Beautiful setting but folks that run the park inconsiderate. They run frontloaders with gravel at 7 am in the morning, followed by a large mower at 8am. So much for a peaceful morning. Check in person made a racist comment. Would not stay again. read more

We loved it but the ADA is not as accessible. There isn't any where along the lake for a person in a wheelchair to fish or even really get to the lake. The bathrooms are not ADA either. Looks like the checked a few of the ADA boxes by making a few spots as ADA which is nice. Spots where nice though and enjoyed the milkshakes enormously. So as a place to camp yes I will keep coming back But there needs to be more lake shore available for those who don't have boats or are disabled and want to visit the shoreline read more

We have stayed here twice. The first time was wonderful (June 1, 2018). We stayed in the main campground. Tall cedars, quiet, a big pull thru for our 36' RV towing a Subaru. We have a hot spot and WiFi was marginal but usable. It was a great site, the dogs loved the area for walks, and the loop was easy to get in and out of. No complaints at all, we will make sure we stay in the main campground from now on. We had wondered about bringing our sailboat but after scoping out the steep boat dock and lack of floating docks for trimming sails etc. We decided not to bring a sailboat. Lots of folks were using power boats and the lake is huge. The second time we stayed, June 10, 2018 we stayed in the Cascade loop. We had another pull thru site, but is was a very short loop and a tight curve so we had real problems getting the RV and Subaru in the space. There was NO shade, and it was hot. However, WiFi for our hot spot was wonderful. Same great walks for the dogs and we did have our bikes. But we will stick with the main campground from now on. Overall the park is nice, big trees, well maintained green lawns, big lake, play area, lots of room for walking and riding bikes. read more

Gorgeous campground. View is great. Nice lake to do almost everything. Amazing staff and Campsites are great with generous parking. There's plenty of space for everyone. Drawback is one of the campers had a very noisy generator. There are also mosquitoes so bring insect repellent or you're dinner. read more

Just came back from tent camping on the weekend. This is our second time camping here and it was great. While the lake level is low you can still launch a boat. If you are camping on the main loop you can leave the boat at the edge of the lake and just walk up to the tent. Everything is clean and the park is well kept. Will be going again in the future. This is now one of our favorite campground. There is a large area for the kids to play and all the campers were having a good time. Plan ahead as the campground get full for the summer. I will say reserve a site by January. read more

I'm on the fence about this park. We didn't have the greatest experience, but at the same time there were many nice things about the park. We went here for the first time the last week of August. Having read the great reviews, I expected something a little different, I guess. We were tent camping with my parents who have a large motorhome. Having seen pictures of the full service, spacious full-thru spots on the web, I didn't hesitate to book a pull-thru spot for all of us. We reserved spot 170 in the Birds Eye loop because the other loops with pull-thrus were full. BE WARNED - the "pull thru" spots facing the lake (the ones with the views) in the Birds Eye Loop are TINY! To call 168 - 174 pull-thru sites is a joke. They were so small, my parents had trouble pulling in when the adjacent sites were occupied. They also don't tell you anywhere that these same sites are on a incline. Other than the parking pad, there is no flat surface anywhere. We couldn't set up a tent at all and ended up sleeping in the RV. You are also cooking, sitting at the campfire and doing everything else on a slope. Now, that said, the views from 170 and 172 are gorgeous! If you plan to park in an RV and don't mind the rest the site being on a slope, 170 is lovely - very quite and scenic. Other things to note - this park is very spread out. If you are staying anywhere but the Main Loop or Cascade Loop, plan for a long walk to the beach and store and bike track. If you are staying in Bird's Eye Loop, plan to drive everywhere as the hill is steep, the road narrow and there isn't a safe walking or biking path down the rest of the park. This is an ideal park for boating, but tent camping with kids, not so much. I'll pass. The park facilities were very clean and the staff was reasonably nice (I find State Park staff friendlier and more helpful though). read more

I would say I am on the fence about this park but I just can't. The group camping looked nice and there is a large field for day use. However, the biggest area of concern was the lack of park security. Although they would drive around regularly, they failed to extinguish the blatantly obvious fire in one of the campsites regardless of the Statewide fire ban. In addition, there was in small site with 4 tents in it who played their music and smoked marijuana until at least 1am. I say at least 1 am because this is the time we packed up our site and drove the three hours home. Aside from that, the staff were not helpful when we asked to change sites. They said the campground was full when it was not. The lake is beautiful and refreshing, once you get past the extremely slipper mud that sucks your legs into it, thereby making it almost impossible to pull yourself free. I suggest you go elsewhere. read more

This is an awesome park run by Tacoma Public Utilities! The sites are very spacious and well laid out. We stayed in two different sites, both in the main campground. Very different from each other, but great with views of Riffe lake. This is a family friendly park with many children playing/riding around the park. There are a couple nice playgrounds to choose from in the different camping areas. Right near the concessions stand/store is a large beach/swimming area and a large playground. I can't wait to go back! read more

We have been going here for yrs. Very clean, beautiful surroundings, affordable. This year we rented 6 sites for all of our family to come. We had over 40 people stay 3 nights and more come up for the day. They had a sheriff patrolling at night. He was super nice and came to visit our camp 2 nights in a row and brought all 20 of our kids glow necklaces. My only complaints are: there is no water spout near the camp sites (Smores loop) and the night guy who cleans come over and complained that we were to loud. We had 24 people around the fire and that was in the middle of our 6 sites. No neighbors complained and the sheriff was with us having a good time. Meanwhile other campsites were still up also and 1 was lighting off fireworks. We will be back next summer but will rent out the entire section with 5 more families. read more

This is a great park. They've got a good variety of sites, both on the water and off, with utilities and without. It's spread out along the southern shore of Riffe lake, with a camp store/"cafe" and large day-use area toward the eastern end of things. There are, to my understanding, two boat launch areas. the one near the entrance (west end) doesn't have any parking nearby, but the one at the east end has plenty. There are several group sites and a couple large picnic shelter/cook houses. A large grass y area is good for any number of activities, and there is a nice large sheltered swim area and three or four play structures around the area for the little ones. The campground itself is largely open and grassy with plenty of large, mature deciduous and coniferous trees. Some sites are almost full shade and have little grass, while a few also have nearly full sun and plenty of grass. Most of them fall somewhere in between. I have read comments about rude employees, but I never experience that. I didn't see them as being overly efficient or customer-oriented, but neither they seem rude nor negligent. I did think the people running the camp store/ cafe seemed a bit indifferent at times. I had the distinct impression they really weren't interested in serving me espresso or breakfast, instead trying to steer me toward lunch and drip coffee even though we were well within their breakfast timeframe. the woman whom I took to be in charge noticed my 10 yo daughter playing with my wife's iPhone and couldn't help but comment.. (How old are you? TEN?? AND YOU HAVE A SMARTPHONE?? ). She seemed like one of those people who had an opinion and thought you needed to know about. Didn't seem to think about the fact that she had a business to run and should be cognizant of how her comments might come across but, hey, maybe that's just me. Over all, the place seemed to be run pretty well. Also, the local sheriff makes a good, pleasant presence known. He walks around, talks to people and keeps an eye on things. This can be a busy park, so it's nice to have that level of presence to keep things on an even keel. We stayed here 7/17-7/20/14. We've been here a few times over several years, and we always look forward to coming back. read more

What a disappointment! Here on group site G8 with family and friends hoping for a nice 3 day week end and it has not been enjoyable! First the large group site has been rented to a group of 29 and a group of about 15 or so. There are 9 of us in our group with 2 young children. There has to be about 50 cars parked wily nilly in the area. People constantly slamming hatches on SUV's making an awful noise all day and all night. No attention to the quiet hours of 10pm-8pm. So loud at 1:00am they woke everyone up including the children causing one of the children to start screaming in terror! Sheriff came thru and spoke to one fellow driving some sort of loud two wheeled vehicle that sounded like a chain saw, at 1:00am!! Another complaint is that people have tents parked all over the grassy area even in the horse shoes area! If you want to pitch horse shoes don't come here. We have also been assaulted by the smell of pot constantly being smoked in public with children running around. Sheriff was told but did nothing about it even though he said that it was not legal to be doing so! On another note the restrooms are not large enough to accommodate this large if a crowd. Ladies restroom has four toilet stall and only two showers! For nearly 50 people. The entire site is composed of some small gravel and dirt! So we are all covered with brown dust. From the group area there is a path down to the lake. It is narrow, very awkward is places, rocky and steep in some places. And no handrail, nor a path available for the disabled! We will never return and would not encourage others to come here. read more

This is a great campground run by Tacoma Public Utilities as part of the Cowlitz River Project. We stayed in the main campground and found that the views of Riffe lake were fantastic from our site. There are only partial hook ups at this campground so visiting the showers was necessary and they were spotless the both times I used them. There is a store/cafe near the beach which carries most of the items you might run out of or maybe forget and the Riffe burger basket isn't half bad. The only criticism is that we would have loved to have stayed an extra day except for the policy of apparently allowing people to rent a camp site to park their boat and tow vehicle while camping with friends at another site effectively locking someone out of actually using the spot for its intended purpose of camping. We never saw this at Alder Lake Park but we saw it here and it was disappointing to see it allowed. read more

The NW has many lovely wooded camp grounds. This is not one of them. It has some nice sites but many are a marked space and a table in an asphalt parking lot. Truly. They clearcut the forest, paved it, and marked off sites. Bathrooms are very scarce and no water faucets near most sites. Good place if your priority is putting your boat in the lake. Not for tent camping. read more

A very nice place with a beautiful view. Its heavenly.The park is so big as well with some play areas for kids throughout the park. It has a hiking trail, a beautiful lake, covered picnic area,and many camping spots . You can camp near the lake or higher up in the more wooded area where I prefer. It also has a store open in the summer with a good amount of items. read more

I'm on the fence, the first 3 days we have been the sole campers in smores loop which has been amazing!!! Yeah! The site we are in 152 is set up on a hill that you drive across the grass to get to and under huge shade trees. Beautiful!!! Until others have come in, the sites are so close together that now that our "neighbors" have come in at 11:30 to set up camp and are screaming, giggling and being obnoxious it's quiet annoying. We have 2 small kids who are trying to sleep, and the f bombs being thrown around next door are irritating to see the least, I think the biggest annoyance are all the dogs, we have had people next to us in camp for less than 3 hours and there has already been a dog get loose and go after 2 other little dogs. We camped over the 4th so as expected it was quiet rambunctious, the park does not enforce any sort off quiet time hours so people were partying it up all hours of the night. The rvs down the loop played techno music really loud and were doing drugs into the early morning hours. I would go back but I would probably stay in one of the upper loops, not on a holiday and during the week. read more

I'll start out by saying i loved the place clean camp grounds and bathrooms beautiful scenery, amazing lake! However until you run in to the staff! Half the time they have no idea what they are doing, misplacing camp registrations papers and cant find anything. However thats just a tip of the iceberg the camp ground host and its workers will harass you and make you feel as if its you're fault when their staff screws up big time they will make you leave in 10 minutes at 4 am just because they are having a crappy day. I have experienced this first hand we were practically assaulted by their night crew for no good reason at 4 am saying that we have to go to sleep and that we have no right to stay up next to the fire pit on our rented property, they will use harsh degrading and offensive words agains you're loved ones and yourself, we had friends fly in from another country 7thousand miles away just to be called a bitch for taking her time at the bathroom by their night staff! Upon their arrival the management, didn't even want to hear that their staff almost assaulted us and instead of resolving it all they said is to pack our shit and leave with out giving us proper credentials on who they are didn't carry any kind of ID just said they are security would not release any names kept on threatening to call the sheriffs department charge us with trespassing if we didn't comply at 4am if that happens to you let them call the sheriff they will be the only polite people there who respect you're boundaries and are actually to help. Also if you're a Subaru lover stay away don't even bother taking the car there you will get harassed every time you get into you're car, from speeding to having a loud car and waking up people with you're headlights, they will stereotype you and harass you from just driving a sti. When there is diesel trucks dropping off boats at 4 am in to the water. Only time the staff started to comply is in the morning when we went to file a police report thats when they started to apologize to us 4 hours later after kicking us out at 8 am and packing all of our belongings from 4am. If anything like that happens to you just call the sheriff yourself, they will square our everything quickly peacefully. read more
