You probably won't see too many 5 star ratings, when it comes to SDG&E, but I stand FIRMLY, behind this one, I'm about to give. Some people might not appreciate where I'm coming from and some, might even resent, what I'm gonna say and that's fine. I get it. I don't blame anyone who does resent me or my reason, for their 5 star review. The type of service they gave me, in my time of need, made a huge difference in my life-whether anyone believes people deserve breaks or not. SDG&E helped me with my payments, this past year, under strict guidelines. I followed them and am NOW, almost out from under that dark cloud and I couldn't be more grateful to them for that. I'm sorry, to the people who get upset, when they think they are paying for someone else's FREE RIDE. The ride wasn't completely free, but it was manageable. I was able to have a balance, that wasn't a Goliath, but would still keep me paying, but ON TIME. I appreciate how they heard me out and then helped me out, in the most human way. Like the majority of reviewers here I am with them. I called about an exposed wire I found at my home. Their automated system is a pain to navigate to get a live agent. It took 3 calls in 12 hours to figure out what happened. The first call they sent a tech out noting a 2 hour wait time. They would call when en route. I step out of my home for 20 minutes right after. The tech showed up as I was out and called when he was on my property and my phone rang once with no call back number. I find out later he reported he saw the supposed wire and identified it's not theirs. It's totally my problem tough luck. This boggles my mind as the wire was behind a locked fence. So he either peeked through the fence and saw that at a distance or he trespassed in my back yard without my permission to look at it. Both methods sound inefficient and one sounds illegal. When I find this out the agent I spoke to the next day kept parroting the info the tech supposedly wrote up. They would not have told me any of this had I not followed up. Long story short SDGE loves taking your money at higher rates annually and giving crap customer service. They know they can do it because they're the ones running the electricity! They have this 'program' where they come and take all your normal light bulbs out and replace them with the harshest and brightest LEDS- so bright you can't even see when you turn the lights on. Forget doing your makeup or reading- or really anything that requires light. They also took out my shower heads and replaced them with the cheapest POS that doesn't even put out a stream of water- and it has an emergency shut off that turns the water off on you while you're trying to rinse off your soap. If I could give zero stars I would. So here's the latest SDGE scam. For the past three months each of my bills has a "past due" amount that cannot be explained by the call centre. On the billing landing page on the website, there is one amount. Then on the PDF there are two different amounts on two different pages. This "past due" amount showed up after I got a bill for -$17 based on the application of the Climate Credit. The call centre has absolutely NO explanation of how this "past due" amount was calculated. Each time I call they say: OK we will adjust and remove it from your bill. Refresh the page and it looks as if it's been "adjusted." Paid the "adjusted amount." Next bill the "past due amount" shows up again. Call in, same palaver about "adjustment", next month, same "past due" amount showing. And the gall to "warn" me of potential "service disruption." So in order to not have a "service disruption" I end up paying the amount that include the mysterious inexplicable "past due" amount that keeps showing up in various amounts on various pages of the website, the billing detail and the PDF version of the bill. The "past due" is "small", around $10 maximum. However it keeps showing up and I keep paying it. When I ask to have my call escalated to the Billing Department, I am told: "they do not speak to customers." Well. How's that for immunity from transparency? Despicable. Highest rates in the country, no oversight from the Public Utilities Commission, constantly increasing rates, constant power outages, and they also connect their grid to the Mexican nationalised electrical grid in Ensenada. This means that the high price electricity we pay for is being brought in from another country who has a nationalised electricity industry. On top of all this they have the gall to try to convince us that it's not their fault. No, it's because people are turning to solar, it's because of the Community Power option, it's because the 3I Atlas Comet came by and impacted pricing, it's because of some mysterious anomaly that will be on the next Stranger Things episode. But never because SDGE is simply a robber baron rip out monopoly with a complete lack of transparency and a clear disdain for its customers. Well. There's my rant against them for today. Been ranting for years as have millions of customers. But no amount of ranting, meetings, demands for accountability, nothing, seems to reign them in. All day yesterday 6/10 SDGE were installing a new poll two houses away, then at 1am our power went out. We could see the workers with lights and hear them talking. So I tried to call SDGE to find out what was going on. They lied to me and said there was an accident near by and the power would be out until 4am. When people are getting new service DO NOT transfer them to some outside agency to try and get them other services. I was told I was being transferred to get further discounts. I thought this was a different department for the cares program. Little did I know it was a high pressure salesman that stressed me out and got all my personal information. I ended wasting 45 min of my time ,being late for work, and getting signed up for AT&T internet I didn't want. I told the salesman several times I wanted to think about. He wouldn't take no for an answer. I spent several more hours stressed out and had to take hours of my day to cancel. Sad thing is when I called AT&T directly to confirm it was canceled the high pressure sales started again. They tried to put it in my husband's name; then wanted his phone number to pressure him. This is after being told we are going with a different company. I finally had to hang up just to be called back. I don't know if you're getting a kickback or what. DON'T DO THAT TO PEOPLE. Do not transfer people unless they start asking for other services. I'll most likely be canceling my account and have my husband put the utilities in his name. How do they think it's ethical to double our bill prices when the usage stays the same?!?! We barely use our heater and somehow my gas use this month is projected to be $400. The worst part is the City forces you to only use this company with no alternative options, so naturally there is no competition or incentive to keep prices down. There is no true way to monitor your use, they are unclear what's on peak versus off peak hours, and their customer service is horrendous if you have to contact them. They have investors and are expected to make them money. This all leads to SDG&E having the worst infrastructure, lines and power grid held together with duct tape and bailing wire because they put profits and million dollar salaries over properly running a safe electrical grid. So the results since 2018-2019 are what they call Public Safety Power Shutoffs. What a great way to spin their incompetence! I read that SD's regional utility company will be raising rates for its customers by another 3% in the near future. This comes after last year's cost recalibration of the tiers which are dependent on usage at certain times of the day. I wonder if the increases are being implemented to offset the liability they had incurred for the wildfires from a few years ago. The rolling blackouts that occurred last August were disappointing, to say the least. We have experienced more intense summer heat waves in the past without needing such a drastic measure. I happened to have just finished dining outside at a restaurant on a Friday evening when the electricity suddenly shut off for that neighborhood. Those businesses were already struggling with fewer customers during this pandemic, and now they had no juice to maintain their operations. How can the demand forecast be so poor that power had to be cut off to alleviate the burden? You would think with more people converting to solar panels that the system should be able to handle the load. There was a headline today saying that 11,000+ customers may lose their service starting tomorrow because of high winds and low humidity in the forecast. It's the middle of winter in January, yet these public safety shutoffs are taking place. I feel sorry for those people who live further inland as they will be repeatedly affected each time the Santa Ana conditions pop up no matter what time of the year it is. read more
