Dr. Scivally seems very competent. He comes across as caring and personable. He listens and goes with conservative approaches before diving right into surgery. His billing department is awful though. Just prepare to have to explain how the insurance payments and discounts work, as they will just bill you the full amount. I 100% recommend Dr. Scivally! I needed to see a foot specialist after I fractured my toe, but didn't get a referral since it was an urgent care doctor. My husband has seen Dr. Scivally several times so I knew it was a good choice. The front desk staff person was super friendly. Ever since I went to see him and got my orthotics, I have had a lot less pain in my feet and back. In fact, I don't expect to have to go back to him. Poor guy, he's so good, he loses his patients! Well, I'll make up for it by recommending him HIGHLY to all of the Yelpers out there. Yes, custom orthotics are expensive. But if you are suffering, at some point, you just give up and pay. I would say he is just okay. Not really bad, and not fantastic! My bunion repair was mediocre. He was suppose to remove an old ankle screw from a previous surgery, but would NOT at the last minute due to the fact he didn't know the proprietary screw head. I got in touch with the old Orthopedic surgeon and he wanted to speak to Dr. Scivally who refused to speak to him, that he (Dr. S) made the decision to NOT remove the screw. LAST MINUTE!! This was very disappointing to me, my big toe still pushes up against the hammer toe, and now I have pain on the ball of my foot. All this after having this procedure done in 2019. He's a nice guy, but wouldn't recommend him to anyone who's looking for a foot and ankle surgeon! Do your homework folks! read more

Dr Scivally was great. However, his front desk staff not only left a message on the wrong phone number 2 times for a follow up casting appointment, but then ~ on the day of the appointment, called to say my insurance required me to go elsewhere for casting. Due to her incompetence, I have now been waiting more than a month just to get casting done, and will have to wait longer because I have to schedule with yet another place. My insurance never changed, so she would have known this when she called back for second appointment after verifying the coverage if she had been paying any sort of attention. From my first visit to my surgery, Dr. Scivally has been great! He was able to diagnose my problem right away. He was able to provide me with all the information and knowledge I needed for my foot problem. He is kind and caring and a funny guy. He keeps a positive attitude towards everything. He recently did surgery on my foot and so far it's going good. I hope recovery goes by fast. He was able to help me get all my work forms filled out and sent off to my job so that I wouldn't have to worry about all the days I will be having to miss due to my procedure. He has 2 offices. One in Walnut creek and another one in Brentwood . He is flexible when it comes to having to schedule appointments. His staff is very nice at the Brentwood office. Staff at the walnut creek office might need just a little help on being a bit more friendlier. I didn't experience a problem personally but one of the girls gave my mom a hard time when she needed paperwork for my job. Other than that, the offices are both clean and welcoming . I would definitely recommend Dr. Scivally to anyone who needs a foot doctor. I will definitely be returning for any of my foot problems with Dr. Scivally. read more

I went to see Dr. Scivally last Thursday. He gave me a cortisone shot on my left heel. I have plantar fasciitis for 9 mos. I tried everything and nothing works. The pains was getting worst everyday. None of the other doctors I went to see refused to give me the cortisone shot. My co-worker referred me to see him and I'm glad I did. Dr. Scivally, was the nicest human being I have ever met. He's compassionate, very kind, supportive,and he knows what he's doing. He made me feel comfortable and he listens to me. I highly recommend Dr. Scivally to anyone. My foot feels a little better. I saw Dr Scivally and he immediately diagnosed me with Posterior Tibial Tendonitis. No X-rays, no MRI, no b.s. He put me on an immediate plan for pain control and to get me back into an active life ASAP. John answered questions directly (even after the appointment, on his time) and followed up with cortisone injections too, which were a breeze. It's very refreshing to see a specialist that just does his thing with efficiency. He is friendly, concerned, and makes time to talk with his patients. Dr. Scivally has done three surgeries on my feet, and I couldn't be happier. In my first visit he correctly diagnosed a problem which had been missed by another doctor, enabling me to get the proper treatment. When I later needed bunion surgery I initially went to another foot doctor as Dr. Scivally was no longer taking my insurance. This new doctor told me that one foot would need to be cast and have no weight on it for 8 weeks, an impossibility for a mom of three (no driving!). In desperation I went back to Dr. Scivally for a second opinion, and he told me he could do a modified surgery which would allow me to put weight on the foot. It worked beautifully with a much quicker recovery time. I wanted him to do the surgery even though I had to pay, since my insurer did not have him as a provider. It was worth it! Another reviewer referenced his probationary status. I did see this online before my very first visit , and asked him directly about it. He answered me non-defensively and was able to explain what had happened to my satisfaction. I felt comfortable with him from the start and have had a great experience. read more

Really great staff and Dr. Scivally was very professional and knowledgeable. My feet were very sore and had calluses building up and he explained what was happening to my feet. Evidently I had been walking incorrectly and my foot was leaning in which is why I was getting calluses and experiencing pain. Run, bad feet and all as fast as you can to get away from this DPM. In 2005 I went to Scivally for what I thought would be a relatively simple bunion surgery. I now have permanent damage from his lack of skill, He put in a screw that was to long for my toe. I kept telling him I was not feeling any better after the surgery and my concerns were ignored. He never recommended physical therapy which should have been automatic. I finally went to an Orthopedic Surgeon and had to have the entire procedure redone. My new doctor was appalled at what had been done. I not only had an incorrect screw installed, I had both bone spurs and an arthritic cyst that had been ignored. This guy should have his license revoked! In additional to his incompetence in the operating room, his lack of filling out forms for my employer caused me to lose several thousand dollars in pay. I see he has been on probation before and should have been suspended. read more
