He's very friendly, easy to talk to, and makes sure to answer your questions and concerns.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The surgery on my right eye went well and I was thrilled with the improvement in my eyesight. The night before the surgery on my left eye I had spent hours on the phone with a suicidal friend. Late into the night I got a text from my friend telling me not to worry about him anymore because he had swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills and I shouldn't worry about him anymore. We called 911 to check on him. Thankfully, his attempt was unsuccessful and he was taken to a psych ward for observation and treatment. I went to my scheduled surgery that morning, but at the time I still didn't know that the police had found him alive. I hadn't heard any results. So I was a little more nervous than normal in the waiting room and when they took me back for surgery, [[HIGHLIGHT]]I explained my nervousness to the nurse and she got Dr. So and he came and listened to my story and told me that we should not do the surgery, and he was very, very kind and explained that the nervousness and the stress that I have been under wouldn't be helpful for healing in my eye, and very politely and delicately he explained that tears and the kind of grief and crying that comes with losing a friend could mess up the surgery and I would just have to repeat it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I knew that Dr So was opening his own practice and I would no longer be able to reach him through Pacific Eye. I told him that I trusted him and I really didn't want to postpone the surgery and have to find another eye doctor. Dr. So is an excellent glaucoma surgeon. He operated my mom when she was 78 for both cataract and glaucoma. The projection was that the surgery would help her glaucoma only for few years. Instead, my mom was lucky to enjoy her fixed vision (and normal lifestyle!!!) for 12 years!!! She was under Dr. So care/monitoring all these years. Last year, all of the sudden, her eye pressure jumped too high, and she lost vision on one eye, and the uncontrollable eye pressure was about to destroy her second eye and leave her totally blind. Dr. So took a tremendous risk and performed a second glaucoma surgery, and it was successful. Now, it's already a year after my 91 years old mom has a normal eye pressure. I have been seeing Dr So for over 15 years now and wouldn't hesitate a moment in recommending him to my closest friends and family. I developed a severe form of glaucoma at a very young age but was unaware because I kept putting off seeing a specialist as my regular eye doctor had recommended. That was a huge mistake. **Please take your eye health seriously and act promptly** It was perhaps a year or two after the original recommendation to see a specialist that I finally made an appointment. What actually pushed me to go in was while doing inventory at work late one night there came a moment where I couldn't see the clipboard I was holding in my hands. My vision came and went and I was scared and beginning to panic. The next day I made an appointment to see Dr So. I felt terrible and was being really hard on myself for waiting so long. I was angry, sad, and frustrated. However, I walked away from my first visit with Dr So feeling much better about myself and my situation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr So diagnosed my form of glaucoma, explained clearly and simply how it was affecting my eye health, where we stood, and what we could do about it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr So is such a personable doctor and excellent communicator. As far as results go my eye pressure-and overall eye health-has been VERY WELL maintained. My eye pressure has remained BELOW our target range for 99% of the time I've been seeing him. I come in for quarterly evaluations and Dr So makes any necessary adjustments to my treatment. He's also an excellent surgeon as I've had one procedure (trabeculectomy) years ago and still to this day it's holding up perfectly. On Thursday, November 16, 2023 I had an appointment with Dr. So. I had glaucoma pressure test, pressure was 18 both eyes. Then I had pictures of the back of my eyes. Then I was put in an exam room to wait for Dr. So. Instead another person comes in and does more test. I have no idea who she was. Next Dr. So comes in and tells me my pressures are not low enough, should be at 15, and I should have surgery. Told him I didn't want surgery, he tried to put numbing drops in my eye to show me what the surgery would be like. I refused and he ordered more drops, he was angry and stormed out of the room. Such a strange -- and offensive -- visit. I went in because my eye was swollen. Here was the conversation: Dr. So: You have droopy eyelids. How old are you? Me: 36. Dr. So: Have you considered a brow lift? Me: Is this a medical issue? Dr. So: Well, it's more cosmetic. What do you do for work? Me: Freelancing. Dr. So: Well, are you ever in front of clients? Me: I'm on maternity leave. Dr. So: Have you lost all of your baby weight yet? WHAT?! I have never had a doctor ask such inappropriate and offensive questions -- or recommend that I needed facial plastic surgery. Completely unhelpful and offensive. Hard pass. read more

In April 2017, my grandmother went to Dr So for surgery as she had developed glaucoma and cataracts in her right eye. Dr. So did the surgery and a day later, my grandma woke up in the middle of the night because there was white discharge coming out of her eye. She immediately went back to Dr. So and he merely prescribed her drops and wrote a note that this was temporary. Well, it's now been over 2 years and still no vision in her right eye. Dr. So had great reviews so I contacted his office & he was booked out months in advance. They fit me in for a telehealth video appointment pretty quickly. When I explained my situation, Dr. So got his staff to find dates for my exams & 2 surgeries within my time frame. I was thrilled. He explained everything to me & could not have been nicer. This review isn't for Dr. So himself, but for his assistant. I never had a chance to talk to Dr. So. I called several times to request an appointment. His assistant (scheduler) told me that I need to agree to have my eyes dilated during the visit. I explained it to her that I couldn't do that due to my eye condition. She then told me I therefore couldn't get the appointment. With common sense, it'll make sense if she says the doctor will decide whether to dilate the eyes. Dr. So is very disappointing after a number of people referred me. I was having trouble seeing distances which he diagnosed as small cataracts that weren't ready for surgery and for which medicare would not pay He recommended my glasses be adjusted. I visited my optometrist of 15 years (Dr. Woo at SF COSTCO) who would not adjust my glasses because i NEEDED CATARACT SURGERY and referred me to Dr. Danny Lin in the same office Pacific Eye Assoc. Three months later I just had my second surgery and my vision improvement is miraculous. I'm not sure whose eyes Dr. So was looking at but they weren't mine. You have multiple reviews of this man treating women with zero respect. This is the perfect example of systemic issues in workplaces. Yesterday, this doctor diagnosed me with something quite serious with zero empathy all while being treated like a dumb blonde. As I said multiple times I had a dull ache in the back of my eye and pointing to the bottom of the eye, he continued to argue with me about where I was pointing and that I was pointing at the front. I said "It's hard to point to the back of your eyeball. Please just listen to my words" He then continued to be very combative with any question I had. I am a very calm person who has gone through a lot of corporate simulators and this was ten times worse. If someone spoke like this at work he would most likely be fired. Front office is a mess. Patients are treated like cattle and after being unable to diagnose me after a battery of tests, had me do some tests at another clinic, which they said they would schedule for me. Didn't hear back after a month and followed up with them and they had no clue what i was talking about. I had to coordinate with the other clinic and pacific eye associates again. Got charged again for the 2nd visit which lasted 2 mins. Some sort of ambiguity around billing. Was told all my charges were cleared after the visit when i paid a lot of the costs with my card at front desk. Then kept on receiving a series of bill for the next few months. I received a referral from my optometrist to see Dr So to get a baseline for glaucoma. After multiple visits, Dr So informed me I did not have glaucoma but still would like to see me every year. I am relatively young and don't have any risk factors for glaucoma so I just asked him if he could explain why he wanted to keep seeing me each year, if there was something that was concerning him, and how concerned I should be. E.g. what makes my case different than any other normal healthy person? He couldn't give me a clear answer but just kept saying "I can't tell the future." I don't like signing up for healthcare where I don't have a clear idea of why I'm receiving care (it's called informed consent). So I kept asking him if he could clarify by phrasing my questions in different ways. I definitely got the sense that he was irritated by my questions and expected me to just fall in line and "obey" him as the doctor. He treated me like I was too dumb to understand what he was saying and refused to explain himself despite me asking him over and over. He eventually just got up and left the room. Yes Dr So, you can't tell the future, you're not God, even though you seemed to act like you are. Multiple reviews have mentioned hi condescending and dismissive he is to women. The fact that he is still employed at this clinic is heinous. Please find a physician that treats a full 50% of the population like we are humans deserving of respect. read more

My grandma had an appointment with him, and she went with her caregiver. When he went into the room where they had been told to wait for him, he came in with a horrible attitude. He was rude to my mother when she asked him a single question because my grandmother does not speak English. He would not even take the time to look at her past medical files and did not do any examinations on my grandmother. He was in the room for approximately 3 minutes when he stood up and said, have a nice day, with an incredibly rude tone. My mother, the caregiver, was begging the doctor to do a medical examination on her. However, he would look her dead in the eye and repeat himself, "Have a nice day." This caused my grandmother, a cancer patient and a person with diabetes, to spike her blood pressure, which sent her to the emergency room. My grandmother's amount of stress that day with her appointment with Scott So is completely unacceptable. This person should lose his medical license immediately for his unprofessionalism. read more

Dr. So is terrible. Was referred to him for possible glaucoma diagnosis from another doc in that office. My friend had already warned me that he misdiagnosed her about a year ago. But I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He comes in with two "assistants", one with a chart, the other observing i guess. Asks me if i knew why i was there..... yes so you can check to see if i have glaucoma! Asked him to explain what it is, and he says "my assistant will explain to you what it is" and walks out. Comes back after looking at my test results and says "yep, you have it"... "the treatment options are laser surgery or eye drops, i'm sure you'd rather do eye drops..." I said, "wait a min, can i get more information and can you explain the diagnosis?" His reply "oh, you want a second opinion?" Dr. So is just great! I have a family history of glaucoma and he is the person to see. He explained to me how glaucoma can be hereditary and passed down as well as how it is possible to treat it. Currently being so young, he is monitoring me every year to make sure that if and when something in my eyes change, we can take action sooner rather than later. He's very kind and very knowledgeable. He cares about how I feel and what's going on with my eyes and takes the extra step to make sure I'm doing ok. The clinic staff that he works with are great as well because they know the steps needed to take in order to make sure Dr. So can assess my visit quickly and efficiently. read more

I was referred to him with a potentially severe eye problem, and he did NOT treat me like a number or just his latest appointment, nor did he try to rush me out the door.
