I Came Here On Purpose...and They Blew It!…read more With gas pushing $6 per gallon, I decided to explore a closer scrap yard option instead of driving all the way to Kent. So I came to The Recycling Depot deliberately -- on purpose -- to compare their prices against other yards in the Seattle area. I left knowing one thing for certain: they don't know what fair pricing looks like. They paid me $0.03/lb for steel. That's right -- three cents. My load was 700 lbs of steel, and they handed me $21.00 for it. That same steel would've been worth around $42 elsewhere (or more depending on the yard). Add in stainless, aluminum, and brass, and my total ticket came to $31.25. Laughable. For comparison, Binford Metal Recycling in Kent would've paid me double on steel alone. That's $21 straight out of my pocket they basically stole -- and that's just one metal. The difference on a full load like mine? Easily $50-$60. Real money. Real loss. And the worst part? No transparency. No explanation. Just: weighed it, printed it, paid you, next. If you don't know scrap prices, you'll get taken. If you do, you'll never return. They failed the test. I came prepared, and they got exposed. I won't be back -- and neither should you!

Last month I recycled more than 200lbs of clean stainless steel and they paid 0.17 a pound. There are better recycling place that pays more. update 2017-07-07 I got a phone call from Ryan, the owner?, of Pacific Iron today and instead of apologizing for maybe an honest mistake of their employee, he start screaming and yelling at me over the phone. 2017-07-08 In response to Ryan Comment. If you really want to make the record straight, why not list the events that I told you over the phone before you start yelling and screaming at me. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO DO THAT TO ANY HUMAN BEING unless that is what you are. I am sure the reason for you to being very upset and yelling is when I told you what I've witness during my visit at your place. Your first excuse at the beginning of conversation is that it must be a mistake by her as new employee that is still in training. But when I told you that it was not her who did the weighing and coding in the computer. I even told you that she actually separated the expensive materials and commented to me" its better for you", and I thank her for doing that. - she separated the monitor boards single layer from computer boards bin. - she separated the pure cooper wire from the cat5 cables bin. but when it went to the weighing scale, your other employee had put/mixed them back to the bin and CODED both the computer boards and low grade item in one. Same what he did with the copper wire mixing it back to low grade cables. IS THIS WHAT YOU CALL "HONEST BUSINESS". I call it cheating and stealing!! Your next defense was why I did not complain immediately when I was still there, sure I did. After the cashier hand me a very low payout, I asked him why those computer boards was paid 0.30cents a pound. The cashier then told me the same excuse you said to me over the phone " NO IDEA BECAUSE I DID NOT SEE YOUR MATERIALS" so I went back to your employee who weighted the items and ask him why he coded the computer boards to "low grade" instead of computer grade? he just shrugs his shoulder like he did not hear me. I also ask him why he coded the clean stainless steel as " contaminated"? but he give no explanation as if he does not speak english or so. And when I asked you why there is no itemize on ticket printout at the weighing scale for the recycler to see so we can verify what was the weight and items coding, you sound irritated and got pissed off. You also failed to mention on your " set the record straight" long explanation that I have been recycling with your company with the same computer boards, hard drives, wires etc since 2009. All of computer boards, small or large, has always been paid in "computer grade" between $3 to $1.7 a pound. AND INSTEAD OF offering an apology and correct the "MAYBE an honest mistake" you started to talk like your whole world is collapsing. Is that how you treat customers? Screaming and yelling at them over the phone? No respect to people that provide you food on your table and employee? Even after I told you over the phone and email to not waste more of our valuable time and move on, you seem to have a lot of time yelping and yet failed to apologize.

Their certificate of destruction and their residential pickup services really sold it for me. I filled their online form late Saturday night, and wasn't expecting a reply until Monday (they're closed on the weekends) but to my shock one of their reps replied on Sunday and confirmed adding me to their route for a Monday pickup. They're not able to reserve a particular time slot/frame, you can request an ideal range but know if they can't arrive you'll need to go in person or reschedule to another day. If you do need to reschedule the pickup for a day with more flex, be sure to notify them right away so they can update the driver. For me, the flat fee was $75 but this could range for others (depending on items being picked up, distance, etc.). Payment was through an online portal, with a link sent in the scheduling email. I had originally requested pickup before 12pm, as timing would have it, I was delayed and was still at my apartment when the driver did arrive about 2 hours later. Everything worked out, the driver was very nice and was able to take my items (no paperwork to fill or was provided).
