I am sad to report that a year later, I am finding this buffet lacking in most areas. The only sections that we really found to still be reasonably good were the omelet and waffle stations where they make them fresh to order. But I don't need to go to a buffet to get a waffle. Most things in the chafing dishes (mussels, fish, potatoes, etc) were either dried out or too salty and just tasted terrible. The turkey sausage was so dry and weirdly textured I am not sure it was even meat, let alone turkey. The bagels and other pastries and breads were stale and poor quality. The desserts were especially bad. The big sliced cakes and all the little tiny cakes looked pretty but taste awful - fake whipped cream and too sweet cheap tasting frosting made them nearly inedible. I saw chocolate covered strawberries when I walked in but when I went for dessert they were gone with no replacements forthcoming. The tip was included for our party of 9 but she didn't deserve it - there were several times we needed something and there was no one in sight for long periods. We won't be returning. read more

Scotland Run holds a very special place in my heart, as it is where my husband and I got married. We now make it a tradition to return each year around our anniversary for their Sunday brunch. We are very lucky that they we have the opportunity to go back to our venue each year since a lot of venues are only limited to special occasions like weddings and showers offered in their banquet halls. The Sunday brunch is your quintessential Sunday brunch. They have a made-to-order omelet station, fresh waffle press, carving station, along with over a dozen options served in chafers. The options range from scrambled eggs to chicken Marsala. They also offer a range of bagels, pastries and salad dishes. There is a great variety of options without being overwhelming. The apple stuffed pancakes and the carved turkey were by far my favorite dishes during my most recent visit. On our reservation we noted that we were celebrating our anniversary and we were welcomed back with open arms. Our table was covered in rose pedals and we were provided a complimentary glass of champagne to enjoy with our brunch. JoAnn, one our wedding coordinators, was on site during our recent and came over to say hello to us and catch up. Even years after our wedding, the customer service at Scotland Run is top notch. Everyone we encountered a few years back was a pleasure to work with especially JoAnn and Kelly. Let me premise by saying that not every venue is right for every couple, but Scotland Run was 110% perfect for us. From start to finish, we were in fabulous hands and had the event of our dreams. No bride ever thinks there will be rain on her wedding day, and that was certainly something I hadn't planned for. No biggie, Scotland Run had a contingency plan and had everything taken care of. Years later our guests still rave about our wedding but by far they rave about the mashed potato bar and the dessert table. It goes without saying that the grounds are gorgeous and that's one of the things we fell in love with initially. The view from the ballroom was the greenery of the golf course and open skies. The pavilion was decorated with many, many different types of flowers adding luscious color. The venue was so pretty, we kept any extra decorations to the minimum. While our wedding day is now a day in the past, it is so nice to know that we can always come back for some special time to reminisce. read more

Very disappointed at tonight's dinner for a number of reasons. First, the menu was incomplete. I had to ask if the crab cakes included anything else. Was informed they came with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. The big problem is that my wife ordered the lobster ravioli, not knowing that it came with crabmeat, which she is highly allergic to. Had to send it back with no reduction in price. Second, The food was not hot when it arrived, only Luke warm. Third, the bang bang shrimp appetizer was just fried shrimp with the bang bang sauce. Could have been anything. It was pricy for what you received. Our bill before tip was about $120. So not worth it. There are at least 5 other things we did not like about this venue and will not be returning. Unfortunately we came for my 68th birthday, and were very disappointed. read more

I will never come back. My girlfriend and I went to the bar area to watch the Kentucky derby. We met another couple all of in our 50s. They were apparently flagged before the race after a handful of drinks between them. When the race came on we were cheering and got asked to tone it down. OK, not a problem, didn't protest or ask questions. The entire race was 2 minutes. When I asked the bartender after for another drink he had to ask the the other bartender if it was ok and he said NO. Service and food was good, bartender OK, management sucked. It was totally unnecessary flagging just so you know never got flagged in my life. Will never go your establishment again and will give you a poor ratings to others. read more

We went to the Sunday brunch buffet for a family event recently. I was very impressed with every aspect of the establishment. The building is quite grand, the dining room is spacious and nicely decorated in a typical fashion typical of a better restaurant. We had a big enough group for a private room. There was talk that there was an upcharge for the room, and there was also talk that the charge was waived. I don't know for sure. The buffet was very nice - there was a station with salads and baked goods including individual tubs of creme cheese and rather undistinguished bagels that one could put very good nova (smoked salmon) on along with capers and chopped onions on the same plate. There was bacon, pork and turkey sausage, scrambled eggs, various hot dishes including muscles, a chicken with mushrooms thing, and creamed chipped beef to name perhaps 1/2. There was a carving station with turkey, ham, and roast beast, a omelet station and waffle station and a desert table. Eggs Benedict were available but had to be ordered from the server because the kitchen made them to order. The deserts were not the greatest but they were still good. I had a mini cannoli which had a soft shell from sitting but the filling was great, a chocolate covered strawberry and one or two little baked things. Coffee, tea, and orange juice was included and they also brought diet coke on request. The coffee was very good and the OJ was also fine but it was not Tropicana fresh squeezed quality. Service was attentive and obliging. Plates were cleared frequently, glasses were filled and requests to take group pictures were honored with a smile! For 18.95 plus tax and tip I think it's a great deal! read more

We had Onion Rings and Wings as appetizers... absolutely fantastic. The onion rings were perfectly cooked, nicely breaded, and served in golf ball buckets. The wings, were amazingly, the best wings anyone at my table had every had, they were a good meaty size, fried to perfection, and the sauce was not too hot, not too weak, just right. I also had the Linguine and crab, which was decent, but is why I didn't give this place 5 stars, I expected a little more after the appetizers blew me away. Someone at my table had the seafood platter and they thought it was delicious. The service was also excellent, Ryan was our server. The building and dining room are also quite nice. read more

This review is regarding Scotland Run as a wedding venue and their food service. I would like to start with the good things- Marlo, in their sales department is beyond wonderful. I started talking to her more than 2 years before our event. We live in Texas and were planning our small wedding (50 people) back home in NJ, which to say the least is difficult. We had a very strict budget and were looking for a Friday brunch wedding to accommodate a specific date we wanted. Marlo met with myself and parents and went over everything as well as gave us a tour. A couple months later I reached back to Marlo after debating which venue to go with- even though I was IN LOVE with this one- purely because it was going to be over budget. Marlo was able to MAKE IT HAPPEN for the price per person we needed it to be. She was super responsive to every email- and there were MANY. When it came to dropping everything off before our event, it was super easy. They even gave us a cart to load it all on. My husband and I told her where everything went and they even set it up for us- great! Day of the wedding, the bridal suite even had fruit and champagne for us! Marlo and Alex even came over to discuss last minute details for the ceremony at their outdoor pavilion- which was honestly the biggest selling point. The landscaping is breathtakingly beautiful and didn't require for my florist to do very much. I couldn't go downstairs and risk my husband seeing me beforehand, so they made sure it was perfect. They were also able to put a dispenser for water and cups. We had an August wedding and you know how humid it gets in NJ then. They also had fans going in the pavilion which were appreciated. The space was wonderful. Pavilion, for the ceremony was everything I could have dreamed of, and looked beautiful in photos. Completely covered in the event of rain which we were fortunate not to have. Cocktail hour room had gorgeous light- it was recently added- and we used it for some "getting ready" photos. The full ballroom was too big for our event, so they did have to put a divider up- which was fine. Easy access to the cocktail hour space, you could walk right into the main room. And also easy access to the bathrooms. I will say, the food was EXCELLENT. We received numerous compliments on how good it was. I mean, brunch is pretty difficult to mess up, but it was wonderful. French toast especially. There were tons of options, different pasta salads, bacon, eggs, sausage, pastries, seafood dish, chicken dish, fruit, omelette bar.. there was event a dessert table- too full to even try this! We did have a small cocktail hour- cocktail franks, mini quiche and a big cheese platter. We didn't participate since we took our photos during this time, but we were impressed they saved us some quiche and cocktail franks. Nice detail! Now I will go into some of the things we were disappointed on.... First issue was there seemed to be a miscommunication about the wine service. We paid per bottle that was consumed, however, they only served the wine during the reception. Essentially, we had a dry cocktail hour. We just didn't know until afterwards. This made us the most upset. I knew that we weren't charged for many bottles of wine, but couldn't figure out why until later... We truly wish someone had asked us. It seems that there was an issue where their system does not let them put on the contract for both parts.... however, this was not communicated until later when we brought this to the managements attention. The wine that was bultered also was not brought around as much was we would have liked. You would think that they would want us to spend more, but I did see people having to go in search of the wine. Also some guests went to the bar downstairs because of this issue. We did not want our guests buying drinks. Another few issues was the maitre de dropping our cake topper at the end of the event and it breaking. A shame. Our challah bread for the ceremony was also left in the big plastic bag because they didn't think to ask how we would like it- a previous wedding kept theirs in the bag. Its made it awkward for the blessing. And lastly, since our event ended at 3:30pm, and they had another event at 6pm, they rushed us out at the end. We were told to clean out the bridal suite even before the last song was played. And our centerpieces were deconstructed before the end. We were able to resolve our biggest complaint, with the sales manager, which is why I am leaving a good rating because overall, they made my dream of the outdoor space happen. It was a beautiful wedding. We just wish the wine service was discussed more thoroughly due to the issues we encountered. I would still suggest this venue to anyone who asks, the food is excellent. My mom and I also stopped by during one of my visits home to try the restaurant downstairs. Also good. I will say, this venue will make for gorgeous photos and the staff is very easy to talk to. Highlander Pub & Grill at Scotland Run Golf Course Our family considers this establishment "Home Base" for us. It's the "go to" place to celebrate our birthdays, anniversaries, etc. It's classy, comfortable and moderately priced. We are Scotch-Irish descent and the menu is perfect for us with some traditional dishes as well as some items that make us stretch ourselves. Whether it's dining on the terrace overlooking the putting green, or in the dining room or in the pub area it's always a pleasant experience. On this particular evening Jared served us, and my wife who was celebrating her birthday remarked how much he enjoyed herself because the family was able to talk extensively without being rushed out the door. The food was good. They put the hockey game on the TV that was in my son's view at his request. Jared's service was outstanding. The family arrived a bit late for our reservation but the hostess made us feel like it was no problem and she seated us with grace and politeness. Be advised that the noise level in the dining room can be a bit loud at busy times but there are many other places you can be asked to be seated that will give you quiet and privacy. read more

Great food and service! I have been here for lunch and dinner. The turkey club sandwich is so delicious and very generous. I had an equally delicious and fresh dish called "Chicken Strada" from the dinner menu. Currently, bottles of wine are half price on Thursdays. Outdoor seating is lovely! read more

By far the single worst best to eat in south jersey. Me and my girlfriend went here for the Sunday brunch, after a recommendation from a friend. Just looking at the buffet everything looked a little old and dry. Our server, who we only saw for our orders and drop off the bill, refilled our drinks without asking. That's normally a good thing, except when your diabetic and they give you regular soda, since we never saw her I couldn't even get a glass of water. The food was salty, dried, and was overcooked. The price was ridiculous for the poor service and quality. The manager offered us discounts on our return visit. I was given something I can't have; and then expect me to return. I have never been treated so poorly and then asked to return, what to suffer another salty and dry meal with no drink? We will NEVER go back. Fyi just because your chef claims to have gone to culinary school, doesn't mean they graduated. read more

Not sure what the deal is with this place. I went there about 2 months ago and my thought was that the service couldn't get any worse......well, it did yesterday. My wife and I went there to celebrate our wedding anniversary....what a mistake. First of all, they weren't even crowded but the service was EXTREMELY slow. I decided on the sirloin steak....absolutely horrible. After finding the meat under the mushrooms and onions, I discovered that half of the steak was fat. Worst steak I've ever had. If you want a good steak, go to Texas Roadhouse...you won't be disappointed. The Highlander used to be one of my favorite places but not anymore. Drink prices are ridiculous ($4 for a Miller Lite draft), food quality is poor and the service is pitiful....I'm finding a new favorite spot..... read more

Here today for nieces' wedding shower..... Room is soooo f'n hot!!!! My cousin kept asking the manager to do something but no help!! My mother has a heart problem, my other niece is 9 months pregnant, both had to keep going out in the hall to cool off. About 2 hours after we started complaining they brought in 1 fan!!! And that was only because we suggested it. What a disgrace!!!! People were leaving early and couldn't even enjoy themselves because they were so hot read more

I wanted to take my husband and children for a nice Father's Day Brunch, they were booked for their morning brunch but said they had one for Dinner. The meats were cold,(the manager said that prime rib is always served room temperature) I guess all the other times I have had very warm or hot prime rib was wrong. All the pasta dishes were dry with hardly any sauce, and flies and fruit flies were flying and landing on all the salads on the salad bar. The dessert bar had two half eaten cakes and a bunch of leftover from earlier meals and defrosted pastries that were mushy and stale. I would never want to endure another meal at this place ever again. read more

What an absolute mess!!! I thought at one point the service couldn't get any worst, well it has. They are hiring inexperience wait staff that is confused most the time. The kitchen is a disaster. Not only has the food taken a drastic down turn, but if the kitchen is questioned, you are given the most absurd responses. My daughter order Penne Vodka, which she has ordered 20+ times. She got Penne Abbratta. When we questioned it, we were told the new chef made it like this. The chef couldn't understand why we sent it back (he just made a spicy meal for a 6 year old). The waitress had to tell him how to make it correctly. My husband and I ordered Filet, which was full of fat in the middle. When I asked the waitress, she said all their Filet Mignon was like that. Problem is, Filet should have NO FAT. That's why you pay extra for it. The time before this I ordered the Antipasta. One of the meats came out with MOLD on it and all the vegtables were wet and soggy. Very obvious they had been frozen and defrosted by placing them out of the freezer. My husband used to be a huge fan of the burgers, but now they have switched from making their own to using a pre-ordered frozen patty. We will NOT be eating here for anything but brunch again. POSITIVES - AMAZING Sunday brunch. Which is now, the only day we eat food there.
