We had a multi-head heat pump installed by ScotiaHVAC which was paid for through the Efficiency Nova Scotia OIl to Heat Pump program and couldn't be happier with the whole process. ScotiaHVAC explained what was required for the program and helped get us set up. Then they installed all the Novair equipment in a day. We had a 200 amp electric upgrade done as well and Jeremy and his crew were wonderful. The Novair heat pumps work amazing and the heat output is better then we expected. Months Without Heat Pump Service, Zero Communication I strongly advise anyone considering this company to think twice. My heat pump -- installed by them and still fully covered under warranty -- has been broken since January 2025. Over the past several months, I have called numerous times. Each time, I've been told by Krista that "someone will call you back." Not once has anyone actually called. Two separate technicians have come out, given me two completely different explanations for the problem, and then disappeared without follow-up. No repair date, no update, no resolution. What you can expect based on my experience: No follow-through on service calls No communication after initial contact No urgency even when equipment is under warranty and completely non-functional Conflicting information from technicians, with no accountability This is not simply poor customer service -- it's a complete disregard for customers and their contractual obligations. My equipment remains broken, and I am left chasing answers that never come. Just had heat pumps installed in our house,loving it so far,nice to have nice heat,been a month so far so good

What a bunch of sucker jack cucks, left me months without heat, pricing was terrible and the customer service sucks.

Our initial experience with Scotia HVAC was great. Their sales consultant (through Home Depot) spec'd out a tri-head GE heat pump which was installed by Scotia HVAC's subcontractor Clean Coil Refrigeration (Berwick) for $16K. Clean Coil did a great job on the install and we were very happy with how the system worked for the first year. Then it stopped heating due to a leak in one of the head units. This system was under warranty for ten years and the faulty coil was replaced under warranty. The technician, Brittany (sic?) however, damaged the plastic housing for the head unit when she disassembled it to replace the coil. I believe she forgot to remove three screws that hold a metal grate (which were under the louver, so were not visible when the unit was powered down). This broke the plastic around the screws. The unit still functioned but I didn't pay for a damaged unit. When I noticed the damage I sent photos to the company requesting they repair it at their cost. They initially agreed and ordered a part. When Brittany came to replace the broken part, she disassembled the unit again (it was still working when she arrived) but told us it was damaged beyond repair and the whole head unit would have to be replaced. She shut down the whole system and we started using our old oil furnace. We assumed they were going to cover this as their technician was the only person to work on this unit since it was installed. Brittany did not mention anything to us about having to pay for any repair before she left. After three weeks without hearing from the company, I contacted them only to learn the owner was suggesting the unit was disassembled and damaged by us prior to the technician's arrival. They would replace the unit for $1482.27. This made no sense and I was, of course, angered. After some back and forth over several weeks they offered to pay for half of the head unit, which I declined as they are fully liable. Since Brittany had taken the damaged plastic housing with her when she left, I requested it to be returned. They advised it was disposed of. Again, this made no sense as you should not be taking property from a customer's home without having a clear work plan in place. I had the head unit replaced by another local company. I filed a claim for damages in the Small Claims Court of Nova Scotia, which is still pending as of this writing. After I filed the claim, the company offered to replace the plastic housing. I told them I had already replaced the entire unit and would settle the claim for their initial repair estimate of $1482.27 plus court filing costs. I have read reviews on BBB where the owner talks about his employees making mistakes and him covering it. That is clearly not the case any longer as far as I can tell. It makes no sense that I would damage my heat pump in the middle of winter when it is still under warranty for an additional 9 years. I called the "professionals". I have learned a lesson. Take a video recording of any repair technician working in your home, as crappy as that sounds. read more

In short, the timelines were excessively long, communication was lacking, and I found cheaper and faster service elsewhere. Our heat pump started displaying an error right before Christmas. * JANUARY: Someone comes by for a diagnostic visit. This visit cost $245, and no part of that fee went toward the service costs when we continued with the repairs (as is sometimes the case with other companies). They said the capacitor needed to be replaced. * FEBRUARY: Someone called to say the part had come in. They scheduled a visit and charged us. When the technician showed up, he thought he was here for a diagnostic and did not have the part. He said he would ensure the part was ordered. Weeks went by. Finally I started calling them. The part was still on order. Every time I called, they said they were still waiting to get the part from the supplier and that the supplier wasn't providing any information. * JUNE (Remember how my diagnostic was in JANUARY??). The technician installs the new capacitor, but the error still won't go away. He says that I need a new PCB board, and that it shouldn't take long. Someone should call me in the next day or so. No one calls me. I start calling them the following week. The part is on order and they don't know when it will be in. * AUGUST: Finally, I get a call mid-August to schedule the installation of the PCB board, and find out that it's going to cost a lot more money. At this point, I was upset that this was the first time I was hearing about the cost. It's now been 7 MONTHS since the diagnostic visit. I called back and asked to speak to a manager. Instead, I ended up speaking to another guy who was extremely unhelpful. I complained about the timelines and lack of communication, and about paying $245 for a diagnostic that wasn't even correct. He said they did nothing wrong. These things happen, supplier timelines are out of their control, and they don't know the price of parts until they come in. Apparently, I was meant to be okay with waiting 7+ months and never receiving any status updates from them. After all this, I called Dr Heat Pumps. I told the guy I waited 5 months for a capacitor to come in and asked if that was normal. He laughed and said, "Maybe 2-4 weeks!". I gave him the information for my heat pump and he called me back the next day with pricing information for the PCB board and said he could come the following day. The part was $250 cheaper from him. He was very knowledgeable, explained things to me, answered all my questions, and didn't price gouge me. Most of the people I dealt with at Scotia HVAC were nice enough, but something is just off there. It just shouldn't be that difficult or take that long. Absolutely do NOT recommend. read more

Heat pump was dripping inside our home. They are the official vendor for the brand so we call them. They said they charge an upfront $280 diagnostic fee... fine. We pay it, they come and in 10 min they say our drip tray is cracked and will need replacement. We heard nothing for weeks so we call and 'we are waiting on our supplier'. Well its been months now and have still heard nothing back from them. Terrible communication!!! read more

I don't know where to begin. My initial home visit was on October 20th, where it took the guy about two minutes to tell me he needs to order a part for the heat pump unit outside. The technician suggested I needed a new main board. On his way out, he stated someone would contact me when the part arrives, and that it should be by early November. All throughout November I have been calling Scotia HVAC to get an update, and each time was reassured someone would give me a call within 24-48 hours. Still no calls, a week or two later, I call again, and was given the same reassurance that someone would reach out. December rolls around and I called 3 times throughout the month, getting zero calls back, or an update of any kind. Fast forward to January 2nd 2024, I called in again complaining and was referred to the owner to discuss the issue. The owner mentions the original comment, where I was told someone would get in contact with me when the part arrives, then proceeds to say it looks like the part had arrived (clearly no one has contacted me to let me know). For the past two weeks, I have been asking for my money back for the initial visit so I can engage an alternative company to fix the issue. The owner refused to issue a refund and stated they will not reverse the payment, claiming a wait this long is not outside of the norm for this company. The owner was extremely dismissive and apathetic about the level of service (or lack thereof) that I had received. She said the part will be an additional $370 + Tax (which was more expensive than the prices online for the part), then on top of that an additional hour of labor at $129 + tax. Based on how I was treated by who they claimed to be the owner, Ann, I expressed that I don't want to deal with this company ever again and I don't want any services from them. Given the plethora of negative reviews online, this seems to be a very common issue with this company. Worst experience I've had in a long time and not even the 'owner' could provide basic customer service. I have many friends in this industry and will ensure this experienced is shared so others can avoid making the same mistake I did by contacting this company to service my HVAC needs. DO NOT deal with Scotia HVAC, that is my recommendation. read more

Worst experience ever! After finally growing tired of a high oil bill and inconsistent heat in our house (forced air), we decided to get a heat pump. I did some research and based on reviews and a AAA rating with the Better Business Bureau, we decided to go with Scotia HVAC. I have held off writing this review for 2 months in hopes something would change. No such luck. The day the guys showed up to install the unit, after altering our furnace blower to be connected, the guys set to work and argued amongst themselves for the better part of the day. At the end of the day, and it took them a full day, they said they had to come back because one of the parts wasn't working. When they came back and changed out the part, they found the unit was not charged, which they said had never happened before. It was 2 weeks before they got it sorted out. Perfect, we were up and running and had consistent heat throughout the house!...for 4 days. Then the unit stopped working again. Turns out it was blowing fuses. After getting that fixed, they were back 2 days later as it wasn't working again. They did something and it was fixed again. Then it snowed, and it stopped again! Called them about this as we had now run out of oil (we refilled our oil so we had heat). By the time they got back to us, it was 4 days later. They tried to explain that the oil would kick in if the heat pump couldn't handle the load. I told them the heat pump had not run for almost a week. There was still snow sitting on the blades. Once again, they came to fix the heat pump. This time, they claimed it was because the wiring on the thermostat had been done incorrectly (by them). Wouldn't you know it, it stopped working again 2 days later....again. Upon calling the manufacturer, they were told that the thermostat they installed wouldn't work with our heat pump and furnace. It was for a house with electric heat. Amongst all of this, the supervising technician told us the unit was a price of crap. They replaced the thermostat and we once again worked for a day or two. It has been 2 months at this point since we had this installed. Since 4 days now, it's not working again. We called Scotia HVAC and spoke to Mike, who we have been dealing with all along, and he said they were going to make a call to have the unit replaced and he would get back to us in 24 hours. It's been 4 days and we have no idea what is going on as there was no call back! I'm starting to wonder if their employees wrote all of the good reviews I had seen! Anyway, I did hold off as long as I could in hopes that something would change and there would be a happy outcome, but it's been 2 MONTHS!!! I cannot in good conscience recommend this company to anyone! What type of business charges a customer for something and lets the problem persist for two months? This has been the worst buying experience and service experience that we have ever received. ***UPDATE on April 8, 2019*** To update where everything is, on Friday, April 5, they finally replaced our heatpump with a different brand and a larger unit. It has been working perfectly since doing so. They were very pleasant to deal with as they replaced the equipment and were quick and efficient. The only complaint we would have had during this new process is the mud that one of the guys kept tracking across the carpet every time they came in the house. We just finished renting a steam cleaner and cleaning the carpets for the mess they made. Other than that, everything is now working and hopefully will continue working. read more

Original sales consultant visit was good, no problems with installation, except that a last minute switch of units was done, much like another review mentioned. The morning of installation we get a call and the units we ordered were not available, so they would 'upgrade' us to ADC units at no extra cost. Having already waited several months for installation we agreed. All is good and we are happy until about a year later when we start to notice a noise coming from the unit. Living in Pictou they cannot send anyone by for some time, but they diagnose the issue as a fan motor over the phone and order a part. The part is under warranty but this is when they tell us about the 'truck fee' associated with the service call. Funny I didn't remember that in the sales pitch. Regardless, we need it fixed, so we proceed. The service tech finally arrives, takes the unit apart, then determines that the wrong part was ordered. He suggests that he can 'rig' it to make it work, but we were not comfortable with that solution. So he will order a new part and come back. I understand the supply issues companies are having so I wait two months and still no word from Scotia so I call for an update. The part is backordered and they will call me when it comes in. Three months after that with no word so I call again - same story. Seven months after the original service visit we call again. No mention of our previous calls, but they will call around an try to source our part and will call us back. So what happened to the original part order? A week later still no call back. I am frustrated beyond belief and still have the noisy fan problem. And now another one of our units is getting noisy. So I call today, ask to speak to service and they take my info and say they will get back to me. We'll see. I have lost all faith in this company to service this unit. At this point I want the unit fixed or replaced - this has gone on waaay too long. C'mon Scotia, make this right! read more

Sometimes it seems the only way to get the attention you need is to write a review. Here goes: The electrician Jeremy that Scotia HVAC hired to do my panel upgrade refused to even finish his job (owes 2 wired smoke detectors and 2 wall plates) when the inspection failed because of several minor older code violations, Several months later he brought an Inspector around, unexpectedly, and convinced him to sign off on the upgrade noting he, Jeremy, would return that same day to fix 1 small deficiency. 2 Months later and he still hasn't come back. My heat pump blasts cold air for several minutes when the heating cycle starts up, stops mid-cycle to blast more cold air and ends the heating cycle with more cold air. Doesn't make sense. Adam, my Installer said that a different thermostat would fix that but he hasn't returned in several months, nor gotten back to me like he said he would. No provision was made for heat in the heat pump/laundry room, which is half the basement size. It's a cement room/floor so you can imagine how chilly it is when the temp drops. I did not receive any paperwork, no owner's manual, warranty info, nothing. I am extremely dissatisfied with Scotia HVAC. You can't even get a return phone call from them. So happy with the installation process for both my heat pump and my new water heater. I have an oil fired forced air furnace and once they confirmed that I could attach a heat pump and use the blower on the furnace we thought we were good to start - but then Covid-19 hit and we were delayed while things got re-organized. But all the work is done and I am very happy with the experience. Everyone was professional and respected social distancing and I was working from home while it was being done - no problems. Avoid this company unless you are looking to waste money and get swindled! There is a reason they are low on the list of recommended NSP providers and cherry pick their reviews. Initial consultation was interesting...staff were friendly but oddly unit/brand and size had been chosen before our house was even assessed. Then delays with install and a last minute unit swap raised red flags. Requested certified technician for install and recieved unqualified employees who were extremely unprofessional. Asked to borrow electrical material for install,  went as far as openly admitting they had never installed a unit like ours and werent originally scheduled for the installation but sent anyway. When questioned excuses were made with no resolution. This unit has NEVER worked properly! It runs approximately 6x/hr regardless of the thermostat temperature or temperature outside. It struggles to heat and cannot maintain below -2, running CONSTANTLY, short cycling and requiring back up heat. It inadequately cools during the summer. Our basement is absolutely feezing, main level adequate and upper level so frigging hot it requires fans or free standing units to be able to sleep. We were new, young homeowners and taken advantage of. They seen an opportunity to take our money and run. Zero follow up or offer to resolve despite many attempts at contact and negative reviews.
