Wonderful weather today for a family hike! Several stops along the way. We camped on Silver Lake and did a family day trip. Other areas to check out on the way up.
1. Hoffstadt Bluff..bathrooms, restaurant, gift shop, and great photos of the mountain. (free)
2. Forest Learning Center...kids (volcano slide) outdoor toys, outdoor eating tables. The main center was closed until May but did have bathrooms, a gift shop with some snacks and Elk viewing walk...but the view is stunning. (free)
3. Coldwater Recreation Area... You can walk down to the lake view area and also has a boat launch.
4. Science Learning Center (the main place we stayed the longest) is clean and has bathrooms. It has a short 16 minute video about the eruption of the mountain, gift shop, telescope and the staff were very nice. You can walk around the outside of the building to get amazing view of the mountain. Also a small little trail to the right of the building. The loop is good for small kids but wouldn't advise for wheelchairs. The little trail loop has beautiful views of the valley and mountain.
Johnson Ridge was our destination but had a gate about 6 miles before the entrance.
***Just a heads up they have dial up @ the Science Learning Center and while waiting in line several people were having issues.....so bring cash $$$ read more
