Our first boat dive was actually our very first certified dive after getting certified, so I was definitely nervous But Anthony, our divemaster, was incredible. He guided us through the most amazing dive sites, helped us explore caverns, work on our buoyancy, and I got unbelievably close to my favorite sea turtles I got a little seasick because the waters were stormy and choppy during the first dive, but the whole crew encouraged me to get back in for the second one and I'm SO grateful I did because it ended up being one of my favorite dives ever. We loved the experience so much that we booked another shore dive with Cody and it was equally amazing. We got super close to the honus again, ended up right in the middle of a bait ball, saw a HUGE barracuda, and the most beautiful giant mushroom coral. Beyond the dives themselves, the people here were just sooo kind, encouraging, and welcoming. At one point they even gave Tim and me a thumbs up and said we didn't seem like new divers which honestly made our whole day Absolutely loved this shop and will 1000% dive with them again.

Scott was wonderful to work with when we started the planning process, as we were traveling with our 4 year old. Scott initially offered to take my husband and I separately down to dive while the other waited on shore with our daughter, which would have worked, but we chose instead to use Kaua'i childcare to have a nanny watch our daughter at a nearby resort pool via Resort Pass. We chose to do a private dive so that we could do two tank dives each (we dove together on both). Scott provided all gear including dive computers, masks, fins, snacks, and water! He had thought of everything to keep us comfortable and make the day run smoothly. The price was incredible considering the value of the experience! On the dive, we saw several green sea turtles, numerous types of eel including a dragon eel, probably up to 50 different species of fish including the rare fire angel fish, and an elusive harlequin shrimp. One of the best things about booking Kaua'i scuba adventures was that Scott was able to take photos of the dive for us and shared all photos and videos with us immediately after the dive! She's very experienced, knowledgable and put my mind at ease on shore and in the water. Felt incredibly safe diving with her and excited to explore the underwater wonderland of Kauai. My two boat dives with Julie were enjoyable as well. The water was a bit choppy on the surface after a couple days of wind and rain and she did a great job of explaining what to expect, keeping the group together underwater and ensuring everyone was safe, enjoying themselves and seeing lots of cool things. Her enthusiasm is contagious and she has an amazing eye for spotting sea life - from a massive octopus, to turtles, harlequin shrimp, moray eels, domino damselfish and more. We're a family of four (parents and two boys in late teens) who flew to Kauai from a visit in Maui for this dive experience specifically. We've done many of the other Hawaii dives (Molokini back wall, Lanai cathedral, Kona manta rays) and were hoping for something on the wilder side. Fathom Five delivered. The hard part is the "commute." It's a 2.5 hr boat ride (each way) from the pier in Poipu. The head on the boat wasn't working the day we visited, which was a scary prospect. But Fathom Five had the innovation of waterproof beanbags, which made the trips as relaxing and enjoyable as they could be. We thought Drake's attentive driving as we battled back into the afternoon trades helped a lot as well. Sean, our guide, was a true pro. He knew everything about the biology above and below water, the geology of the islands, and the history of Niihau. We dove Vertical Awareness first and immediately knew this was going to be special. We were met by an inquisitive sandbar shark as soon as we got to the bottom and soon saw our first (of probably a dozen) monk seals asleep and nestled into the wall. The visibility was essentially infinite. The layers of volcanic sediment result in crevices that are home to lobsters, eels, and nudibranchs. Bring a dive light. The second dive was the Ledges. The rubble from the collapsed wall of the crater is striking. I just remember thinking to myself while I was underwater, this is the best dive I've ever done. The final dive we did was the Arches. A little less visibility. A little less wildlife. But the swim-throughs might have made it the most memorable. Couldn't recommend this dive and these guys enough for a once in a lifetime experience.

Our…read moreinitial nervousness was instantly put to rest by certified diver Doug, whose knowledgeable overview of the Snuba equipment and friendly demeanor made the preliminary instruction session a breeze to complete. His business partner Josh was also patient and helpful, pointing out the abundant sea life and keeping us close to the group. At one point two green sea turtles swam along with us within touching distance (we didn't), my favorite moment out of many. We marveled at the plentiful species of colorful tropical fish, who darted around us as we explored their world. Unless you are already a certified diver, Snuba is an experience that you don't want to miss!

This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and is a must do. If you have experience…read morescuba diving it will definitely help. If you have never scuba dived before but are an experienced snorkeler, it's definitely doable but you'll need to get used to the breathing in and out and using the scuba tank before you can thoroughly enjoy the experience. It took me a few extra to get acclimated to the breathing part. If you're not sure at first, it's okay. Our tour guide, Doug and his team were really patient and walked us through it. Once we got acclimated to it, we spent about 25 to 30 minutes touring and they pointed out fish and certain things to see. We got to see some honu and Doug even took pictures/videos for us with our own underwater camera. They provide all the equipment including water shoes and fins. They even have some corrective masks if you're near sighted which helped.

Yesterday we went on the most memorable deep sea fishing trip we could have ever hoped for. We are…read morein Kauai for our Anniversary/Babymoon and I'm very obviously 6 months pregnant. Jason was our captain and the three of us set out on a half day charter fishing trip on a day with 6ft swells. I was pleasantly surprised that he took my pregnancy in stride, checked on me throughout the trip to make sure I was okay, but never made me feel incapable. From the moment we stepped onto the boat, it felt like we were just hanging out with a friend. He showed us around the ocean, gave us some history of the island and taught me about the basics of deep sea fishing. I went on this fishing trip for my husband. I know nothing about boats or fishing terms but I felt totally comfortable. Jason was the most friendly, relaxed, down to earth, knowledgable, and passionate captain we could have ever hoped to take us on this trip. The moment the spools started spinning, we knew we had something huge on the line. Jason sprung to action, I took the wheel, and my husband took the reel, and Jason took the line. Jason was so coordinated in letting us both know what to do and when. It looked like a perfectly choreographed dance. His quick lesson on how to keep the line directly behind the boat made me feel confident when I took the wheel. After 22 minutes of a hard battle, the two of them reeled in approx 165 lb Yellowfin Tuna (we get the final weight today!). The entire time, Jason was leading us, but it felt like we were a team. From cruising around on the ocean, catching a tuna, to meeting his awesome Fiancé (owner of No Problem Charters)- the entire experience was something we will never forget. I can't imagine we would have come even close to this kind of experience on another charter. Lee is currently on maternity leave but you can see that her passion, knowledge, and personality are so similar to Jason and I have no doubt that when she gets back on the boat, she will give the same amazing experience as Jason. We thought we would get small beach chairs. Nope, we got nice lounge chairs! The umbrella was a must as it will rain on and off. Also, it provides nice shade. We were close to restrooms, shops, and Duke's restaurant. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. We will book through them again.

Beach Boys catamaran sunset cruise…read more I arrived to the Nawiliwili Bay & Hulei'a River cruise boat slip to join the other passengers on a sunset cruise. This particular day, for whatever the reason, didn't have too many passengers. It made for a better cruise experience, in my opinion. After the normal safety briefing, we set off on the Kalapaki Kai II (smooth sailing gorgeous catamaran!) with the captain narrating the entire evening. While this was not a dinner cruise, we did enjoy a full service bar with light snacks during the evening. In my opinion, the cruise seemed uneventful and not very entertaining, but I am not necessarily interested in history, which is mainly what the captain spoke about during the cruise. He did a thorough job speaking about the Kauai scenery, fish ponds, mangrove trees, Haupu mountain range, Kalapaki Beach, the lighthouse, golf-course and Kauai's still-standing original hotel! We even watched numerous people surfing in the Nawiliwili Bay.... Can't say I'll see that anywhere else except Hawaii! The sunset was not anything to speak of the night of my cruise... but that is clearly out of our control! While I had a ho-hum evening... I will still highly recommend this sunset cruise! It was an incredibly smooth sail.... Short & sweet -- started at 5:30p and ended just as the sun set!

Mahi-mahi have been a rarity in Kauai's waters, so we felt like fishing royalty bringing that beauty in. By the end of the day, we were rolling in fresh ahi, a prized mahi, and memories that are already legendary in our family lore.
