Very nice, well-maintained, well-used park. Nice wide trails wander through interesting areas. A zillion different kinds of birds happily inhabit the large and varied habitat. Comparatively few invasive plants and a plethora of ones I haven't seen in other areas, even other "wild" Metro Parks. Good picnic spots, clean bathrooms, and a very pretty event space. They have a really neat slide structure where you climb cargo nets to get up a really tall slide. Bathrooms here are super clean too. Only downside is the top deck of the fire tower has been looked for several days, but we got up as high as possible on the stairs at least. read more

Another wonderful metro park outing! We are so lucky to have these lovely parks to escape to and enjoy the outdoors. There are several different parking areas, all of which have a trail map you can consult to get your bearings. Dogs, kids and adults were all having a great time. There are a couple of playground areas, several areas with picnic tables, overlook decks to see the Scioto River, archery area, frisbee golf, and a cool looking "lodge" building. None of the trails are too log or very difficult, but they take you through woods, open areas, and right along the river. I did not see the fishing pond, but apparently they have one. Definitely worth a trip. read more

This is a nice park for anyone that likes to bike, cookout and camp. It's clean and easy to get around. Plenty of shade for the hot summer.

I love exploring the metro parks in Columbus. During the pandemic, I've been checking out a new one every week. Scioto Grove was the most recent and easily made its way to the top of my growing list of places to continue visiting well beyond stay-at-home orders. For starters, Google Maps took me straight there and I appreciated the signage that took me swiftly to the super clean and well lit parking lot. It was a cloudy day and while the street lights weren't needed, I noticed them. You don't always find those at parks, so extra points right there in my book. When you first jump on the trail, you might be a little bored. Paving leads you along some overgrown grass and you're wide in the open. However, it doesn't take long before you're strolling through Ohio's version of Fern Gully. The path turns from paving, to rocks, and eventually to dirt and mud. This is the fun part! Overhead you're completely covered by tall trees and the Scioto river runs right alongside you. They even have a few picnic areas with covering and seating. Whether you need a break from your hike or simply want to enjoy a bite to eat in some peace and quiet, it's a nice touch. I'm not sure whether it was just the time of day I went or what, but I noticed this park wasn't as heavily populated as the others I've been to recently. In my eyes, this was an added bonus. Can't wait to return! read more

Lots of trails (most unpaved) Waaa I didn't bring my hiking shoes and the unpaved trails were muddy. But we walked 4.4 miles irregardless. Lots of amenities such as disc golf, archery, canoeing, fishing etc. Clean bathrooms. Felt safe due patrolling rangers. read more

Great park for some hiking. I wish they would get some Boy Scout troops or some volunteers to clean up the trash in the river, but I suppose that might be a full time job. read more

This is a nice place to go for a walk or run or bring your dog. All of the trails are connect and it runs next to the river. There a lot of picnic tables if you want to have a lunch or dinner picnic. Bring bug spray since there is a lot of tall grass near the trails. read more

The Scioto Grove Metro Park had its offical grand opening this morning and the park is awesome!! There are lots of hiking trails, canoe & kayak launches, backpacking sites, and so much more that can be found in its grasslands, prairies, rivers and forests. And as a bonus it is dog friendly!! Also, REI has partnered with the Metro Parks on their 'REI River Trail' which is 1.2 miles. They are planning on building multi-purpose building later this year. read more

I love this newer addition to the Metro Parks! Scioto Grove is located south of town near Grove City, but is a pretty quick drive from the downtown area. A few key things they have here: nice playground and picnic areas, several trails that run along the river for an ice view, and a few camp sites that you can rent through the park office. REI sponsored a trail and the campsite spots here. The REI trail is probably my favorite, as it goes along the river and then through a Meadow. There are several spots with views of the river as well as some wildlife (such as deer) in the Meadow! For anyone interested in the campsites, there are a few of them and they all have a designated spot to pitch a tent as well as a fire pit and cooking area. Being just a few miles from downtown, this would be a neat place to feel like you're away for the night! When the park first opened there was some flooding from the river that often blocked off a large portion of the REI trail, but they have since built a nice bridge to cross over when the water level is high. I definitely recommend to check out this cool park! read more

We love this metro park. It's close to our house, and it has spectacular scenery, great trails, quiet picnic areas, an archery range, fishing, and super nice playgrounds. We've been twice, and we still have so much to explore. They allows dogs on leash, so we've brought ours each time, and they love it. The also have dog bags for clean up along some of the trails, which I think is great. :) We were just out there last weekend, and got some nice pics of our walk. I recommend a trip to see all this metro park has to offer. read more

This park is still in progress as of May 2017 but man, it's beautiful! It's great for all ages from toddling toddlers to those able to climb small hills. You can take a path along meadows or along the river. We enjoyed the Overlook Trail the most as it had some meadows, overlook of the river and we passed a backpack site. The playground is not for little ones or those scared of heights but if you have kids who like to climb nets and rope, they'll love it! They also have a swing for those older kids who may need assistance and they have a disc swing. Check this out! read more

Wanting to check out this newest metro park in Columbus, I met a friend for a Saturday morning walk. From satellite, this newest metro park looked like a lot of open land, not many shaded areas, so I was definitely curious to check it out. There is a nice big rectangularish walking path that runs the outskirts of the park's boundaries; there are several shorter trails that intertwine and connect to the larger distance ones. There are a few different parking lots, one of which has two outhouse restrooms. A few playgrounds spread out that had shelters are picnicking. Easily accessible via route 104. read more

I went to the park to play disc golf. They have 18 hole course, easy to find first tee, very good signage. Course it self has technical holes and wide open grip it and rip it. It does lack some directional signage to find the basket on hole 11,12, and 13 ( which I missed). Water hazard on hole four (pond) holes 17 and 18 if it's during the rainy with have marsh and mud. Several hill climbs up and down on a couple of holes. And concrete tee pads on all but one hole that i played. All in all great course I would play it again if I'm in the area. read more

Nice addition to the area as this is a great park located just south of downtown Columbus. I have not had a chance to use all the facilities yet but it is a very nice wide open area. They have fishing ponds and an archery range and tons of open space to walk with your pets if you like. I can't wait to utilize the entire facility later this year read more

This park was really nice. Decided to take a leisurely hike on the REI trail. I really enjoyed how it took you through several different areas...woods, grasslands, riverside...even though the trail isn't that long. It was nice getting to enjoy all those different perspectives. To me it seemed this park was going to be far away but it was really easy to find and get to. I would love to go back when the weather gets warmer and try the water access with my kayak. And most definitely the overnight cAmpsites look like a perfect place to try out my tent so I can figure out what stuff I'm going to forget when I actually go out into the wilderness. I liked that the park was not crowded probably best of all. Maybe it because it's so new that people are not aware of it yet. read more

We are participating in the Winter Hike Series that the Columbus Metro Parks is currently offering. They have a passport book that you can pick up at any Metro Park location from the Rangers and then when you complete a hike they stamp your book, like a true passport. We visited Scioto Grove Metro Park yesterday morning while it was 16* outside and the ground was completely covered by a beautiful blanket of snow. Even though the temps were chilly, the sun was shining bright, which made for some really beautiful views. Due to all the traffic on the trails and the shining sun it did make some of the inclines and declines slippery, almost icy. We were able to navigate without incident, but I did want to warn because the hike that we choose also had a suspended ladder that you have to cross to cross the river. It was extremely icy. You will better understand when you get there, but near the ends of the bridge I just let my feet slide and held on the the ropes on each side. It worked perfectly for me. Just be aware when you go if it is snowy and sunny. We basically had the entire trail to ourselves. That may have been due to the temp. Part of the trail is in the woods, surrounded by trees, the other portion is out in a meadow that is just a really big loop. We were able to pick up many animal tracks while in the meadow portion. We had the perfect peaceful morning. If you have not checked out Scioto Grove Metro Park I'm letting you know that it is totally worthwhile, and maybe while you are there you pick up your Winter Hikes passport. read more

I love the Metro Parks, and have made it a point to visit as many as possible. Of the eight I have experienced so far, Scioto Grove is unfortunately at the bottom. The problem with Scioto Grove is that despite its nice riverside location, and the abundance of greenery etc., much of the park seems to be built on garbage. No, seriously, walking off the path near the river, it seems as though the area itself was either a landfill at one point, or some of the foundation brought in to bolster the banks and reinvigorate the area contained dirt from a dump. Old, flattened pop cans, decrepit plastic bags, ancient candy wrappers and many other bits of detritus peek out of the mud and dirt alongside the river, which is truly quite sad -- the river itself and the trails are pretty, but the bits of garbage are not simply isolated, but are evident along the entire riverbank. All of the Metro Parks have been valuable additions to Columbus -- essential, really, for anyone who enjoys a light hike without driving too far out of town. But Scioto Grove needs a serious cleanup along its riverbank for it to match the quality of the others I have seen thus far. read more

There have been some wonderful additions to the park since it was initially opened to the public. The multipurpose trail is a nicely paved two mile path that winds throughout the park. It is pet friendly and makes a great place for skating, biking, and the like. Another neat experience is hiking across the suspension bridge that is now part of the REI River Trail. The bridge is fun to cross and takes you over Grant Run, and it has a nice view of the area, which includes the nearby river and the forest. Two great new options to add to your to-do list! read more

This was a fantastic park that we looked up online for our trip to Columbus. A very unique playground area with an awesone rope climby thingy was the first thing that caught my eye. Despite my status as a foodie and fat guy I scaled around that thing (my wife was much more nimble). There are lots of trails both paved and not although even the non paved hiking trails were not rugged and could be done by most people. There are some great views of the nearby river for which the park is named as well as a couple of spots to play on the river bank. The other parts of the trails we did (we did the long Mingo Trail and the much shorter Overlook trails on this occasion) were mostly grassland. Also here was an archery range which was probably a lot more extensive than I realize as well as a drone flying area. Lot's of camping and backpacking spots as well. All in all we spent about 4 hours total here today and I feel like we barely scratched the surface of this park. We'll be back. read more

I've been to this park several times and I love it. The REI trail offers a nice hike along the Scioto River with gorgeous views. We also tried the trail around the pond, but there's only a small part of the trail that comes close to the pond. If you want to walk by the water, the REI trail is the way to go. We've also tried the playground, and while it's a nice playground, it's not for everyone. The climbing apparatus is not for the young, or the faint of heart. I'd be surprised if someone hasn't fallen off of it and broken a bone yet. Also, while we were there this weekend, there was some chick in a very skimpy latex "outfit" posing for professional photos along the REI trail. Ordinarily I wouldn't care, but I had 2 younger kids with me and there were lots of other kids on the trail that day as well. Definitely did not expect to see that sort of wildlife in the woods! read more

As one of the newest parks to the Columbus Metroparks system it is very very nice,I think it's awesome that REI in conjunction with the Metroparks put in a backpacking trail and there are six places that you can backpack to and spend the night and reservations can be made starting in April. The main trail is paved which is nice and views of the river really spectacular read more

Scioto Grove is an excellent addition to the Metro Park system and a testament to the vision and planning of its leadership. The trail along the river in particular stands out as an excellent place to walk. It is well marked and the scenery is great, although it can get very muddy in places. But what do you expect, it's right next to the river. But it's worth risking the mud, as the heavy tree cover means that it's a wonderfully shaded trail. Many of the other trails are much more exposed and lack the riverside tree cover. There's a lot of acerage here, and I'll be curious to see what if anything happens to it now that it's part of the metro park system. The physical improvements to the park also look great. The playground structure in particular looks pretty fun, and if I had children I'm sure they'd enjoy climbing all over it. Well done Metro Parks, well done. read more

This is a great park. It has a lot of paths through wheat fields, water access, canoe access, back pack camping sites, picnic areas and a large playground. Something truly for everyone. My husband and I took the dog through the trails and it was a very easy walk and he enjoyed getting in the water. read more

In general, this is a very nice park to get away from it all. My one complaint is the playground. The only way to play on it is to climb up a series of rope-made steps that go very high and offer little support. It is very awkward and just too high/dangerous for my 4 year old. Maybe the park designers were trying to be different, but this is a fail. read more
