First visit. I had a scrap auto part and had read it was worth some coin, so I brought it in to Pacific Surprised to find the yard on a busy street near the ballparks: convenient! Almost hidden in plain sight. Yards get a bad rap for trying to rip people off. Not in my one experience: I got what Google said was being paid for the part and weight. I had visited yards with my dad long ago: some of the fun was seeing what people discarded. But here they pretty much removed the scap immediately: about as clean as one could imagine for such a business. A bit overwhelming for a first-timer. Very helpful and honest. On my most recent visit I was happy to receive a higher price than what was quoted outside. After leaving I mistakenly thought I left my sun glasses there and the nice lady who answered the phone looked and asked around for them immediately. No more recycling with this company for me. I brought more than 100lbs of computer boards and they paid $37.00, what a rip off. Last month I recycled more than 200lbs of clean stainless steel and they paid 0.17 a pound. There are better recycling place that pays more. update 2017-07-07 I got a phone call from Ryan, the owner?, of Pacific Iron today and instead of apologizing for maybe an honest mistake of their employee, he start screaming and yelling at me over the phone. 2017-07-08 In response to Ryan Comment. If you really want to make the record straight, why not list the events that I told you over the phone before you start yelling and screaming at me. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO DO THAT TO ANY HUMAN BEING unless that is what you are. I am sure the reason for you to being very upset and yelling is when I told you what I've witness during my visit at your place. Your first excuse at the beginning of conversation is that it must be a mistake by her as new employee that is still in training. But when I told you that it was not her who did the weighing and coding in the computer. I even told you that she actually separated the expensive materials and commented to me" its better for you", and I thank her for doing that. - she separated the monitor boards single layer from computer boards bin. - she separated the pure cooper wire from the cat5 cables bin. but when it went to the weighing scale, your other employee had put/mixed them back to the bin and CODED both the computer boards and low grade item in one. Same what he did with the copper wire mixing it back to low grade cables. IS THIS WHAT YOU CALL "HONEST BUSINESS". I call it cheating and stealing!! Your next defense was why I did not complain immediately when I was still there, sure I did. After the cashier hand me a very low payout, I asked him why those computer boards was paid 0.30cents a pound. The cashier then told me the same excuse you said to me over the phone " NO IDEA BECAUSE I DID NOT SEE YOUR MATERIALS" so I went back to your employee who weighted the items and ask him why he coded the computer boards to "low grade" instead of computer grade? he just shrugs his shoulder like he did not hear me. I also ask him why he coded the clean stainless steel as " contaminated"? but he give no explanation as if he does not speak english or so. And when I asked you why there is no itemize on ticket printout at the weighing scale for the recycler to see so we can verify what was the weight and items coding, you sound irritated and got pissed off. You also failed to mention on your " set the record straight" long explanation that I have been recycling with your company with the same computer boards, hard drives, wires etc since 2009. All of computer boards, small or large, has always been paid in "computer grade" between $3 to $1.7 a pound. AND INSTEAD OF offering an apology and correct the "MAYBE an honest mistake" you started to talk like your whole world is collapsing. Is that how you treat customers? Screaming and yelling at them over the phone? No respect to people that provide you food on your table and employee? Even after I told you over the phone and email to not waste more of our valuable time and move on, you seem to have a lot of time yelping and yet failed to apologize. read more

I used to go Next Door to Pacific Irons Recycling years ago when I drove into the Port of Seattle, I worked for a trucking company that delivered empty containers, to and from the port So today when I needed a piece of sheet metal for a project, I was like I know where I can get that from, so I headed down to Sodo on 4th Ave just off of Lander Street to Pacific Irons Metals Building the guys working here were way cool, they let me borrow a Tape Measure to make sure I got the right size piece of Metal then I told them I wanted some Diamond Plate and the size I needed, they cut it to size for me, its not perfectly square but it is the size I need, I may trim it at a later date to make it look better or I may just leave it as it is who knows so all in all I was there about 15 minutes and I also got the guy to grind the burrs off the edge for me, and I was back on my way for stage two of my project you never know what you might find here they have Doors, Tile, I saw some hard wood flooring, gloves and a bunch of other stuff, this is definitely a place to check for that do it your self project read more

I've sold junk jewelry to these guys for nearly a decade and they are by far the fairest and most efficient buyers in Seattle. The employees are stern but patient (with even the most obnoxious customers) and they remember names and faces. The fabric store behind the scrap metal place is owned by the same local family. I've never sold any heirlooms before so I decided to start with the family sterling silver. After considerable checking around (antique silver ware specialists, precious metals specialists, etc.) I chose Pac Iron as the easiest and best price. I loaded everything up....at least 12 pounds or more and took it down to them. I had talked to Ron on the phone and he graciously let me watch the process. There was someone before me and he evaluated their silver exactly the same as mine. The details are simple: If the piece is stamped "Sterling" it is added to the box on the scale. If the piece has no stamp or if it is "Italian" he uses an electronic "speed gun" to measure the silver. The final test was to scuff the piece, add nitric acid, which if it turns green is silver plate. Unfortunately only less than 2 pounds of mine was Sterling and the most precious part were the family dinners and the pure sentiment of those memories. I'm glad I took it here, I have a good feeling about it. They were as fair as fair can be and paid the best price to boot. read more

I was asked repeatedly asked if I had been working with a coin dealer as they wanted to ensure I wasn't scrapping any collector value coins. I've been using Pac iron and metal for years and I've always had good experiences. They do a nice job separating precious metals, take the time to explain why they did or didn't accept something, and pay a fair price on the spot. They're also very upfront on how they set their fees and make it very easy for you to sept or go someplace else, but I've never found any place else that is this fair and pricing as they are. They weren't truthful when I brought them sterling silver. They had claimed my silverware set of butter knifes were not all silver and they deducted more than the knifes even weighed. I think they took advantage of me because I am a young man and i was very upset because they knew and i knew they screwed me over around 200$.. very upsetting because it was sentimental set and i definitely wont go back. read more

Im sorry but I cant give any more than a 1. I went in today to sell some platinum mainly because I had read the yelp reviews about how great and fair they are. Platinum spot was $1104 when I got there and I was offered $966. That is ridiculous. He then said we pay 10% back of spot. First 10% back of spot is a total ripoff and Second his offer was not even close to that good. It was closer to 15% back of spot. The offer they gave me was by far the lowest offer I have ever received anywhere. I drove to Olympia and got $1095 an ounce. I had nearly 3 ounces to sell and recieved about $400 more than their offer. And Platinum spot actually went down $10 before I got to the second place. This might be an ok place to sell aluminum cans but not precious netals. The only way someone is going to sell Gold or Platinum 15% back of spot is if they stole it. read more

Went there to recycle some cast iron DWV pipes. They don't buy cast iron, because of plumetted iron prices... but I just gave it to them. I was served by a good employee which unloaded off my truck and took it away. They do pay for all the other metals. If you're remodeling, this is a easy place to drop your scrap metal off. It's nicer than going all the way to the dump which smells like shit. read more

They treat my son just like he is another other (adult) customer, greet him by name, and are cheerful and friendly. I perused through my jewelry box and found several broken chains, a broken ring, two pins I never wore, a ring my husband never wore, and a couple of little tarnished silver chains, and took them down to Pacific Iron & Metal to sell them as scrap. I was ASTONISHED when the gentleman came back and told me that I would receive $1167.00 for those items!!!
