However, it's only $10 now that I have my own life jacket (saving me additional cost of $5 to use one of theirs, as required). Well worth the low cost for some soul-enriching, communing with nature. I have never made a reservation. I normally arrive around 10:30, most recently on a Friday. Parked for free on Baptist Camp Rd. Just a bit of a walk from there with my inflated paddleboard, but I don't mind the extra exercise. You can unload your stuff closer, if preferable. There are port-a-potties available. You can count on there being a line in the check-in office. Various recreation supplies are available there for purchase. The process moves reasonably enough. A reservation will guarantee your entrance, however, and possibly aide quicker personal info collection. I always plan to do the Emerald Cut in roughly 3 hours round-trip, allowing myself several stops to enjoy the surroundings. You do run into (quite literally at times) novice paddlers along the way, which can be a bit tricky, yet not a real nuisance for me. In general, there's friendliness along the waterway. Slighty rowdy, party vibes in some spots, but also opportunities for solace and zen in various nooks. Encountering wildlife, fragrant elderberry, and other captivating flora along this stretch is always gratifying. It's a popular recreation destination for good reason.

A few things knock the stars down: - The amount of rules/ regulations is a downside. There are more than any other river we've visited in Florida. It's nerve wracking to make sure you're following every new rule. - Launching and landing at the dock is stressful. It feels rushed and disorganized. - The bathroom situation is DIRE. They have a few porta potties but they're pretty gross. - I've found some of the staff intimidating/ borderline rude. There are a lot of newbies to kayaking/ paddleboarding so patience is a virtue at busy times! It's a hard paddle up stream and coming back it can be easy to lose control around the corners. There are a few spots to be cautious of other paddlers. With that said, it's really stunning. They keep the area very clean and there are a lot of spots to pull off to the side to enjoy the view. I've never done a guided tour, but I've heard they're really well done!

Before going out, we got a comprehensive safety brief and were informed of an area to keep our belongings. As we were cruising, we wore headsets with speakers in which captain Ryan was speaking about the surrounding environment. The headset also had microphones in which we would reply to him. As we got into the swampy area, the ride was smooth and as someone who is scared of water, I felt completely safe. Captain Ryan brought us to some wonderful hidden gems such as a few alligator nests where he explained their structure in detail and answered any questions with complete answers. We got very close to alligators and baby alligators (freshly hatched the day before) and it was an amazing experience. Captain Ryan made us feel confident that we were not in danger and if we were, he would be able to handle it. As we were finishing our tour it started to pour and we switched our headset out for a water friendly version. Rather than bringing us directly back to the docking area, we sat under an overpass to prevent getting completely drenched and possibly hurt. We made it back and Captain Ryan made sure we were all safe getting off. Overall, a truly wonderful experience. More than worth the price. It was beyond what we expected in the best ways.

Christina was out tour guide and she was great. She pointed out things along the way. Helped with pictures. And even recommended other things to do in the area after the tour. I would recommend coming as early as you can because the water path was filling up with people around noon. And bring goggles!! If you can, come on days when it isn't raining for clearer waters, but at if you can't avoid it, there will still be an opportunity for clear water.

Let's start by saying that you should make sure you are scheduling for the right location as sending someone the direct link may still send them to a different location, as with our experience. I sent my beautiful partner the link to Rock Springs (Rock springs was literally in the URL), but it sent her to Silver Springs. We didn't notice until the trip was booked (less than 10 minutes later) and tried to contact the office to see if we can be transferred over to Rock Springs or if they could cancel the booking since it was literally minutes ago. Unfortunately, we didn't think we would need the trip protection add-on for something like this, but we were told we can only reschedule at the same location because we didn't purchase it... The funny thing is that the Rock Springs option didn't even show up for her when she was trying to rebook, but it did show up for me. Anyways, it's just something I highly suggest you pay attention to. Unpleasant booking issue aside, since we did have to book and pay again for this trip, the tour was pretty good. Our guide was Meagan, who was great. She was also accompanied by a guide who was transferring over to this location who was also helpful. First off, let me say if you have never done a two person tandem kayak before, it can be a little difficult to get in sync and start making progress. We did however get into the groove after the first stop upstream, and after that, the trip was fun and full of sights. The paddling up stream is a bit of a work out, so be prepared for that. You will stop at multiple scenic spots to snap some pictures on the way. I guess we were lucky to take the last tour of the day, as there wasn't a ridiculous amount of people going either way. Once you get to the end of the upstream paddle, the ride back is a breeze. You just have to figure out how to steer and to back paddle to slow down. You can get some really good pictures and take in the scenic views during this time since you don't need to paddle against the current. Our guide took some nice pictures and videos of us and provided them to us at the end of our trip. The initial part of the trip can be difficult, but if you work through it and figure things out, the tour was enjoyable.

We went back with the whole family a few months later and did a windsurfing/ sailing camp. The instructors are all very good but learning from Susie and Tinho is a real treat! Tinho is the master, on the cover of lots of windsurfing magazines and books and will make you fall in love with the sport. Their passion for the sport is contagious and he has a way of making the kids believe they can do anything! Love that! Had all three of my kids hanging off the side of the sailboat in harnesses and loving it. And by the end of the camp, they felt very comfortable on the board and begged for more... cheering when we told them we purchased a board for the summer. Highly recommend Calema!

I had previously been to SoBe Surf Shop with a friend after we took a SUP lesson by the shop's owner, Girard, after she purchased her board from him. When she purchased her board, it included a free lesson and she was able to bring a friend. I was so glad she let me go along because even though we had both been paddling for several months, we both knew our technique could use some work and Girard's instruction definitely helped! Our lesson took place a couple of miles from his shop at the Brevard Vererans Memorial in a little Cove just behind the memorial. The lesson itself was great - there were only three of us so after giving us a brief lesson, Girard took the time to watch our paddle technique and make suggestions for adjustments so we were able to practice and immediately get constructive feedback. Girard was very patient and clear in his instruction and by the end of our session I was able to fix the issues with my paddle technique. The shop itself isn't anything fancy, but it serves its purpose. He has a number of different stand up paddleboards in stock, and carries high quality brands ar various price points so you should be able to find one that is perfect for you. My friend and I had both done quite a bit of research on the type of board we wanted and what features were important to us. Girard is incredibly knowledgeable and great at explaining the differences in the boards and how they affect it's use. He carries boards that are perfect for touring, racing and yoga. He is not a pushy salesman at all, which I loved. He also carries different accessories like leashes, paddles, waterproof cases, car racks, apparel, and even ukeleles!! After my friend purchased her SUP, I was pretty sure I wanted the exact same one and Girard was great answering any of my questions either by phone call or text messages. He was always quick to respond. Once I was ready to purchase my board, he let me put a deposit down (using my credit card) on the SUP I wanted. I had also talked to him about my need for a soft rack pack for my car and he ordered one to keep in the shop, but said there was no pressure to purchase it. My board package came with a leash, carbon fiber paddle, and cover bag. I also ended up purchasing the soft rack pack for my car. Girard was so helpful, teaching me how to install the racks and load my board safely and securely. I got home via highway roads with no concerns or issues about the safety of my board on my car while driving 70mph! Check out the shop's website for more information about his tours and lessons as well as information on SUP techniques. The website is very useful. https://sobesurf.com Based on my personal experience with Girard on the lesson and purchasing a new SUP from him, I definitely recommend contacting him if you're in the market for a SUP, want to take a guided tour, or a lesson. I live in Winter Garden, FL and making the road trip to purchase a board and lesson from him is well worth the drIve!!!
