Expectations that were set for delivery/planting were not remotely met. Tree that was planted was not done correctly (ball was not untied). Accessories that were purchased (peat moss, mulch) were not delivered. No buds were on the tree, and when installer was asked when the blooms may appear, he said "soon". No buds appeared. When bill for install was paid, we deducted for peat moss and mulch not delivered. We were then told our warranty on the tree was voided. We would never do business with this company again. read more

It is Saturday at around 11 am. We did passed this Nursery on our from NY to another one 10 miles or so further away. After striking out with getting a Cherry tree, we decided to stop here and see if we have any luck. Their prices seems better. There is no staff to speak of. It it is however a well stock garden store. I love all the ornaments they are selling there. I didn't think it is fair to leave it at 2 stars from 3 years ago. And we are so happy to have many cherry trees to pick from so we can fulfill our Arbor Day obligations. read more

Very nice looking place with lots of great merchandise... However, I had to leave without purchasing anything because no one there was able to give me a price on anything or ring me up! All three of the people I saw working there told me it was their first day and they were unable to find the cashier or anyone else who actually knew anything. Kind of frustrating... read more

I bought organic raised bed mix and it sprouted a lot of mushrooms and needed a lot of amending for nutrients. Too much wood in the mix.

My wife and I stopped by Scott's to pick up some perennials for our garden. We walked around for approximately 20 minutes and pick up a few plants that were perfectly unique and beautiful. As we approached the cashier area on of the employees approached us and curtly stated that if we were going to purchase our items we would have to pay cash, because all of their credit card terminals were already shut down. I asked if an exception could be made and again I was abruptly shut down. I surrendered our plants and as my wife and I were searching for an exit we noticed we were locked in! We looked around for an employee for assistance and we overheard two employees discussing why they didn't just take down our card information with and give us a receipt. But no solution was tendered... we were briskly shown the exit and left pondering how such despicable service was possible. No apology was made, just the sound of the gate slamming behind us. We travelled over 45 minutes to New Milford and thought that Scott's was a reputable location but after this display of customer disrespect I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I am not a local and am easily identifiable as such. During one visit, we asked a woman questions about some of the trees. I guess one of my questions had a word with too many syllables in it because she recoiled, looked panicked and had no interest in continuing the conversation. Just like that. I am an extremely well-spoken and well-mannered person. Confident articulate polite minorities are a bad thing for the locals, I get it. I didn't go back for months but when I did, no one came to help us, and we wandered the lot at least 15 minutes. As we started to leave and new customers arrived, someone raced out of the office and overly-welcomed the new customers so we could hear it. He actually stared at us as he was talking to the new customer. Xenophobic much? At minimum, this place is obviously poorly-managed. At worst, I wonder if there is a burning-cross section in their lot. Ask yourself if you want to give your money to a business that puts more energy into being vile than being helpful and professional. Any nursery has to be better than this one. read more

After two years of buying plants at Scott's, I purchased six shrubs 3 weeks ago called Diablo Common Ninebark. They were $35 each for a total of $210. On the label in bright pink letters were the words DEER RESISTANT! (including exclamation mark). I don't have a significant deer problem but not being familiar with the plant, I found it reassuring to know I was planting deer resistant plants. However, two weeks later, the six plants were half the size. Deer loved them. I went back to Scott's with the plant label and photos of the eaten plants. I assumed Scott's would offer me a credit. I was willing to dig up the plants and return them if they asked me to. I asked to speak to the manager who brushed me off. She said, "You must have a major deer problem." I said I did not. I asked her if I could return the plants. "No returns," she said, and then actually turned her back and walked away. Scott's just lost me as a customer for $210. More importantly, I want to alert future customers that customer service is not what they are about. It's a stupid and exceptionally short-sighted way of doing business. read more

I've been shopping here for about 2 years now. I visited 2x earlier, this year, in late spring and early summer and walked out without purchasing anything, because there wasn't a soul in sight to assist, ring, or answer questions. I walked the whole grounds TWICE to find anyone. Like a ghost town. This is CLEARLY an ISSUE that they've had for a while. I don't understand the lack of employees, when this is considered an upscale landscaping company in our area. I will say that they're selection of plants, trees, and shrubs were abundant and overall well maintained. But unless it was on sale, the prices are very high. The gift shop is awesome. Lots of artist items such as, soaps, figurines, statues, scarves, tshirts, succulent planters, etc. I purchased a jug of garden granules, to help a pest problem with my plants. Unfortunately, I went to Home Depot later in the day, and the EXACT same jug was $7 cheaper. To me, that's a substantial difference. I'm giving 3 stars, instead of 1, because yesterday I was lucky enough to shop on a day that Colleen was working. What a wonderful employee! I remembered she was the women who helped me last year that was so informative about the plants I picked out. Once again, she helped me so patiently and answered a ton of questions I had about various flowers. I ended up spending around $100, because of her knowledge and advice. I will shop there in the future, but will call ahead and ask when Colleen is working. I really hope this company realizes how important customer service is and that Colleen is such an asset to them. ONLY because of Colleen I am giving a 3 star rating instead of 1 star. read more

I just assumed they would offer me a credit. I just didn't know if they wanted me to dig up the plants and return them, or the photos would be adequate evidence of the problem. To my amazement, the manager brushed me off. She said I must live in an area with a lot of deer because no one else has complained. I asked, if I can return them? "No returns" she said and briskly walked away. $210 is not a big deal for me and certainly it's not for Scott's. But they just lost me as a customer over it. More importantly future customers should beware that customer service is not what they are about. Having shopped there for the past couple of years they have seemed pleasant and accommodating, but obviously not so when something goes wrong. It's a stupid way to run a business. read more

Great local landscaping firm for weekly maintenance or new projects. Always good for nice Christmas trees as well. Recommend.
