I don't like this Screpesi's shop. This was the first of their chain to open. This place is horribly unorganized. There's no parking. I remember I went in there to pick up an order and it was like complete chaos. It felt like a bread line and people fighting over food. There was no organization or line direction. Finally when I was able to make it up to the counter to pick up my order I paid and left. I got home and the pizza was cold and my sandwich was wrong. I was in here about a month ago and was very disappointed. To start, I called in ahead of time and they told me 20 minutes. When I arrived to pick up my order I was asked to wait in line. This took about 10 minutes. When I finally got there to pick my order up, they said it will be 10 more minutes as it was never made. I am not one to complain but with a short lunch break from work I was pretty upset by this. Why bother take my phone order and give me a time to pick up. You can add double meat to any sandwich if you are extra-hungry, too. Screpsie's made a horrible first impression on me. My boyfriend and I came in and each ordered an Italian sub. We each got ours a little different and the woman did not write anything down. She couldn't have messed up the sandwiches more! We both ordered hard rolls, she was about to make one on soft. We both ordered oil and vinegar, and she didn't put any on! They were so dry. I also said no peppers and she smeared some pepper spread on mine. There were a few other mistakes she made as well. We got half pieces of cheese, and the only meat we got on ours was some kind of Bologna and salami-that's not an Italian???! Sorry to say but I probably wouldn't come back here. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that there are a lot of young kids that work there who usually end up working slow, not remembering the order, and a lot of times messing it up. This place is my favorite sandwich ever! Their tuna or meatball subs never disappoint. My only complaint is their sanitary practice, I really wish the employees would wear gloves when handling the food. Whenever I go in to get something to eat it always freaks me out seeing the ladies handle the cold cuts and other ingredient and then touching money. They don't wash their hands in between just go back and forth from money to making the food, if they would be more mindful of this, I'd rate the place 5stars! Oh and they don't have pickles! I don't know why everyone in this area thinks they are so great. Just because they have been around for generations doesn't mean the food is quality or decent. The Italian Subs are NOT a 'classic Italian' if you are someone who thinks they are, go to Philly and try to order this awful Italian sub and they will laugh at you. I specifically said light onions on mine, only to come back to work from a 30 minute wait in line to remove a large amount myself. Tuna subs are ok, but I'll honestly probably go to Wawa for a Tuna from now on because it's cheaper and not such a sloppy mess. My father grew up with the original owner of this place. I believe his name was Pat. They were very good friends. I grew up in Memphis, Tn but anytime we are back in Reading we have to go get an Italian sandwich from this place. By far the best sub I have ever had. I have many happy memories of this place as a child. If it's any testament to the food here I will share a story. I went to this restaurant when I was about 12. Years later I returned to visit family without my father. I was probably about 18. I found this place by memory without any help. That's a powerful hoagie if you ask me. read more

I have lived in the lancaster area now for about 23 yrs, my stepfather told me about screpsis in reading & how he went there years ago as a boy as he grew up in the area, I tried that location & was satisfied with what seemed to be a good old fashioned hoagie & good customer service. I was even happier when I discovered they had opened a store in the Mohnton, pa. area which is a lot closer to me than reading. we went there several times & were pleased, the last time we went & got sandwiches they didn't seem to have the good flavor as before, the girl who made the sandwiches was in a hurry & just slapped them together quickly. we decided to call them to let them know our disappointment & was told by an employee that someone would contact us, we tried back two other times & were told the same thing, we never received a call back from anyone, & now we will never go back again, it seems like they aren't concerned with their customer satisfaction, we have contacted other businesses before when not fully satisfied & have received phone calls& letters from the owners & even coupons to rectify our dissatisfaction, this surely is the way to keep customers comming back, not by ignoring them, that's the way to go out of business. read more
