Scott's is a hair salon right on Bridgeway in Sausalito. The first time I went there after moving to southern Marin, I went on the recommendation of a friend of a friend. He did a fairly good job of cut & color, but like many hair stylists he hadn't quite got the good customer service thing down. It's not that they are disagreeable, the main problem is that they don't listen to what you want and they believe they know better what will look good on you and just do it. Well, they are probably right, but if I want my hair blue and bobbed, then that is what I want and what I am paying for. Scott was one of those nice guys who just nodded and continued talking to someone else and then just did his thing with my hair. I looked ok when he finished, but not as I wanted. I'm a "shake my head and let it dry" kind of girl - don't want to spend 20 minutes, 2 mirrors and a dryer to get it done, so it has to be cut well to keep from looking like the scarecrow from the Wizard of OZ . . . even so I do look a little disheveled most of the time. Well, I gave him about a 5 on a scale of 10 when he finished. Enough to give him a second chance, besides I didn't have any back-ups, since I was new to town. I made another appointment 5 or 6 weeks out on a Saturday. Well, the morning of the appointment came and I woke up with a horrendous migraine headache. No way could I even get out of bed, let alone drive 10 miles. So I called to cancel. Didn't want to just not show up. Figured he would be real busy and he could slip someone else in that spot whom he had to turn away. Also I wanted to reschedule. When I told him I was very ill and wanted to cancel and reschedule, he interrupted me and said I better make my next appointment somewhere else, because I could never return to his shop and he hung up on me. Whoa! What do you mean? I can't get sick? Was he having a bad hair day? A hangover? Now any of you who knows me knows that I was not rude or impolite - not in my nature, I was just sick. Needless to say, I have NEVER returned to this shop, nor have I ever recommended it. And I have never told my friend or her friend what happened. I just quietly slipped away to nicer folks. It's been a while, maybe he's mellowed out since then, but I'm not going to find out . . . I can't guarantee that I'll never get sick again. My advice: Enter at your own risk. read more

Love Scott! He is the only hairstylist I've used that actually knows what 'to the roots' means when getting highlights. For the first time in years, I walked out of the salon with blond to scalp, not an unsightly brown ring at my roots. I also asked for pink highlights weaved throughout the blond, and he did a FANTASTIC job. This is a request that is easy to over-due, but the placing and shade is perfect. His eyebrow waxing actually pleases my husband, and I swear my husband is the pickiest man I know when it comes to a woman's eyebrows. His prices are half what I was paying in the city, with twice the care and service ($125 for a cut and 2/3 highlights, $15 for eyebrows). To top it off, his chai tea was delicious, and he has interesting magazines to read while waiting. Both very important indeed. ;) I'm moving out of the immediate area, but I plan on making the trip back into Sausalito every time I need my hair done. Scott is def. worth the appointment. read more

Went in for a pretty drastic cut, which I now realize was a mistake. He first told me we would take it slow because it was a lot of length and he doesn't know me. I said no need but whatever makes you comfortable. He didn't go short enough so I asked him to go shorter - like the picture. So he cut more length in a sort of inverted u-shape. It looked really bad, so I asked him to please do something with the ends because they were really blunt - he said you will blow dry it under - which I said I won't and I told you i don't blow out my hair every day. He got really nervous and said well that was a completely different cut and he doesn't know me, so he wanted me to "live" with it for a week and would need me to come back so he could take the time to do it right. Then he made me leave! I was there for 30 minutes from the time I walked in the door until I walked out. I came in for a cut, so I assumed he would allow time to give me a cut. He didn't even wash it. I was so shocked that he would let someone leave his salon like that. He made an appointment for a week later, which I called to cancel and his response was "Great! Thank you for letting me know." Horrid. If you can't do the cut, just tell your client BEFORE you start instead of chopping off 12" and then booting them out the door. Pretty unbelievable. Two stars because he didn't charge me. read more

Being a guy, my hair needs are REAL simple. Scott is near where I work, and I called him up to see if he could do a real quick trim for me. Very friendly, and I've been going to him for a while now. My hair is short, so it's always a real quick stop-in, but he's professional and courteous none the less. He treats me as well as he treats his much bigger clients, who spend hours with him and pay him well for it. That's the definition of professionalism if you ask me. read more

I made an early Saturday morning appointment without much notice and Scott was willing to give me a 9:30am appointment. I got partial highlights and a cut, both came to $130, $150 w/ tip and Scott did an excellent job. I'm extremely picky about my hair and he really did a fantastic job. While I am new to Yelp, I am not new to Scott. He has been taking care of my hair for over 30 years; outlasting two marriages. He has been at the same great Sausalito location the entire time. Obviously I think highly of his haircutting skills. He offers great company and humor - very few subjects are off the table. After a "good client" offer for some eye brow waxing and a little trimming of chest hair, I decided to take on his waxing skills for the more sensitive regions. I am now enjoying some baby smooth areas of my body that have not been that way since being a baby. He is very skilled and will use products that best suit the areas being waxed. When I moved to San Francisco in the mid 70's, the first thing I asked was "where is the best hair stylist?" Three very attractive friends recommended Scott. I have been going to him ever since. I moved to Hawaii for 14 years, and missed the consistent great look Scott always gave me. I have very fine hair, and Scott knows exactly what cut and color is perfect for me. I attend several major events, (Grammys concerts, meeting celebrities, etc..) and he always does a special look for me (including the latest look, "fantasy" hair, and a more elegant look) Wherever I go, I am complemented on my hair, and I always recommend Scott.
