The name is based on the fact that the owner is Scotch. Not Irish and he wants that to be made clear. Lots of regulars here. The area has a large English speaking population and they seem to congregate here. The owner hangs out behind the bar drinking and chatting. He shares shots of "Baileys" with the regulars. I can't figure out why no one has noticed that although it's a Baileys bottle, the liquid being poured is the wrong color. But hey, it's free alcohol, so who cares!? The atmosphere is very nice. Three young women were taking care of the many guests. A small bar runs along the back with a skilled bartender in control. This was my first time here and I such a great time. I was so tickled by the names of the burgers... We had the "Fat Man & Big D*ck) and the burgers were massive, cooked well and very flavorful. The drinks were really good and the service was awesome. Our waiter spoke English of which I'm very thankful. We sat outside for hours laughing, eating and having drinks! I have been here at least 5 times in the last 4 years. I think I first stumbled upon it right before the whole Covid mess started. During Covid they provided excellent to go service including the option of having a beer to drink outside while you were waiting for your food to be prepared. They used to have a "spicy" pretty cat that sat at the bar. I haven't seen him/her the last few visits. I hope it's still alive and hope it's had a nail trim. I've only had their schnitzels and I keep meaning to try their fish and chips or club sandwich but I just love their schnitzel so much I can't help but order it every time. They have at least 12 different variations starting with your meat choice being pork or chicken and then all the different sauces or toppings. Standard schnitzel dinner comes with a nice side salad & fries. You have the option of upgrading your fries to mashed potatoes, baked potato, potato salad, sweet potatoes or rosti. I greatly prefer mashed potatoes with my schnitzel. Every single server I have encountered here has been professional & lovely. Dining inside on colder days is cozy. Some of the tables are a little close together though. There's also a good amount of outdoor seating available. If I had to complain about anything I would say they should restrict smokers from sitting near the front door. They might have well have been sitting inside the restaurant smoking. read more

If you are in the area, you must come to Scotch 'n' Soda it's an experience not to be missed. Gordon, the owner is so warm and personable, he's right there to welcome you the moment to walk in. I went with a group of friends who had been before, he immediately spotted me and says you are new. He came over and visited with us for at least 15 minutes, making sure all our needs were attended to. Such a great vibe inside the restaurant. I really enjoyed looking around at all the decor. We had just come from a local wine fest, so I was craving comfort food. I found a nice backed potato with a mushroom sauce and a salad. Perfect size, filled me up, but not too much. We are working on becoming regulars here mainly due to the super friendly service but also because they serve Black Dog Punk IPA on draft. We are from the Pacific Northwest in the USA and the main drink there is IPA so we immediately feel at home at the Scotch and Soda. Gordon and his staff make you feel even that much more at home. The steaks are great, fish and chips are also really good, and the famous cottage pie is nice and spicy (a bit small though so if you are really hungry this might not be the best choice). We usually split a steak and have a couple IPA's and leave happy. read more

Was a beautiful day in Wiesbaden. Enjoyed a long lunch that lasted all afternoon at Scotch and Soda. I'm not normally one to drink in the afternoon so I started off with a cola, but then I progressed to the small "baby" beers offered on the menu. Our server was Susie, who is very friendly and attentive without being invasive. We sat outside, and I never felt rushed and it was a very relaxed atmosphere. Patrons do smoke here, but it was not overpowering. Try to get a table in the shade on a sunny day though, because after some time, the sun does take it out of you. There's a lot of greatness here, but the schnitzel is the way to go. There are a bunch of different types (Pepper is awesome, Jager is great with mushrooms, whiskey is good). My wife who previously hated schnitzel is now a huge fan. Sometimes they put the gravy on it sometimes it is in a side dish, no clue as to why (I think the gravy on the side is a bit better because you can dip your fries in it. And you could probably just ask for it on the side instead of waiting to see what you'll get). Best Schnitzel I've ever had was here. The owner/bartender is a trip too. Before visiting this place, I hated schnitzel. This place has made me fall in love with schnitzel!! They have about 7 different sauces you can get on your schnitzel. Also, you have the choice between chicken or pork schnitzel!!! The sauce I got was Whiskey. The others I was here with got Jaeger sauce and the other person got Pepper sauce. Honestly, they were all delicious. The salad that comes with the meal is amazing with some kind of awesome dressing that I'm not sure what it actually is. The potatoes are amazing. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu at least not the schnitzel menu. Now don't even get me started on the owner/bartender. He was amazing and super friendly. We rolled in for a late lunch on a Sunday, and I had the curry schnitzel, because I wanted something German but with a twist and some spice. The whole dinner came out really well, but some reason I asked for mashed potatoes instead of fries, the potatoes came out but the chef took it back immediately, and I got fries instead ... hmmm weird. The schnitzel was cooked nicely, not dry and curry had a hint of spice. Beers were good, good, they have some smaller TVs to watch some footie. This is right in the center of the downtown area. Outdoor tables, weather permitting, lots of TV's showing sports. Good drinks, good food, waitstaff was nice. Seating inside was a bit tight but we made it work. We had a party of 7 and service was pretty quick. Everything we got was good and portion sizes were quite large. Bathrooms were upstairs so if you have mobility issues that may not be ideal. We even spilled a beer while we were here and it was immediately replaced without charge, no questions asked. I've been to Scotch 'n' Soda several times over the past few years and the food and service are always reliable. The staff are very friendly and due to the many English speaking guests you can always order in English. I generally order the fish n chips but have tried the burgers and the goulash is excellent. The seating can be a bit cramped inside as it is a bar, but it still manages to be cozy at the same time. Stop in with friends or family--or both--and you'll have a great time. read more

The drink menu is extensive and as the name implies there is quite a healthy selection of whiskey(4 or 5 pages to be more specific). I'll start with the front of the house. The staff and owner were extremely attentive and friendly. I ordered the redbreast 12yo and a pint of Guinness. Both were great. I also had the fish and chips. I'm originally from Ireland and although Ireland doesn't claim the rights to the dish they have a great version of it. This place didn't. I've had much better in Germany as well so it's not because it's in Germany. The mushy peas were nice. Chips were good with vinegar. But the fish wasn't crispy, somewhat soggy. And the "newspaper" it was served on couldn't stand up to the soggy fish and tore apart so easily and stuck to the fish. The major knock I have though with this place is the atmosphere the owner allows. There was one American patron that spoiled my entire time here. The foul and disgusting language that he shouted during peak dinner time was mind blowing. Talks of jerking himself off, blow jobs, people hanging themselves and holding their dicks, hitler, the list goes on and on. He was saying all this in front of the owner as well. I'm saying this in hopes that the amazing staff sees this and doesn't allow this kind of behavior in the future because it drives customers away from what could be a great establishment. read more

Great location with great internal ambience. We ordered the filets medium-rare and I live in Kansas city US where steak is a big deal...the filets here were unbelievably delicious. Perfectly cooked, great seasoning and rub put on them. We also had a creamy peppercorn sauce on the side. The grilled vegetables that came with the filet were tasty. The owner was very friendly and helpful. He recommended more than one scotch to try scotch and they were exceptional. The pub is small but popular...and has a perfect location with an awesome view of the older side of city. Went here for a pub quiz night, which was great fun, but was overshadowed by all the cigarette smoke they allowed inside. I had to leave after a subsequent asthma attack, so its unlikely that I will return. On the plus side, the food and drinks were good (but not amazing). My husband and I came here on a Sunday by accident and were not disappointed. The fish and chips arrived and it was a giant portion, you could easily share with another. They were perfectly crispy and the chips were the correct size. The service was ok, we waited quite a long time for our meal but enjoyed sitting outside in the nice summer weather.
