From the second that you walk up to Scooter's, you know that found something special! From the exterior the place looks modern and sleek. The interior is edgy and fashionable, with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is well lit. So, even if it's dark. You can still enjoy yourself outside. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and helpful. You couldn't ask for a better place to start off your day at. They also, have a variety of cups, coffees, and fun souvenirs to purchase. So, get ready to enjoy a delicious at home treat if you decide to get some coffee. The bathrooms are sparkling clean! Which, I appreciate. Everything in the store is immaculate. And, the drinks were incredible! The hot latte was served at the perfect temperature. My iced latte had the perfect amount of ice. My blended mocha was smooth and perfect! Every little detail was spot on. They are also passionate about what they do. So, get ready for a tasty treat. I always get the blended mocha and an iced latte. My favorite drink is the blended mocha. From the first sip to the last drip. I always savor every last sip of that delicious drink. It's creamy, chocolaty, and has a bold coffee flavor! Topped with delicious sweet whipped cream. My daughter and I always get the large iced latte with whole milk. That drink is pure perfection! We were happy to see that they now come in XL. So, if you're looking for a good place to stop in and relax. Come here!

The space itself is large and looks to be separated into two halves. I entered on the one side, ordered at the counter, just like you would at any coffee shop and waited. This place serves a full-service breakfast as well if you're looking for something more substantial (eggs, panini's, pancakes, etc..). I was just here picking up and bringing it back to our room. The coffees were fine, but there was only one gentleman working the counter, and he was a bit overwhelmed. He forewarned me that he had 4-5 drinks ahead of mine, so I ended up sitting there waiting for about 15 minutes for our two drinks. I wasn't pressed for time today, but if I was, this would've been an issue. I ordered a raspberry chocolate scone and a cinnamon roll. The scone was delicious. Not too sweet and was definitely made this morning. The cinnamon roll was delicious as well, but it was extremely sweet. To the point where it hurt your teeth. It would also have been better if it were warmed up. Lastly, they gave me this big cinnamon roll in a bag without any napkins or utensils?!? I had to stop at the free breakfast at our hotel to get a fork, knife and some napkins. So kind of a mixed-bag at the Encounter Cafe. I would give it another shot and try some other things, but it didn't blow me away.

#1 Fireplace #2 Late hours…read more#3 Tons of tables #4 Patio space - I can't wait for spring, summer and fall to get here Have been coming here in mornings for coffee on the way into work and coming back in evenings to get some work done after dinner and the gym. The late hours here makes for a great alternative to the hubbub at Java House and there's usually parking easily found here. Great coffee, Kickapoo from Wisconsin, and americanos! I've been working my way through the loose-tea menu. Earl Grey is a staple for me and the blend here has a strong flavor. The Rooibos Chai is very good and doesn't have the Rooibos after taste that my tastebuds do not like. My only recommendation would be a dish to hold the leaves after an adequate amount of steeping time. I've taken to using the to-go coffee lids to hold the mesh strainer and tea leaves. I haven't had a chance to partake in the beer and wine selection, but hope to soon. There is a quite and extensive list to choose from! Staff has always been friendly and the background music perfect in the evenings. I love that the tables are larger than the usual small cafe tables. I can have a giant textbook and a notebook spread out while working. The loveseat in front of the fireplace is popular. One of these days i'll get to enjoy with a good book and a cup of coffee.

I looked online and on Instagram for a phone number, and couldn't find one, so I couldn't call to see if they had gluten-free bread. I decided to risk it and try it out anyway, because I was exhausted and their Bread 'n Butter latte sounded like the perfect pick me up. I got there and the guy at the counter informed me that they didn't have their toast, gluten-free bread, the Bread 'n Butter latte, or a phone number! I thought about leaving right then, but I decided to try the Let's Get Figgy latte, which was decent, but not good enough to bring me back after the other disappointments. And I could have saved time if I had been able to call them to make sure they had what I was looking for!

Food/Drink: Pastry -- Cream Cheese Coffee Cake (Perfection, this sweet treat was soft, moist, and full of flavor. Rating = 9.3/10.) Drink #1 -- Hot Vanilla Latte (Delish, not a big hot drink fan but this was an exception to the rule! Rating = 8.4/10.) Drink #2 -- Iced Vanilla Latte (Wonderful, really all I could ask for out of my favorite coffee order, not to sweet and excellent espresso taste. Rating = 8.4/10.) Service: No complaints on the service. The shop wasn't too busy so our order came out as expected with little wait! Ambiance: The location is unique - located in a neighborhood amongst what appears to be primarily college housing units. The building itself is really cool - albeit, quite small - and is decorated/themed with a lot of intention. The shop has a retro vibe with a VCR tape collection, nostalgic children games, and other late '90s / early '00s antiques lining the walls. Overall, this spot is one of our favorites in the Iowa City area, and we will definitely be return customers!
