've done a deep cleaning with Dr Grant and she's great (and really the staff seem patient and professional) I felt Little to no pain. Zero stars!!! I saw Dr. Samuel Greenstein in October 2018. He told me I had a cavity. Because I wasn't very happy with my overall experience there, and I was in between jobs & insurance, I decided to wait on getting it filled. Six months later (April 2019) I saw a different dentist at a different location & NO CAVITY!!! Hmmm? Why would Dr. Greenstein want to perform unnecessary treatment & drill my tooth for NO reason? My daughter had an appointment, which then got changed to a different day. When she showed up for the appointment she was told that the time was wrong, 1pm instead of 1:30. Errors happen, I get that. The reason I am leaving the bad review is she was treated very rudely and in an extremely belittling manner. There is no excuse for this, ever. It's hard changing dentists after 18 years but we recently moved to the area and needed to find a new dentist. Went for a cleaning and check up for the first time just after the new year. Friendly enough people in the office, although getting our dental insurance all straightened out was a minor issue. I don't know the exact price for a visit and cleaning but we did pay twice as much co-pay than we ever did with our previous dentist. I am finding that most everything is a little more expensive in Oregon. Everything worked out just fine in the end though. The office seems state-of-the-art and is well kept. I had Dr. Gazarian and he was very nice and made me feel comfortable. Fortunately, I had no dental issues and only needed a cleaning. He did ask me if I was interested in braces (?) I laughed out loud and declined because I have only one slightly crooked tooth and at my age I haven't had any problems and am certainly not interested in impressing anyone. I like that the office is about 5 minutes from our house too. We did make our next 6 month cleaning appts for July so we will be back. So far so good. read more

I went here for a few years and the service was ok at first. A few fillings here and there. No problem, right? I didn't go back for a while. Maybe 6 months. The dentist said I needed 5 fillings. Which I thought was odd but ok, I went with it. They did such a bad job with those two fillings, I ended up having to have a root canal to stop the pain from the fillings. I was in pretty bad pain for several weeks. The dentist said it should go away within a few more weeks. It did not. Several more weeks later, I was taking ibuprofen for longer than I should have, because of the pain. I went back in on an emergency visit because it was so bad. At that point there was nothing else they could do. They drilled way too close to the root. So they had to remove the root causing the pain. I want to state that the tooth was not rotten or bad or decaying beyond repair at all. It just had a small cavity. This should have been routine. To my recollection there was no indication by the dentist or anyone beforehand that a root canal was anywhere near the realm of possibility. Instead, I ended up with an unplanned crown, and a $470 bill. Also no honeymoon for the wife and I either, with this surprise $470 bill hanging over our heads. I paid it though, in full at the time of service. To top it all off, about 7-8 months after this happened, they sent me a bill for $240 because there was an issue with my insurance and they decided not to pay. I really couldn't afford to pay the $240. But I wanted to do the right thing, so I told them I couldn't afford it and we settled on around $140, which was a win win. They get something out of it, and I paid as much as I could afford at the time. Now, 10 months later, they're trying to bill me another $77 for damage. I spoke with the office, and am going to try to speak with the manager, but I feel like this isn't right. How long after service, that I keep paying for in full, am I going to be getting bills for? I switched dentists after this and won't go back to any Gentle Dental if I can help it. My new dentist also ended up finishing the last 3 cavities Gentle Dental said I had, but it was really only one cavity that needed filling according to my new dentist. He didn't see the other two cavities Gentle Dental said that I had. Weird. I pay my debts in full and on time. I would stay away unless you want to end up with unexpected work done, or a bill from them months after you've already paid in full. read more

Incredibly disappointed with the Gentle Dental Progress Ridge location. I'll prequalify by acknowledging my opinion of Dr. Greenstein. He had always been compassionate & caring, as a dentist - which is what kept our family seeing him routinely. However, like MANY of the other YELP reviews - to say that the customer service and staff interaction is lacking, is truly an understatement. My son had an appointment [cleaning + check-up] scheduled while in town on a reprieve from his laborious PhD schedule. He booked the appointment three months ago, knowing that he had only a limited time in Portland. But today, three days before his scheduled appt., he received a call that his appointment was being cancelled given the Dr wouldn't be in the office. REALLY? The staff just found out that Dr. Greenstein would be on vacation(?)! Sherry [staff member] was eager to suggest that I "could make an appointment with another dentist, somewhere else." Thanks Sherry, your permission granted is great but the likelihood of getting established with a new dentist and acquiring an appt in three days, before my son departs is slim. Our family will NEVER visit the Gentle Dental office in Progress Ridge! read more

I said yes, and then when I showed up they said the appointment was actually at 1 and they couldn't take me. I had the time written down, and they were very rude. Won't be back. read more

Dr.Greenstein has been a great dentist but after 4years of dealing with the scheduling and billing issues, my husband and I are DONE with this office. The latest issue was we had text message confirmation appointments (mind you we made these appointments 6mo in advance because we needed a Saturday appointment at a particular time) we show up for our appointments only to be told we "were not on the schedule at all" We also have been billed for services that were never done by the hygienist. Having had several bad experiences in my childhood and adulthood, I went through a long span where I just didn't go. Then I chipped a back molar. I could feel it cutting into my tongue, and needed help. My family mostly uses sedation dentistry, but I knew Gentle Dental is about as close as you can get. I called, and got in same day, and had a large filling to fix the area. They made it painless, and eased my fears, and above all, did not talk down to me for avoiding the dentist. Two years later, I am visiting them every 6 months, and enjoy my visits. They are always ON TIME, don't keep you waiting, are fast and efficient once you're in the chair, and work on getting you out of there. Great staff, they give you pricing up front for procedures you need done, and are wonderful for scheduling. I would highly recommend. read more

My family and I have been patients here for 6 years. Great professional staff but recent changes to the front desk have seriously impacted my experience of going to the dentist. As a first point of contact, the new receptionist is not really reflecting the friendliness and helpfulness of the rest of the staff and can leave a bad first impression with new / potential patients about the rest of the practice. read more

First of all, we have had good experiences with the dentists and hygienists. These are my big issues: my appointment was rescheduled twice due to scheduling errors on the office's behalf. They informed me of the fact that no hygienist was available after I made work arrangements and had to put off cleanings for over a month. I am already nervous about the dentist and this made it much worse. They would not do anything to make up for my stress and how I had to keep rescheduling work priorities for appointments they kept changing. One appointment wasn't even at the right clinic. I do not recommend gentle dental to others. read more

I've been going to gentle dental for nearly two years now and I have nothing bad to say about them. Never had a problem with their staff or their service. I'm currently receiving my braces care through them and it's been amazing. They have taken all precautions during Covid. They are all so nice and kind when I go in for my visits. read more

I had to switch dentists due to a change in insurance and was a little nervous. I scheduled with this Gentle Dental because it's close to my house and I saw good reviews, and boy am I glad I did!! I had a wonderful experience from the moment I walked in. The gal at the front desk was super nice, then the sweet lady who took my x rays, followed by the awesome and friendly doctor for my exam. I had a cleaning after that and the hygienist was incredibly kind too! The view out the windows is also a very nice touch. When I got home my husband said "wow I'm surprised you're in such a good mood after the dentist!" Haha! Highly recommend this place. read more

Wish I could give them zero stars. There have been numerous issues around my billing (which honestly I can understand) however, after several calls to get it worked out with them and my insurance provider , with the insurance provider agreeing to pay what Gentle Dental billed. Where the complete lack of service has come , is how Gentle Dental has handled it. I have called now 3 times to check the status of my reimbursement, leaving messages for the office manager. She has not been able to return my calls and the receptionist is unable to pull up any info on my account to provide details of my refund. Very frustrating. read more

The services were great. The lady in the front desk was very accommodating and acted quickly. She has a positive attitude and very alert. She was very helpful on the phone and in person.The young friendly dental hygiene lady that grew up in Portland also did a great job.The doctor at this gentle dental like usual are honest. My only comment is that the walls, design, and lighting here need improvement to make the office even more comfortable. The office is clean though. Overall I highly recommended Tigard office over Sherwood for more relaxing environment and I don't have to deal with moody dental assistants. read more

This included my daughter walking OUT of her cleaning and the response from the receptionist was "I understand" on why I was not ever retuning. An apology and "is there anything we can do to try to make things right" would have gone a lot further with me. read more

I mean it's a dentist's office- what do you expect? Not my favorite place to be, but they try to make it painless. People were friendly but not over the top. My only complaint was it took a while. I got there at 1pm for a 1:15 appointment, and I didn't get out until about 3. It was my first time so we had to do x-rays, but it sure felt like forever. Avoid this dental office! Dylan at the front desk is super rude, lacks customer service and is really disrespectful at my visits and with phone calls. Ive been going to this place for a year and always just dealt with her rudeness, since ladies in the back for my cleaning were awesome. This gental dental and the Tigard location both messed up my billing. They claimed my visits were covered, but failed to check with my insurance company about dates and coverage PRIOR to my visit. They did send claims or verify anything till after the work was done, therefore getting denied for some procedures. I had to come up with $300+ for one visit that my insurance said could've easily been avoided had Gental Dental verified the 1 year hold with them for major procedures. A second incident was when Gental Dental Progress Ridge told me I needed a cleaning ASAP and failed to check if the Exam part would be covered by insurance. Now they expect me to pay $47, which according to my insurance would have been covered if I had waited 30 days later for the coverage to start over. I asked gental dental if I needed the exam while doing the cleaning why didn't they just wait a month for the next cleaning. They just said it's not our fault. All while my insurance is saying all they needed to do was call to verify with them. I'll definitely never go back to a Gental Dental. read more

My experience here was very positive. The dentist and staff were great, except for the rude receptionist who made me feel very unwelcome.

I should preface my review with saying how horrified I am of going to the dentist and have been since I was a child. I literally begin to have a melt down as soon as I'm sat in the chair, I even have to use nitrous for a cleaning! Thankfully, the staff are incredibly kind and understanding. They are always genuinely concerned with how I am doing and try to put me at ease. I have had a lot of work done this year, including an implant and they are always wonderful to work with. My only complaint is sometimes it's difficult to schedule to see a specialist, since they are not there every day of the week and I have a very full personal schedule. I would definitely recommend coming here, especially if you are a big baby like me. They'll take good care of you! read more

I get anxious at the thought of drilled holes, probes and poking. I get worried about the bill. Yet, since I started getting dentistry at this office I have completely lost my fears. All staff listen to me and tell me what they are going to do ahead of time and how much it costs. They remember my name. They ask me if I'm okay and use understanding voices and (shock) abundant humor. In short, everyone that works at this clinic is a happy, sparkling, skilled professional. Dr Greenstein is willing to answer questions and always asks if I have any more. He just replaced a crown that fell out and I didn't even need my anti-anxiety pill. I will never recommend this place to anyone. The Progress Ridge Gentle Dental has messed up on my billing that took almost a year to fix, they set up appointments for me at the wrong Gentle Dental place (example in Sherwood) and the icing on the cake was when I went into the office on 2/10/18 to ask to schedule an ortho appointment the front desk lady said " I do not know how to do it". I asked well can you ask someone she said I will have to wait till Monday. I have asked this office to record there calls due to wrong information that they have provided me in the past. They do not record calls and never take ownership when they make an error on billing or setting up wrong appointments. read more

I have been a patient here for a few years now. I am always treated with kindness and listened to!! Recently I had a bone graft done but something wasn't right. I had severe pain and started running a temp. Dr. Greenstein was able to see me on a Sat when my surgeon was out of the office for 4 days!! He was so gracious and understanding and my visit was done as a courtesy visit!! He gave me an antibiotic and within a day and a half I was on the mend!! He is an amazing dentist and a kind human being! He has been my dentist since my first visit and I hope he never leaves!! I came from a very bad experience in another office and the Progress Ridge office was asked to be the "fixers". Dr. Greenstein has been so gracious in understanding what I have been dealing with and never made me feel like a burden. I really appreciate his time and effort to fitting me in to his schedule to accommodate my work schedule. After all of his efforts, it was determined that I would need a root canal. I was NOT looking forward to this as I am already very anxious at the dentist. Dr. Reese was excellent in treating me as well. He and his assistant explained the process to me, answered my questions and was truthful about the expected outcome. One day out from the procedure, I am optimistic that this pain/issue has been resolved.
