There is an administrative fee for obtaining your medical records of $40, they are legally only allowed to charge for the copy and the labor of the receptionist. I originally wanted a sleep study and for a doctor diagnosis of this, which is her job was going to be $55.00. According to California state law, section 123110, a patient is available for one free copy of their medical record that includes the diagnosis. They can be charged 0.25 a copy. If you have a victim about this, you can do your research and sue her and she would have to pay for the lawyer fees. When I brought this up about the administration fee, dr. Rosemarie rohatgi said that it costs money for receptionist to print records. I then replied that it is part of her job, and she says that she has to pay her to do that. Additionally, she cannot charge for medical records for government programs like the VA. Military members don't fall for this.

I have had insomnia for two and a half years now. It's really affected my ability to be productive,…read moremy focus, my mood, my energy levels, and my ability to regenerate my health during REM. Since I am on Medi-Cal, my PCP referrals are to mental health providers that rely heavily on prescribing mood stabilizers and other serotonin inhibitive drugs. I don't want sleep by being doped up on tranquilizers. I was excited to find the Insomnia Center, hoping for a real cure or healthier approaches to my sleep issues. But when I spoke to the receptionist, I was simply told flat out that they didn't accept my insurance, and to go to UCSD (scary!), and given NO other referrals or suggestions as to where else to look for a healthy alternative. The receptionist seemed very stressed and desperate to get off the phone. I'm disappointed, and let down, but mostly, just very very tired. I hope others haven't had this experience.

I'm leaving this review based on my experience as a potential patient trying to coordinate a TMJ…read morereferral. My referral was originally sent to Dr. Chase Bennett's office on July 22. When I called on August 3, I spoke with Megan and was told the referral had not been received. I provided my information by email and contacted my primary care provider's referral department to have it resent. Megan called me again and told me they still had not received the referral. She also said their benefits office could not see an authorization from TRICARE and that my provider's office had not sent one. I explained that my patient portal showed the referral as authorized and that I had also confirmed the authorization directly with my insurance. At that point, I was genuinely trying to understand where the disconnect was, especially since the referral had already been faxed twice. I asked whether Megan could contact my provider's office so the two offices could determine what was happening. Instead of helping me troubleshoot the issue, she told me I was "not listening" to her and proceeded to explain how the referral and authorization process works. When I asked if she could call the office, she corrected me by saying, "I can't call the office, but I can talk to the referrals." Because I felt dismissed rather than helped, I asked if there was someone above her I could speak with. Her response was, "You can talk to my manager, but she's just going to tell you the same thing I'm telling you." The tone of the conversation felt unnecessarily condescending, especially when I was simply trying to figure out why an authorized referral that had been faxed twice was not reaching their office. I ultimately called my primary care provider's referral department myself and explained what had happened. Their representative contacted Megan directly. During that conversation, Megan explained that the office is not currently accepting TRICARE patients for TMJ and is only accepting TRICARE for sleep apnea. My provider's office was then able to move forward with redirecting my referral. After that conversation, Megan left me a voicemail apologizing for the miscommunication. She explained that she had thought I was seeking an oral appliance for obstructive sleep apnea and clarified that their clinic is not currently contracted with TRICARE for TMJ. She recommended that my referral be redirected so I could be seen elsewhere. I appreciate that she ultimately called to apologize and clarify what happened. However, that clarification also highlighted why the earlier interaction was so frustrating. I had been trying to understand exactly what was preventing my referral from moving forward. Instead of asking questions to clarify what treatment I was being referred for, I was told I wasn't listening, had the referral process explained to me, and was told that a manager would "just tell me the same thing." The issue ultimately wasn't that I didn't understand the referral or authorization process. There had been a misunderstanding about the reason for my referral, and the clinic was not currently accepting TRICARE for the TMJ care I needed. Had that been clarified when I first contacted the office, my provider could have redirected the referral without the repeated calls, confusion, and unnecessary stress. As someone managing Stage 4 cancer and other chronic health issues, coordinating medical care already requires a significant amount of time and energy. I understand that insurance issues and misunderstandings happen, and I don't expect front-office staff to control those circumstances. What I do expect is respectful communication and a genuine effort to help someone who is trying to access care. Being spoken to as though I simply wasn't listening when there was, in fact, a misunderstanding on the office's end was particularly upsetting. I never became a patient of this practice, so I cannot speak to the quality of Dr. Bennett's clinical care. I can only speak to my experience trying to become a patient. While I appreciate the eventual apology, the way the initial interaction was handled left me feeling dismissed rather than assisted.

JEN CHANGED OUR LIVES! We feel like we have a whole new lease on parenting after working with her…read moreand we couldn't be more grateful. My husband and I are new parents to the most perfect little girl...who just didn't know how to sleep at night. She was a great daytime sleeper but would regularly wake up 8-10 every night. We were desperate for sleep and finally hit a breaking point around the 7 month mark. Side note: Intense sleep deprivation is truly no joke, and I am sending all of my love and strength to the moms and dads out there that are going through it right now (there is hope, and it's in the form of Jen Varela!). We started working with Jen at the end of May, and right away I appreciated the knowledge and care that Jen brought to her approach. As a first time mom, I didn't want to use the cry-it-out method and was happy to hear that was not her go-to strategy. We started with a much gentler approach that was developmentally appropriate, and although we did see some slight improvements in those first few weeks, we weren't making the progress we were hoping for. We started losing hope and were certain that we were going to be the first clients that Jen couldn't solve for. We were ready to give up and just accept our fate as walking zombies, but Jen never lost hope and always had another method up her sleeve. Fast forward to today and we are going on over a month of our baby girl both putting herself to sleep and sleeping through the night. We no longer have anxiety about bed time and are able to have some time back in our evenings. And we go to sleep confident that our girl has the skills to soothe herself when she wakes up! We are honestly still in disbelief that this is our new life. We went from getting 2-3 hours of fragmented sleep a night to now getting a full night's rest. It has completely reshaped our parenthood journey and our mental health for the better. We are SO grateful for Jen -- she has truly changed our lives! We know that baby and toddler sleep is ever-evolving and will change with time, but she has armed us with knowledge and tools that have given us confidence in the road ahead -- and we know that she's only ever a phone call away when we need her. THANK YOU JEN!!! We may have to name our second child after you in a show of gratitude.

Jen was amazing throughout the process. She was patient, accommodating, and extremely knowledgeable…read moreduring our calls together. I wanted to find an alternative to cry it out method and Jen was the perfect solution. While there were a few tough nights Jen was by our side through and through. What I noticed was Jen didn't treat this like a gig or just going through the motion. She was genuinely invested and that's why I would recommend her to anyone who wants to find an alternative sleep training that moves at the pace of your child. If I went back in time, I would hire her again in a heartbeat. By graduation, my baby was able to sleep in the crib through the night! P.S. Jen we love you! Thank you again for everything!!
