I wish I could give a ZERO star rating. I work for Management Solutions property management company and I deal with SDG&E on a daily basis; they are an absolute nightmare on a business level. They consistently lose and/or misdirect documents, they've turned off power to our tenants and directed the bill to us (claiming it was requested by us, I assure you it wasn't), and when we reach out for business care support, they talk over us and rarely provide resolution in one call. Several reps and even supervisors have placed blame on our staff and our tenants, because Lord only knows, SDG&E reps are all-knowing perfection. It's evident their policies are unclear and inconsistent, and their staff are inadequately trained. SDG&E's business care support is chaotic, disorganized, and an incredible waste of everyone's time and payroll. read more

We are moving to in a week and I needed to setup service in our new apartment so I call SDGE at 8am today and I'm given the choice to hold for up to 53 minutes or to leave a callback number with assurances I won't lose my place in line. Naturally I chose the callback. Well 4 1/2 hours later I finally get the automated callback. I verified I was online by pressing 1 and was informed I would now be transferred to an available agent. I hear several tones, a click and then a dial tone. WTH!!! 5 minutes goes by and no callback, so I call back in and now I'm told the wait time for an agent or callback is between 4 and 5.5 hours!!! There is no getting around option. Fortunately I was able to setup service at our new location online. Update: It is now about 6:45 pm and finally get a call back. The agent says they were having phone problems. I guess it's possible they have crazy call volume with all the fires. Still only giving 3 stars since they do have my email address on file and could have emailed to let me know what was up. read more

It's amazing how many single-star reviews this company has. My own business (I own and Ace Hardware store) has a rating of about 4.7 stars, because I honestly care about the happiness of my customers. Ugh. SDGE changed their web site for paying my bill, more than doubling the complexity and inefficiency of doing so. As a result, the first time I tried to pay it I screwed up (and ended up paying twice apparently). So I called their support line. It took more than 5 minute of wasting MY time (which is apparently of no value whatsoever to this company), to finally get to a prompt that would possibly put me in contact with a live agent (because the automated system is worthless for doing anything other than checking balances and paying your bill). From that prompt I was informed that I would be on hold for 25 to 30 minutes. We'll see if that's an accurate estimate. Come on SDGE. Get rid of the automated system. It truly sucks. Customers only call you directly when they are having problems. Don't add to your customer's problems by making them/us wade through a ridiculous automated system, and then wait half an hour or more to talk to an agent. Geez. Come on SDGE! read more

Like many Californians, we bought solar several years ago when the state was encouraging people to do so to help with the brown outs. Now that so many of us have done this, we are being penalized by SDG&E. Like most working adults who work 8am to 5pm, we don't normally get home until 5 - 5:30. We are up until approximately 9:30 and go to bed so that we can get up and get to work in the morning. Being penalized for using electricity during the hours between getting home from work and going to bed is a crime! Unfortunately there are no affordable ways to disconnect from SDG&E or we would definitely do so!! This company is criminal in it's treatment of forced monopolized customers. I truly hope that Karma comes down hard on the greedy executives who trotted out this punitive billing structure. How can that happen without me personally calling to close the account or tell them we're moving? Then they tell me we're going to owe for the last 2 months while the account was closed and it's due right away. SDGE makes a mistake and I have to pay for it? Think twice about moving to San Diego. This is your only choice for electricity. SDGE are modern day mobsters. So glad we moved away. Prices are that of a car loan and most rent/mortgages. They price gauge during the time you need your a/c or heater and electricity the most. Peak times are during the hottest and coldest times, which also means when you get home from work you can't do laundry or dishes till after 9pm...that means lack of sleep for the next days work. My gawd don't ever think about cooking a hot meal either during peak times. If there is a smoke advisory because of fires, it's your health or pay out your ass! Oh and if you are evacuated from a fire, be prepared to pay even more during the time you are evacuated. God forbid I visit my relatives and ask them to use the A/C for my medically needy son. $100 won't even cover the extra electricity for the month. Solar..get solar you say....SDGE are changing their terms as well when it comes to that, you really don't get a break unless you were grandfathered in before solar started to get popular. A crew from Utility Tree Service, hired by SDG&E, recently entered my property to trim a neighbor's trees that were growing into power lines that run along our mutual property line. I was not home. Three days later I attempted to irrigate trees on my property, to find that my water had been turned off at a line valve. When I turned the valve back on, a fountain erupted at a major break in that line directly beneath the trees that had been trimmed. Repairs cost me a trip to Home Depot, the cost of parts and glue, and three hours of my Sunday. Neither Utility Tree Service nor SDG&E informed me that they would be entering my property, nor that they had broken my line and turned off the water. Being a monopolistic utility and their flunky subcontractor, I doubt either of them care. But I wanted to share their destruction and unprofessional behavior. The absolute worst. My bills have been $600- $1000 per month this year for a 2200 sf house. I didn't use the AC after mid-July at all. I'm hanging my clothes outside. D/W is used 3 times per week. Turning off lights vigilantly. What more can I do? I feel like we're back in the 70s when there was only Bell Telephone. I've been using SDGE for years, up until today they have been great. I received a phone call today regarding my account saying they were going to terminate my service. I logged into my account while at work and while being on the phone with the field agent who was on his way to my house, noticed my bill was due 2 days ago, i had no overdue notice or anything. The field agent went on about confirming my address and had the wrong address but then continued to say that my house was on the list as well. (in the past at another house my roommate didn't pay the bill for over 6 months and we finally got a termination letter.) It has been two days since my bill was due. While being at work trying to meet deadlines now i'm sitting here worrying about my two dogs at home and all of my food going bad. The field agent said he can't stop unless he was given the authority meaning i had to call SDGE to figure this out. I'm currently STILL on hold after 40 minutes. I'm frustrated and not happy about this one bit. read more

This is the worst utility company ever. I just got my bill that has almost tripled. The reason, i am told, is because my meter hasn't been read for over three months. Once it was I get a corrected bill for three times the amount it usally is!!!! This is after getting email notifications that my bill isn't ready. I recently upgraded to Solar energy on my roof. I've had a regular electrical and gas account for years, digital from the start, all paperless, all automatic electronic payment. In the process of "updating my account to a PV/Net Metering Customer" SDG&E automatically decided to kick my gas account out of the online payment/paperless setup I had, creating two separate accounts. I didn't know about it until I get a mailed gas bill. What is going on with SDG&E? Why would they make such a willful mistake? I emailed them, asking what happened, why they did it. Their response was typical, no clue as to what I asked, didn't want to admit their failure to be professional. Just saying my gas account now needed to be linked to my PV account. No instructions in the email how to do it. Hello! It was already linked until SDG&E delinked it. They failed to explain why they messed up my account without my permission, failed to apologize. SDG&E creates a problem, now they want me to fix their mistake. Really? Perhaps I should charge you for failing to do your job. Not a problem as emailed customer assistance is a lost cause with SDG&E. Will not give you a phone number. Trying to hide from their customers, knowing the low quality of service. job. Same for their website, trying to hide all their contact phone numbers. Have to get it off a bill. Then when you do call them, you get the standard "High volume of calls" excuse for the delay. Meaning all the bad service is keeping them busy. Hello SDG&E. A world-class phone system would give the caller the option to be called back when their turn comes, maintaining their place in the call que. Never realize how low quality their customer service is. When I finally did reach a SDG&E rep, they read the standard script saying the paperwork I received with my net metering application covered the account issues. I immediately informed the rep they were wrong; there was no account reconnection info in the mailings. Only information related to how to apply. When I asked why SDG&E does this, rep could not answer. When I did reconnect my gas account to my main account, all my usage data was gone, erased. Again, the rep didn't have a clue what was going on. Laughing at just how backwards our little 8th world utility company is. read more

Awful company, they come out to my property shut off my gas lock out the main. No Notice, no warning, then leave the property with out any notification. No notes on door no phone calls, this was Friday night August 31,2018. They just showed up Sunday night at 11:25 pm to take the lock off. No sorry, no explanation. They rip us off with outrages rates monthly. Then when they make a mistake no apologies, no we will try to do better. They are rude make excuses and treat us like puke. We have been trying to get through on the automated system since Saturday morning for help!!! We as citizens allow it, these monopolies, the governments etc. have way to much power. Its time for us to say enough, no more. You cant do what you want and then thumb your nose at us. We should be able to leave a negative rating for SDG&E. So, it's 2021, and SDG&E decides to "upgrade" their website! Wow! The new upgrade includes not being able to log in directly to "pay my bill" ---- you get a 404 error (page not available), when you enter your user name it is "grayed out" so you can barely see it, when you go to your "accounts" ---they have been removed, and when you call SDG&E because you are a responsible customer who pays their bills, you get an answering machine that admits "we are having high call volumes right now so use the website but if your accounts have been deleted because of our "upgrades" there are no account numbers available and since it is only 2021 and the internet and computers were just invented yesterday it will be 7 days before we can scream for help from anyone who can work on software and help us get a grip on reality!!!!! No one will be fired for this humdinger of a mistake, but simply promoted to the next level of incompetence. You're a complete embarrassment to the world! read more

By far the rudest and most unorganized company I have ever dealt with. My husband and I moved out of state about a year ago. Upon move out, we called sdge and cancelled services. They stated everything would be out of our names and we will have a final bill to pay within the following week. We paid the last bill, but continued to log into our account periodically just to make sure they wouldn't screw us (as we have heard horror stories regarding such). After checking for a couple months and seeing a $0 balance due, we figured we were good. NOPE. Now, a year later, we get a call from a collections company stating we never paid a $26(!!!) Bill from sdge a year prior (2 months after we moved out). We called sdge and they were very rude to us and stated we never cancelled services. Overall, we just ended up paying the bill because being sent to collections for a $26 bill (that wasnt even ours and we had NO clue existed) was embarrassing enough and we dont have time to deal with their bull shit. Just be aware when using this company. read more

Moved to a new home and needed to have electricity turned on. Due to COVID, no offices are open to be able to go in and get things going. Going online to SDGE didn't help either, since for some unknown reason you are unable to start or stop service online. You are forced to call their number, but after listening to their menu of options and clicking on numbers to get to the right dept, you then get to hear a long winded sales pitch to start level pay program, etc etc, and you don't even go in the que for a CS rep until that recording has played out. Doesn't get any better once you have a live person online. They are a block wall and certainly do not assist the person on the phone. In the end, I am forced to EMAIL my drivers license and SS card to them, after which it will take 48 hours to get the power turned on. What a monopoly! I hate them already and we haven't even started. In this day of ID theft being the #1 crime in the country, I can't believe that you are backed into a corner and have no choice but to send very sensitive information on that platform. I will hate paying them every single month in the future and if there is any chance to leave them and go with someone else, I will be first in line. read more

Well one of their technician home out to my home and fix it, but now I am stuck with a whole in my roof and to top it all off the technician told me that i was my problem not his... like what the heck are you dor real with rhis eifhr now..... I applied for a job with SDGE for their customer support representative in the call center. I passed all the tests, was called into the office for a walk through of the office. I was asked if i had any problems with the hours or days and I did not. Well after about 4 weeks of not hearing from them I finally contacted HR with an email. I got back a generic answer that they selected another candidate. I really think it had to do with my age. They wont hire anyone over 50 years old. Of course they wont admit this because they could be sued, but that's what i think the reason was for not hiring me. I had all the qualifications they were looking for and had passed all the assessments. Loss on their end. read more

Most of the time, I can walk in pay my bill and be out in just a few minutes. I've never seen any long lines. Some of us old timers still like to walk in and see a smiling face. I do pay some of my bills online, but prefer the person to person. People are much more interesting then a computer. This is the textbook example of why monopolies do not work. Because they have no competition in San Diego, they can do whatever they please to their customers without any sort of penalty. Last night they decided to turn my neighborhoods power off for 8 hours for a supposedly planned maintenance project, but didn't even try to inform the people that it was taking place. This unexpected outage nearly cost me my final, as my laptop battery died, and spoiled $90 worth of groceries I purchased literally hours before. I can't even complain to them on their website because it is obviously another cheap and lousy service of theirs, so I'm taking these complaints public on here. SDG&E needs to warn their customers or be willing to compensate them for the food they loose to an 8 hour power outage and potentially the money people lose from not being able to do their jobs or college class assignments.
