My friend and I have known each other for over 30 years but only recently learned that we both dive and we decided on Key Largo and Sea Dwellers Dive Center. Since it had been about 8 and 12 years since either one of us had gone diving, we took a refresher course in our hometown, bought new rash guards and wetsuits and we were so excited! When we booked a two-tank dive, I asked how many dive masters or guides would be going down with us and was told NONE!! BUT they offer a guide for $75 per person which we felt was necessary in our case. Once on the boat, we were astounded to find out that Emily wasn't our own personal guide - a couple who had logged over 100 dives EACH and a Marine were going to be in our group. Once in the water, I had trouble staying down, even though I had told the crew how much weight I used in the fresh water pool for the refresher course. Emily said she added weights to my BCD but I didn't feel or see her do anything. She motioned me to go up and once we got to the surface, she sent me to back to the boat!! I was in the water for less than five minutes. No other effort was made to add more weight, no helping me, nothing. Our next dive spot was just a few minutes away and the water was so rough, most people didn't stay down long, and I didn't even bother to go in. Needless to say, we, will never go back and cannot recommend this place to anyone except those who have logged 100 dives or if you're a Marine. And then as we got off the boat, Emily had the nerve to ask me if I needed her Venmo information!! This "guide" did absolutely nothing to guide or help me and the crew didn't either. Wasted a whole lot of money. read more

Enjoyed our experience with Sea Dwellers Dive Center in Key Largo. My daughter and I are in the Keys for a couple weeks and signed up for Open Water Dive certification. Our instructor, Alan, did an amazing job of making us comfortable in the water and with the equipment involved in diving. The instruction in the pool and before each of the four required dives was thorough and we were well prepared prior to submerging. On the boat out and back from Molasses Reef, the crew including Katie and Capt. Russell kept everything moving and gave pertinent information on boat and reef information. This is the second time our family has dove with Sea Dwellers. 5/5 experience both times. Art, our diving instructor, was one of the most friendly and thoughtful people we have run into - I would go back to Sea Dwellers just to dive with him again. He was able to show us a nurse shark, scorpion fish, giant puffer fish, sea turtle, lobster, and much more. The boat crew, specially Matt and Brad, were especially helpful throughout the day as well. Two days of stellar diving with Sea Dwellers! I booked some dives with them because they got great reviews online and the prices were reasonable. On November 29 and 30, 2023, the seas were choppy (huge swells) which limited where Capts Doug (29th) and Russ (30th) felt comfortable taking us. While this limited where we could go, I appreciated their respect for nature and concern for safety. So we dove Pickles Reef on the 29th and Hole in the Wall on the 30th. All four dives were great! Shout out to Ash - my DM for my Pickles Reef dives!! She rocks, is super knowledgeable of the aquatic life and a fantastic guide! Together we killed a lionfish (its invasive in the Keys), saw a HUGE hawksbill turtle. Seeing this turtle made me feel like I was in World 4 (Giant World) in SMB3 (that's the original NES for you young'uns) - this was the largest turtle I've ever seen! We saw spiny lobster, southern rays, jelly fish, various sponges and sea fans, a HUGE moray eel, several types of gorgeous fish and the remnants of a small wreck. The next day, having been excited by my recap of Day 1, my wife decided to come out with us and snorkel. I buddied up with a fellow diver, Max and we went exploring Hole in the Wall. Saw some reef shark, a huge nurse shark, several smaller turtles eating jelly fish and more moray eels. Good times under the sea! It was a great experience from start to finish. The boat was great - spacious, a fresh-water tank to rinse gear. The equipment was new and in great shape. The four cylinders I used were in great shape - no valve damage. Corey and the crew were awesome on both days and Kiera in the office got all the business and paperwork done like a boss! To commemorate the experience, I bought my new favorite sweatshirt! Next time my wife and I are in Key Largo, I'll be diving with Sea Dwellers!!! read more

Loved our snorkle with Sea Dwellers! They were very professional, took us to two areas that were fairly close together that were good for both snorkelers and scuba drivers. Our boat had a good mix of both. It was deep enough the scuba divers had a great dive but there were shallow areas that were great for the snorkelers. This dive shop is among the dozens of operators you'll find in the Keys. They have been in business since 1970 and really know what they are doing. The staff, Captains, 1st mates and dive masters are friendly, outgoing, professional and yet funny and amusing at the same time. The dive boat is beautiful and has many of the comforts of an upscale dive boat. Plenty of spare equipment, water tubs to rinse your gear, and room to move about. Captain Russell, dive master Leslie and the entire crew made for a fantastic 4 dives. (2 tank each) For scuba divers, they know the best locations for shallow (less than 40' deep) scuba diving and snorkeling. Their shop, located about 1,000 feet from the dock is well stocked and has all the goodies one could need. You can't go wrong with Sea Dwellers. read more

They booked small children along with divers on a dangerous trip with a large dive ladder banging in the waves and no other way to get back onto the boat. The captain did nothing and although he acknowledged the dangerous conditions he said it was the operators fault. We aborted our second dive and all snorkeling for the kids. read more

I booked and pre-paid for a dive trip weeks in advance. I became I'll and could not dive. I tried to cancel prior to the dive. There was zero refund, and they wanted 25% to reschedule. No apology- it was a very uncomfortable atmosphere when I went in to cancel. It's really a shame. I had the best time and can't wait to go back to Key Largo because of Sea Dwellers and our teacher, Nick R. My boyfriend and I flew into Orlando, went to Universal, Islands of Adventure, Disney, drove to and visited the Everglades, and then Key Largo (SCUBA), Islamorada (partyboat fishing), and Key West (southernmost point of the USA). And my favorite thing - out of all the things - was diving in open water with Sea Dwellers. So some background: I barely know how to swim. Like that's the entire story! 3rd grade summer, my parents enrolled me in one of those don't-die-in-a-pool workshops at day camp. As an adult, I go to the beach, basically every summer weekend, and use a float board. So obviously, SCUBA cert was not my idea! Open water cert is an investment - time and money. My boyfriend wanted a full cert, even though I was trying to push more affordable options. In the end, I am so glad we did the cert, because once you're in open water, you want to do it again and again! We're already looking at diving closer to home, in Virginia Beach. So to get to open water you need to do A LOT of online school by yourself, pool sessions with your teacher, and take a paper test that's graded by your teacher. The first 2 sessions for us were pool sessions. I felt so VIP because it was me, my boyfriend, and our teacher. We got a lot of personal care and attention. Once I put on the fins and snorkel gear, I immediately felt more comfortable swimming. Where has this gear been all my life!? I can swim! First our teacher, made sure I could do laps, which I could with the help of gear. From there, SCUBA school officially started and we started to learn all the things and practice all the things. I won't take you step by step and write a book here cause online school will take you step by step. I'll just say, I started out being really scared, but in the end our teacher helped me and educated me, so that when we were on the boat, in open water, I was able to jump and do that giant stride - into the ocean, with no fear. And I had the time of my life seeing BEAUTIFUL THINGS: sharks, eels, colorful fish, reefs, turquoise shades of water, and more! I'll never forget how special it felt, when a school of black and white fish were swimming next to me! Like I was a fish too! Ha! For my 4th open water dive, the water was kind of choppy so getting back to the boat was hard for me. Nick was very helpful to get me to a safe spot where I could get back onto the boat. I always felt safe. That was a big part of this whole experience, too. Being able to trust all of the staff, to help if I needed help. Sea Dwellers is a great dive shop. I would give them more than 5 stars, if I could! 100 stars!!! read more

I just had a fantastic 3 days diving with these folks! Captain Russell, Matt, Nate, Ashley, Rocky, and Kiera were all fantastic, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone had a good time! We were lucky to have fantastic weather on our dive trips, but even when the water got choppy we had a great time. Captain Russell made sure to adjust dive plans whenever necessary to make sure conditions were good. All of the boat crew were super helpful getting us in and out of the water as well. We dove at Molasses Reef, Pickle Reef, The USS Spiegel Grove, the USS Bentwood, French Reef, And Sand Island. Everything was gorgeous and we loved getting to see all of the wildlife. I took my scuba course through a different outfit on the island, but they made arrangements with Sea Dwellers to use their boat. My experience with Sea Dwellers encompasses two dive trips i used to get my open water cert. Although I don't have anything to compare with, I think on both trips the crew was entirely top notch - knowledgeable, well equipped, customer-service oriented, and highly professional while fun at the same time. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again, and I can only hope future dive boats do as good a job as they do. read more

It had been over a year since my last dive, due to the COVID, so I had to dive with a guide. I wasn't thrilled at first, but I understood why. My guide, Nate, was the bomb. He did everything by the book and emphasized safety. He made the dive fun and when I return I'm going to ask for him to dive with me again. Really enjoyed my visit to key largo and Sea Dwellers. Safety is a priority for them. I wanted to do Christ of the Abyss but the day of decided there was too much current/chop and was not amenable to scuba. Instead we were taken to Molasses Reef which was beautiful. Also they were very accommodating and friendly. I locked my key in the rental ALONG WITH my scuba gear. I was scheduled for the first tour but they allowed me to reschedule for the next while I got a locksmith to retrieve my keys and scuba gear. Friendly front desk as well! Will use them again for further scuba adventures! read more

We loved our snorkel trip with Sea Dwellers. Russell and Matt were awesome and made the trip really fun and relaxed, and the whole staff was super accommodating. We saw fantastic sea critters including a hammerhead, sea turtles, nurse sharks, and rays. For 3+ hours and lots of time in the reef, it's a great deal (especially if you book through groupon). There are so many snorkel/dive companies in the Keys, but this one really stood out in experience, customer service, and value. Would totally book again. read more

I have been diving off and on since 1999 and had 4 new students with me on this trip to finish their check out dives. I must say this was one of if not the best experiences diving I have ever had. From Brian in the front office, to Captain Burmy and Russ this is a top notch organization. Dive instructors / guides Allen and Matt did a great job with the new divers getting through skills quickly and precisely and allowing all of the divers time to explore the wonderful diving in Key Largo. The boat was good, everything was on time, the shop was clean and everyone moved efficiently. Couples notes of improvement: (a) give an introduction to the wildlife we might see at each dive site, and (b) increase the gap between the two dives which felt rushed and did not allow to relax in between. read more
