Logan was our dive master and he was amazing! My brother and I hadn't gone diving in over a year and he patiently walked us through all of the equipment, the dive plan and the hand signals he would use throughout the dive. He had all of the kits out together for us and helped us put them on and guided us into the water. I mentioned that I really love octopus, so he made it his mission to find one. AND WE FOUND TWO!! It was a windy day, but he helped us into the water and it was an amazing experience. We saw a whale breach off the cove and we heard them calling each other throughout the whole dive. He pointed out so many creatures. This was by far the best dive ever and all of this at ~50 ft in depth. If you are looking for a great dive, a super chill but sharp dive master, ask for Logan and choose Dive Kauai! My 13-year old son and I took an introductory SCUBA class in a man-made, salt water lagoon at the Hyatt. We had never SCUBAd before. Avery very clearly and efficiently explained to us while on the land as to what exercises/skills we would be doing under the water. Once we got underwater all the students in the class performed these basic skills without any hick ups. Then we were able to roam around, explore, and try things out for the next 20 minutes. Dive Kauai: Not recommended to advanced divers, and good luck if you get Nick as your boat driver So, you will probably do ok if you're a beginner, and you are likely to be disappointed or even upset if you are an advanced diver. Before I forget, I have to mention that they only offered 3mm wetsuits which is absolutey insufficient in december temperatures for any diver who doesn't have a certain amount of built in body insulation. Fathom Five where I went after, offered 5mm by default and could not believe that they were only offering 3mm in december. Dive Kauai does offer free gear rental included in the price, which is nice of them, but they only have one diving boat, and it is a very small diving boat. If they get 6 people, it will be super cramped and do not expect to have any room for a camera bag or any personal gear. Nick, the boat driver I was unlucky to get, even told me that the next day because the boat would be full, I'd have to put my multi thousand dollar cameras on the ground (and hope no one would step on them or that they wouldn't get banged up). On that topic, I would add the boat has no rinse tank, which is an issue since I had a camera spring corode due to lack of cleaning on a previous trip, which in turn caused a latch to unlatch and the camera housing to open under water, ruining an expensive camera and all my pictures. That said, Nick, found a way to fix that problem by calling the owner after the trip, mostly lying about me , and getting me kicked off future trips I had pre-booked with dive Kauai. Obviously that was a major inconvenience to have to rebook with another company at the 11th hour, but although it was a very clear inconvenience to me, wasting hours of my vacation time and a dinner, to rebook the evening, Fathom Five was able to take me last minute. So, talking about Nick, and a longer story which is my word against his, but basically boils down to: dive kauai is forced to mix advanced divers with total beginners who run out of air in 10-15mn (when I do 60 to 75mn on average), has no protocol for this and not ruining the time of advanced divers. It was easy to predict, so I agreed with the dive guide before the dive that when the other divers would run out, I would wait under the boat for him to take them back up (they are supposed to be able to go up on their own, but dive kauai doesn't trust total beginners to do so safely, so the guide goes up with them) . I want to be clear that the dive guide agreed. When I did so, Nick got super upset at me for "refusing to follow direction and go up", when no such direction was given to me and I was waiting under the boat for the guide to come back. He did come back and signalled for us to go up because the conditions weren't good and Nick wanted to leave early. Ok, so I did, and after that Nick was pissed at me the whole time for somehow not respecting his authorita (only happened in his head, he refused the explanation of what happened, and then found a way to kick me out "his boat". Well done Nick!) The real problem, outside of harboring this totally unprofessional boat driver I wouldn't wish on any diver, is that this company is not setup to deal with advanced divers, has no protocol to do so, and does not have two boats or two guides to split groups by skill, like most respectable dive company would (I know, I've dived around the entire world and am just shy of 900 dives in over 20 years) The afternoon of that day, I went shore diving with another group of 2 and they were inexperienced, they didn't have a working mask and couldn't even go down, ultimately cancelling my dive. So disappointing. But you know the best part? After Nick found out that I went to Fathom Five to dive with them, he actually called the owner to badmouth me further and try to get me kicked off their boat. OMG, how does that even? So there you go, you have been warned. They cost me hours of wasted time and struggle on what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation and I cannot wish them on you or anyone. And yes, Fathom Five has two boats, the boat I was on was much bigger, had room for cameras, had a rinse tank, and of course had a protocol for divers low on air to go up on their own without ruining the remaining time for everyone else, and they could not believe that Dive Kauai did not read more

Went on an amazing introductory dive with Logan "B" a year ago. Had always been terrified of diving, but lucked out as others on the dive were no-shows, so it was 1:1. Alex is very knowledgeable, experienced, and just great to be with... like diving with a good friend who's got your back. I departed from my training and diving with confidence to "dive into" my renewed hobby and start to do small group open water diving trips. I did the Reactivation with relearning course because it's been 10 years since my original open water certification and I'd only done 6 open water dives since then. Choosing Dive Kauai came at the recommendation of a dive guide we met on a previous dive in California, who has since become a friend. We met with our seasoned Dive Kauai dive guide, Drew, at Koloa Landing and, to our pleasant surprise, we discovered that we were the divers scheduled for this dive tour! This definitely made for a personalized tour, with Drew answering any questions and concerns we had. Drew proved to be knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. Drew also ended up being more than just our guide; he turned out to be an excellent coach! He worked with us underwater to determine exactly how much weight we needed while in a 3mm wetsuit to achieve proper buoyancy and lessen the effort required to move through the water, increasing air consumption. He also suggested different breathing techniques. We brought our basic gear (mask, snorkel, boots, and fins), so we used some of Dive Kauai's rental gear (BCD, regulator, octo, and wetsuit), which we found to be clean and serviceable. I will admit that the wetsuit seemed a bit old and a bit worn out, but this just made it easier to get into! Our two dives were most enjoyable and gave us the opportunity to increase our knowledge of proper buoyancy, which will increase our time under the water. It turned out that I only needed half the weight that was given to me by another dive outfit on another island just a few weeks ago! We look forward to our return to the Garden Island so we can book a boat dive with Dive Kauai! read more

Booking: found them on Yelp and booked via website. Received confirmation with informative instructions (parking, online registration, what to bring etc.). They rescheduled my session due to staffing changes and texted me. Fortunately it works out for me and they resent another confirmation. Communication was quick and transparent. Online registration: complete before you go. There's an online form and 10-15 min session of e-learning for beginners since we chose the beginner course. Parking: the confirmation includes a good picture of where you need to park. If there's already a car underneath the Koloa Landing sign, just go down the graveled road for additional parking. You only need to bring your car keys with you and leave it in their van. I came with just a swimsuit. Experience: Logan was informative, helpful, funny, and patient. Ratio was 1:3 instructor to participant. He guided me by the arm around the bottom floor of the ocean and signaled me to look whenever there's cool ocean life. Overall the experience was a lot easier than expected and I encountered no issues. I would definitely return and book with them again. read more

I went in nervous because I signed up for the certification solo; but both of them were so welcoming off the bat and did such a great job to create a supportive and fun environment for all group members. Avery went out of his way to calm our nerves and make the skill sets not only doable but also build our confidence. He was both professional and funny. When we had questions Zach was also able to elaborate and give us helpful tips to use on our dives. Very polite and will make a great instructor. Stoked to obtain my certification with Dive Kauai. My husband and I were staying at the Grand Hyatt and they offered an introductory dive course in the pool and we thought it would be a fun thing to do one afternoon having never dived before. I love being in water, but my husband, not so much... lol! Dominic was very welcoming, patient and did an excellent job with instruction, what to expect and helping us overcome any nerves. We enjoyed it so much that we signed up for the ocean diving session the next day where we met up with A.J. who took us out to some reefs at a site just 5 minutes away from the hotel (we drove and met them at a dock). It was about 30 feet at the deepest point, and there were SOOOO many fish and sea turtles! It was one of the coolest parts of our trip!!! read more

We decided that we wanted to get our open water scuba certification through Dive Kauai. We found them online and after comparing multiple, Dive Kauai seemed to be the highest reviewed and rated. We booked a few weeks in advance. We paid $595 per person for our certification. This included the ecourse which is required to be completed ahead of time (~6-15 hours depending on your pace). The in-person portion was split over the course of 2 days: The first day is the longest (7:30am - 4:30pm). This day included all of the confined water (pool) skills tests and two open water dives in the afternoon. The confined water dives were at Grand Hyatt's pools which was a cool experience. After an hour long lunch break, we met in the afternoon for our two ocean dives at Koloa Landing to put our new skills to use! The second day is a half day (12:30-4:30pm) which were our last two open water dives at Koloa Landing. Koloa Landing was a great entry point for our dive, we got to explore the reef and saw an abundance of aquatic life; the highlights being the turtles! Our group had 4 students including us, plus our Dive Instructor, Logan. Logan was the best. He's funny, informative and clearly outlined expectations so nothing felt scary or unattainable. Highlights included the turtles, the welcoming environment and the Famous Amos cookies. Can't recommend them enough! Dive Kauai or bust!! read more
