Eric and Carrie treated us like friends and through our conversations, we actually learned a lot about Kauai marine lives and more! And here's what I entered into my dive log book for reference :) Amazing first dive!! Eric and I dropped down at the deep end at 64 ft, then gradually made our way cruising up the reef. The marine lives were amazing. We saw two white reef tip sharks, a rare Guineafowl puffer, an elusive octopus that squirted ink on us as it tried to escape, an impressive size moray eel, a few turtles, lobster, and many other marine animals that I couldn't remember. Eric has an amazing ability to spot well camouflaged marine lives and I'm very thankful for his encyclopedic knowledge of Hawaiian fishes once we surfaced and Eric shared interesting history and information about the local marine ecosystem. The visibility of the second dive was amazing! The coral shelf was colorful and impressive, with lots of big corals that look super pretty and healthy. Before the dive, Eric spoke about invasive species and one of the notorious ones in Kauai is called the Crown of Thrones starfish, which is a super scary looking starfish with venomous thorn-like spines all over its body. They eat corals!! I asked Eric if we might see one, and he said he will try to look for one. And voila!! We stumbled upon a smaller one but it looks scary enough. Eric explained that one needs to be caught and killed with special training and equipment because its spikes are venomous and it would spawn when under attack, which might cause a bigger problem for the coral reef. In addition to the scary starfish, we also saw lobster, green turtles, and at the end of the dive, a very hard-to-spot but very cool to look at frog fish. I don't even know how Eric can spot it. It looks just like a piece of leave! Our boat was literally surrounded by green turtles when we all got back to the boat! All in all, another gorgeous dive!!

My two boat dives with Julie were enjoyable as well. The water was a bit choppy on the surface after a couple days of wind and rain and she did a great job of explaining what to expect, keeping the group together underwater and ensuring everyone was safe, enjoying themselves and seeing lots of cool things. Her enthusiasm is contagious and she has an amazing eye for spotting sea life - from a massive octopus, to turtles, harlequin shrimp, moray eels, domino damselfish and more. Scott was wonderful to work with when we started the planning process, as we were traveling with our 4 year old. Scott initially offered to take my husband and I separately down to dive while the other waited on shore with our daughter, which would have worked, but we chose instead to use Kaua'i childcare to have a nanny watch our daughter at a nearby resort pool via Resort Pass. We chose to do a private dive so that we could do two tank dives each (we dove together on both). Scott provided all gear including dive computers, masks, fins, snacks, and water! He had thought of everything to keep us comfortable and make the day run smoothly. The price was incredible considering the value of the experience! On the dive, we saw several green sea turtles, numerous types of eel including a dragon eel, probably up to 50 different species of fish including the rare fire angel fish, and an elusive harlequin shrimp. One of the best things about booking Kaua'i scuba adventures was that Scott was able to take photos of the dive for us and shared all photos and videos with us immediately after the dive! Yesterday we went on the most memorable deep sea fishing trip we could have ever hoped for. We are…read morein Kauai for our Anniversary/Babymoon and I'm very obviously 6 months pregnant. Jason was our captain and the three of us set out on a half day charter fishing trip on a day with 6ft swells. I was pleasantly surprised that he took my pregnancy in stride, checked on me throughout the trip to make sure I was okay, but never made me feel incapable. From the moment we stepped onto the boat, it felt like we were just hanging out with a friend. He showed us around the ocean, gave us some history of the island and taught me about the basics of deep sea fishing. I went on this fishing trip for my husband. I know nothing about boats or fishing terms but I felt totally comfortable. Jason was the most friendly, relaxed, down to earth, knowledgable, and passionate captain we could have ever hoped to take us on this trip. The moment the spools started spinning, we knew we had something huge on the line. Jason sprung to action, I took the wheel, and my husband took the reel, and Jason took the line. Jason was so coordinated in letting us both know what to do and when. It looked like a perfectly choreographed dance. His quick lesson on how to keep the line directly behind the boat made me feel confident when I took the wheel. After 22 minutes of a hard battle, the two of them reeled in approx 165 lb Yellowfin Tuna (we get the final weight today!). The entire time, Jason was leading us, but it felt like we were a team. From cruising around on the ocean, catching a tuna, to meeting his awesome Fiancé (owner of No Problem Charters)- the entire experience was something we will never forget. I can't imagine we would have come even close to this kind of experience on another charter. Lee is currently on maternity leave but you can see that her passion, knowledge, and personality are so similar to Jason and I have no doubt that when she gets back on the boat, she will give the same amazing experience as Jason. Cassie, our dive guide, was a great instructor for my young girls (11 and 13yo), to quote my daughter, "I learned so much, but it's like she just talks to you!" I will tell you as an open water, cave & wreck diver that the quality of the instruction was appropriate for the demands of this dive, and excellent. Cassies attention to safety was fantastic, and I was impressed by her ability to give an extremely knowledgeable wildlife tour AND keep my crazy kids together and safe. We went on to get the girls their PADI Open Water certifications with Watersports over the next two weeks. We dove a total of 6 times - incredible Honu, fish, eels, octopi - rare species that are only found here on Kauai. JUST INCREDIBLE. The quality of the instruction and guide service was consistent throughout. I saw many other services there at Koloa - Watersports was not cookie cutter, and spared everyone dry lectures while they were stuck in their wetsuits in the hot sun. Gregg, Cassie's father, is a total pro and keeps everyone safe. GREAT EXPERIENCE & GREAT PEOPLE 10 out of 10!

The catering for breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks was plentiful and great quality, with flexibility for those with dietary restrictions if you let them know ahead of time. The couple who run the business are so friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Also of all the places we've rented gear from, Bubbles Below had the nicest quality and best fitting wetsuits and fins for us! That really makes for a better dive experience. Could not recommend them enough :)

(Living with Covid series) A dive buddy invited me along to Kauai to dive, and the dive shop we…read morewere going to use was Bubbles Below. BB is a small business run by Clay (also boat driver) and Blondie (in the shop & bookings). The shop is located in Eleele, and the boat is based not 200 yards down the road at Port Allen Small Boat Harbor, both nearby Hanapepe. 3 days of diving would be too much in narrative format, so here are my impressions: Day 1. We started with 2 boat dives on Kauai's South shore to dive sites named Turtle Bluffs and Hale o Honu (House of turtles). Not too deep dives (60-70 feet max). We didn't see any pelagic sea life, but I'm content with the honu and things I haven't seen before. This time, it was the Hawaiian lionfish or turkeyfish (probably for the turkey-like plume of spikes it displays). They're an indigenous lionfish in Hawaiian waters, not the Indonesian lionfish that is such a pest in Florida, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean. As Hale o Honu suggests, this dive site was full of honu, all waiting their turn at the cleaning station (where small fish come out and eat the algae off their shells) Although I've been to a lot of honu cleaning stations before, this one had over 8 honu, a record for me! Day 2. A trip to dive Niihau was the highlight of the trip. 3 dives with enriched air ("Nitrox") off of Niihau. It was two very long boat rides, about 2 hours each. The afternoon return boat ride was very choppy, with several people getting sick. And Cap'n Clay said it was pretty calm, relatively speaking. But it was worth it! Excellent visibility, interesting underwater structures, and fascinating critters! The cherry on everything was the Hawaiian monk seals. It is said that Niihau has the largest Hawaiian monk seal population in the inhabited Hawaiian islands. We only saw two, but one came by the dive group. The seal came up close to one of the divers, and played with her bubbles from the back. The diver never even noticed! Day 3. These were two scheduled dives along the Na Pali coast. The first was called the Mana Crack. It's a section of the reef that developed a fissure on the floor. Stretching several miles, Mana Crack had a lot of interesting underwater structures. The dive guide found a couple of my favorite nudibranchs, the gold lace. We then headed up to the northwestern section of Na Pali for dive two, but inclement weather came in. We ended up back at Mana Crack. Second dive wasn't as interesting as the first, but it was alright. In summary, Bubbles Below is an excellent dive shop. Great people, fair prices, and some of the best underwater scenery in Hawaii! The snacks and sandwiches provided for the all day dives were tasty and a cut above the slightly stale warehouse club chips and cookies usually available on other dive boats. Definitely will repeat and recommend!
