Beaver Falls - Standing underneath Beaver Falls is a Must-Do!

What a wonderful under the radar waterfall this is...Beaver Falls!…read more Located 6 miles east of Clatskanie, Oregon, this area near the Columbia River is beautiful. Let's get straight to the heart of what Beaver Falls is all about... If you plug "Beaver Falls Trailhead" into Google Maps, you'll have no problem finding it. Then just park along the side of Highway 30 and hike 1/3rd of a mile through the forest to the base of the falls. It's that easy. When I visited on a Thursday in early afternoon of July, there was hardly anyone around which was good for taking quality photos. Best of all, you can swim in the waters. So definitely bring a bathing suit, towel and a pair of water shoes so the rocks won't hurt your feet while entering the pool beneath Beaver Falls. The water is cold but once you jump in and get comfortable, it's a terrific setting. There's also a long rope where you can swing across and splash down below. It's great for kids (and adults too, lol) to have playful times. For me, I was content soaking in the pool and appreciating the surroundings. More info... - It's free to visit. - Cell phone reception works fine. - You can walk underneath the falls! This is a Must-Do. You can capture some amazing moments standing beside Beaver Falls. It's not hard or dangerous and offers a unique perspective. - Beaver Falls is just one of many outstanding waterfalls situated around Oregon and especially near the Columbia River. There's also Lower Lewis River Falls, Panther Creek Falls and Spirit Falls, to name a few. - You can spend a few hours hanging out or as little as 30 - 40 minutes. It depends on your time horizon. But overall, it's really pleasant to be here that I'd suggest bringing snacks, lunch and maybe having a picnic. This Beaver Falls is absolutely so much fun to hang out at. When you can swim in the waters, swing from a rope and even walk underneath the falls, It makes for a worthwhile summer visit.

Mayfield Lake Park Review…read more We absolutely love Mayfield Lake Park and spend many weekends here during the summer camping in our little tent and chasing muskies. The staff is always friendly, professional, and hardworking, and they truly go above and beyond to make every visit enjoyable. The park is always spotless -- from the campsites to the bathrooms and park areas -- and you can tell the staff takes pride in keeping it that way. On this trip, we came across an injured feral cat near our site. Skyler responded immediately and professionally, setting a trap to help the cat. My son was able to safely get the cat into the cage, and the staff took it to an animal sanctuary. We were so impressed by how quickly and compassionately they handled the situation. Another example of their dedication happened when we accidentally left soap in the shower the night before. Ben was quick to check if it had been found (unfortunately, someone had walked off with my husband's men's Dove soap), but we appreciated his effort and quick response. We drive an hour and a half from our home to spend time at this beautiful lake, and it's always worth the trip. The staff truly deserve recognition for their dedication, hard work, and kindness. Mayfield Lake Park will always be one of our favorite places to relax, fish, and enjoy nature.

August 19-22, 2025 - Toledo, WA…read more We really enjoyed our stay at Lewis and Clark State Park. We camped on the forest side (east side), not the equestrian side. The park is divided into two sections: The forest side is where you'll find most of the standard tent/RV sites (no hookups), the group camp, kitchen shelters, and a large day-use meadow, and the equestrian side (west side), across the road, is set up for horse campers. It has full hookup sites, corrals, and direct access to horse trails, but it's more of a parking-lot style layout. Although the website notes "25 tent spaces" as first-come, first-served, we were able to make reservations months in advance for our 27' Class A motorhome. Arrival & Campsite Check-in is at 2:30 p.m. A ranger welcomed us as we unhooked our tow vehicle, and later stopped by our site with a park map and helpful information. Each site comes with a picnic table and fire ring. Our site was spacious, fairly level, and accommodated our rig easily. Trails & Atmosphere The park features several beautiful trails, including one that winds through an old-growth forest. Interpretive kiosks and signs throughout the park make for an interesting walk. While you'll hear some road noise from Jackson Highway, the tall trees and forest setting still create a peaceful atmosphere. Overall, this is a lovely campground if you're looking for a forest stay with trails to explore, just keep in mind it's not a silent wilderness escape due to nearby traffic.

The full hook up sites are pretty sparse near the main road and there's not a whole lot of greenery. The non-hook up sites are spacious and have picnic tables and fire rings. You can reserve your site online ahead of time.

So if you were to do a round-trip it could be up to 4 to 10. Well you walk around you'll see beautiful foliage, rivers, trees, and scary abandoned ghost town relics of buildings. There are some who criticize this nonexistent town but if you have some patience you will see a lot of the structures. Or even the foundations of them. It is very dog friendly. However there is no water for them so please bring your own. The ground is not very smooth so be careful of their paws. There are no garbage cans so pack it out. We drove over a one lane bridge and then parked on the side where we saw other cars. Once we got out the car we couldn't tell where the actual hike started. Then we see a small sign that says it's north over the bridge. The one lane bridge? Yes. Yes this bridge. So off we go to walk across this high bridge with two dogs, also my youngest dog is a nut ball. Cars are driving past us but they're going slowly and we're staying all the way to the side. Once you cross the bridge there's a metal guardrail that you cross over. Then the trippy part starts. The actual hike is starts below the bridge. There's these crazy stones that I know they want to say are rock stairs but they are not. They are instead pieces of Earth that love to trip me. There is a metal guardrail to grab onto for balance and honestly there was a time when it held my entire body weight. And we have dogs on a leash to take down with us! What an adventure! I go down and have to convince the bestie to follow. She's convinced this is a bad idea now lol. It's not though, we toggle down and come to a nice hiking trail. We took a left and hiked for four miles before we turned around. I believe there's a town to hike to but we never found it. Sometimes the trail was too narrow and to high for my tastes but courage prevailed! It was all so beautiful! The trees, the water, the sky. I would go again...
