When your family lives for fishing, booking a trip to Kauai comes with one major follow-up question: "Where are we deep sea fishing?" Enter HuntFishKauai, Captain Matt, and his mate Noah - the dynamic duo who made our fishing dreams come true. Our party of six showed up bright-eyed (but maybe not bushy-tailed, given the early hour), and Matt and Noah welcomed us aboard with big smiles, safety tips, and stories that had us cracking up before the sun was even up. Off to the buoy we went, braving the choppy waves. Noah suggested switching my brother's Spotify playlist to Hawaiian reggae for good fishing juju. We were mid-Bluetooth connection when BAM - first catch of the day! The fish must've loved the vibe, because soon we were reeling in ahi left and right. Things got real when a sneaky shark decided it wanted in on the action, snatching a nearly 25-pound tuna right off the line. Cue the gasp-worthy moment of the day as we all gawked at the shark trailing along the boat like a scene straight out of Nat Geo. Don't worry - the shark got its prize (sans hook) and swam off, leaving us with an unforgettable story. Speaking of unforgettable, my giant ahi took everything I had, but Noah coached me like a pro. The reward? A photo-op with my beast of a catch that I'm probably never going to stop bragging about. The grand finale? A monster mahi-mahi leaping 8 feet into the air behind the boat. My brother took the reins on this one, and Matt and Noah expertly wrangled the rare catch into the boat. Mahi-mahi have been a rarity in Kauai's waters, so we felt like fishing royalty bringing that beauty in. By the end of the day, we were rolling in fresh ahi, a prized mahi, and memories that are already legendary in our family lore. Back at the port, Matt's filleting skills were as sharp as his fishing expertise. His cooking tips? Even sharper. Let's just say our dinner that night was chef's kiss perfection. If you're looking for a fishing charter that's equal parts fun, expert, and downright thrilling, HuntFishKauai is it. Thanks, Matt and Noah, for giving us a day we'll be reminiscing about for years (and maybe decades) to come!

EXTRAORDINARY in every respect! Late January in Kauai is not noted for runs of any sought after species of fish. However; with Captain Matt and Co-Captain TJ, we boated 8 keepers. Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, MahiMahi, Aku. Caught fish belong to the boat, but Matt's generous nature prevailed and he filleted us dinner. The Captain and mate work extremely well together. A coveted skill set these days. Funny at times, all business when warranted. I'm a lifelong boater. I chose Hunt& Fish because they had a Hatteras & Bertram in their fleet. We fished on the Hatteras 35. It was a clean fishing battle wagon. Shimano Gold 150 reels and custom rods. New turbo diesels that made me a bit envious. Could not have been better. Although the seas were lumpy, we knew eventually we would find smoother water and we did. I will most definitely return!

Had a great trip with a father and son crew. They were kind and tailored the trip to what we wanted (tuna and ono). We were successful with tuna, but no ono (possibly a bite). Still some of the best tuna I've ever tasted and I loved being out in the water.

    It's a keeper!!

Thanks for an awesome day fishing in the ocean! My son and I really enjoyed his first fishing trip on a boat! It was a blast catching all those fish and taking home fish to eat!! Memories that will last a lifetime! Looking forward to another trip in the future!!! Thanks Again!

OUTSTANDING ! Booking with Cody was easy, informative and efficient (confirmed via email) Alapai & Matt took Great care of us out on the water !! There were plenty of cold sodas , waters & juice . A separate cooler with ice for all the stuff we brought. A very clean, Nice boat with a covered open cabin with pads on top of the coolers allowing us a place to comfortably sit out of the sun. They had plenty of Poles rigged and provided excellent instruction for those who had never been fishing . Best part .... we caught lots of Fish !! I give them my highest Recommendation ! ENJOY !

Chose these guys blind for a mixEd load charter. Experienced Capt. and good deckhand put forth great effort! Recommend

Took my boys out with the boys.... We were stoked with a perfect weather window. Everything went like clockwork which in our world is something that is not a "lock". Thank you guys for accommodate the youngsters! Looking forward to a return trip. Great operation Amazing crew Smiles all around Thanks again!

10/7/23 Our family had a blast. A day as sea, is better than any day on land! Thanks guys, we had an amazing time even though I didn't get my Marlin . Hope to see you all again soon!

Captain Duke and Deck Hand Sheldon took care of us during our recent afternoon outing. It looked like it was going to be a slow day of trolling but they swapped rig's and locations and we ended up with a successful day that yielded Amber Jacks and Skip Tuna Jacks. We brought some drinks and enjoyed the views and stories. Highly recommend if you're looking for an easy charter while visiting.

Deep Sea Fishing with HuntFishKauai with Matt and Sheldon was an amazing experience! Even without the huge fish biting, they really worked hard for us and we managed to get a few little fish for Reese, and a big smile outta the teen when he got a large AmberJack !! Oh and no one got seasick due to the magic of modern & alternative medicine lol. Next? The boys are dying to go Boar Hunting with Matt!! Highly recommend this outfit - I researched well in advance who to go through, and I'm glad I did! The private boat is a must for a family! And the fish tasted amazing the next day :)) Go early in your trip so you can enjoy the catch

Coming out during winter knowing that it wasn't peak season for fishing has turn out great for us. It was the experience that was worth it. We caught some fishes better then nothing. Taught us some salt water techniques and the types of fishing and good quality equipment's. 8 hours on the charter wasn't bad the day flew by fast. Crew was helpful and knowledgeable info. Having a toilet on charter was defiantly a must for us females. Thank you for taking us out for a ride. Mahalo!

Of the few times I've gone on a charted fishing trip, Hunt Fish Kauai tops them all. Great refurbished boat, lots of space, top of the line equipment, and as clean as a fishing boat gets! Alapai captained the ship while TJ crewed, and these guys had their jobs down to an art form. Efficient only begins to cover their skill level. The most exciting part of our 6 hour trip was the endless energy of these two, from 5:30am until the bitter end. They were more than willing to answer ANY questions we had about the boat, fishing, and the island. Hunt Fish Kauai puts their customers first. They're all about making their guests comfortable - ask about the bean bag! - and are extremely generous with each trip's catch. We had the fish gods on our side; on our 6 hour charter, we caught an Ulua (within 20 minutes of leaving the harbor), Mahi Mahi, and Stripped Marlin. I would take a ride with this crew every time I come back to Kauai!

    Amazing ahi!

Captain Max was incredible--his sense of humor kept us laughing even as the rain and mist rolled in. The two women on the crew (I wish I could remember their names) were fantastic, making sure everyone was comfortable and answering all our questions with a smile. The playlist on board was spot on, setting the perfect vibe. I wish I could find it on Spotify! Despite the weather, the views were breathtaking, and getting a little drenched just added to the adventure. The food was delicious, especially the smoked pork, salad, and fresh fruit, and my husband loved the mai tais. Even without the sunset, the whole experience was magical. After chatting with other travelers, I'm convinced we had one of the best tours available. especially after talking to a couple at our hotel pool who had paid more than we did and only got snacks limited alcohol. I can't recommend Holo Holo Charters enough, and I'm already looking forward to trying their breakfast or snorkel cruise next time. If you're looking for an amazing adventure, this is it!

Price was $250 per person and we booked a couple days before the tour date. (we went at the end of March - the weather was fantastic and not too hot, also not raining). Although it was pricey, I felt like it was worth the experience and highly recommend anyone do a tour, even if it's not with this company. We got back to shore around 7-7:30pm, so total time was 5 hours ish. Pros: - the Na Pali coast is BEAUTIFUL - the views were truly a once in a life time experience for me and I saw the fullest rainbow I've ever seen - The tour guide was super informative, we learned a lot about whales, and they also taught us a lot about certain mountains and waterfalls that we passed on the Na Pali Coast (like where Kauai kings were buried). - We stopped to watch whales multiple times and it was really cool! - The 3 staff working on board the ship were extremely helpful in answering questions, providing drinks, and instructing people from a safety perspective - Safety - I felt very well taken care of the whole time. It's a barefoot cruise but people can choose to keep their shoes on if they want. They provided bags for people feeling nauseous and gave good advice when people were feeling seasick. - Food provided - it's not fine dining or anything (chicken teriyaki, salad, etc) but it does beat having to pack your own food or go hungry around dinner time. Also unlimited alcohol or nonalcoholic drinks. - The staff helped us take photos and there's a lot of great photo opportunities at the coast - Champagne toast at sunset, which was beautiful to watch out on the water - bathrooms available on board - My husband didn't feel like eating on board due to the motion sickness so they were kind enough to pack a to-go box for us! - Parking was easy and the meet up location was easy to find - we stood outside for most of the ride since it felt better than sitting inside, so we did get a bunch of sea-spray and got super wet from the 10 ft swells, but it felt really fun! Cons: - I think they need to put a huge disclaimer with statistics or something to show people how common it is for people to get seasick and vomit. I think maybe 5 people from our whole boat got really sick and either fell or vomited during the trip (can feel a little weird enjoying the beautiful view while someone smells like vomit next to you lol). They do tell you at the beginning that you can walk away and get a full refund after hearing the captain briefing during the meet up starting spot, but I don't think they really emphasize just how many people get sick. I personally felt fine but I felt really bad for people who had to gut through the five hour round trip feeling terrible. bring Dramamine!! This was definitely a highlight of my first time in Kauai, I wouldn't necessarily do it more than once due to the price, but it was a fantastic experience for the views!

We passed by a Captain Andy's catamaran during the tour, and ours honestly looked better. Here's a practical classification: * Wind: 20 knots (23 mph) * Fresh breeze (Beaufort Force 5) * Whitecaps are common. * Reefing the sails is often recommended. * Experienced sailors generally enjoy these conditions. * Beginners may find them intimidating. * Seas: 5 feet * Moderate waves with regular swells. * Boats will pitch and roll noticeably. * Spray over the bow is common. * Can become uncomfortable, especially for smaller boats. Overall rating * For a 20- to 30-foot sailboat: Challenging. Suitable only for experienced sailors. * For a 35- to 45-foot cruising sailboat: Moderate to moderately rough. Manageable with proper sail handling. * For beginners or passengers: Rough and potentially uncomfortable. If you're asking about a sailing excursion in Kauaʻi I'd classify 20 knots and 5-foot seas as: * Marginal to poor for a leisurely sightseeing sail. * Acceptable for experienced crews on larger, well-equipped catamarans. * Not ideal if your goal is a smooth, relaxing cruise or if you have balance issues or are prone to seasickness. Given what I know about your mobility and balance, I would recommend waiting for conditions closer to: * Wind: 10-15 knots or less * Seas: 2-4 feet Those conditions are generally much more comfortable and enjoyable for most passengers. This a money making joke. I tried to get a refund because I walk with a cain. There response tuff luck I should not have booked.
