Moro (black beans and rice) with bacalao.
    Ivie P.

I walked passed this place many times on Broadway. This establishment has been here for years and always has great reviews. Today, I decided since it's Friday, not to cook and order take out food from this eatery. I asked if they have octopus salad. She show me a small container and said yes, that it's this one. I looked at the opaque container and asked both persons behind the counter in Spanish it doesn't look like "ensalada de pulpo" (octopus salad). Both said it is. I asked how much and told it's $11.99. OK , so we're still in a pandemic and with the economic inflation problem we're having, I realized price went up for that small container. I ordered 2. I also ordered moro (rice and black beans mixture, culinary known as Moors and Christian rice) and bacalao (vizcaino style that is basically stewed codfish). The octopus salad, rice and codfish cost $37.97. All 3 dishes, are generically Cuban/Basque cuisine that I personally know how to prepare and cook to perfection, regardless if made at a Latin Caribbean eatery whether Dominican, Puerto Rican, Haiti or Cuban restaurant, the basic preparation of ingredients are the same. It can be tweaked but the dish concept is practically the same. When I got home and open the container of octopus salad, noticed it is not octopus, but calamari. Calamari is NOT baby octopus. I tasted it and did not have that ceviche flavor that is known for octopus salad. It was very bland and disappointing. I had to go old school, and add olive oil, white vinegar, fresh lime, oregano, basil, tomatoes, more chopped onion and most importantly, the Goya adobo seasoning to provide that authentic ceviche flavor that is known in octopus salad and noticeably missing. Only thing I didn't have available to add, was cilantro. OK so now I corrected the flavors to the existing calamari to have it taste like an authentic octopus salad. I had to redo the dish because they told me it was octopus salad, when it was not, in flavors nor ingredients. Although I have the ceviche flavors corrected, using calamari does not give it that gastronomic experience I was expecting. The rice and bacalao were passable. As for the "octopus salad", it's very disappointing that the staff would incorrectly identify as such. As for revisiting this place to order food again.... It's a NO from me!!!!

Asopao de Marisco (plated at home)

My bf & I were in the mood for some seafood soup so we decided to place an order with Junior's. We ended up calling before placing our ordering on Ubereats to inquire about the soup sizing. The person who answered was nice & informative. We ended up going with a large Asopao de Marisco. I was really impressed with the size and amount of seafood it included. It came in a 32 Oz container, with a smaller 16 Oz container all for $25. The soup overall was delicious. They were very generous with the seafood servings it had 2 lobster tails, a few small crab legs, clams, calamari, and plenty of shrimp. The only thing I wish was that they were a little more generous with the rice, maybe giving the option to add on a side of rice. On Ubereats they don't have too many side options. Overall I'm adding this place to my takeout roster whenever I'm in the mood for some seafood soup, definitely recommend!

I love Juniors. Why? Food is pretty much always fresh as it always has customers coming in. It is primarily a seafood restaurant, while I am not big on seafood my friends who have tried it have enjoyed it. I just usually get the grilled chicken breast with onions combo ( either veggies carrots and broccoli) or with mash potatoes. This combo is generally $8-$10 and they give a lot of food. Place is perfect when you come out of one of the local gyms and are trying to get something quick, but healthy. It's very narrow so there isn't much space to sit and eat. Think of it as a "to go" restaurant.

Walked into Margon Restaurant in Midtown and instantly felt like I found one of NYC's secret cheat codes. Small space, big flavors, zero nonsense. The kind of place where you're elbow-to-elbow with strangers but everyone's united by one thing... serious hunger. Ordered the Cuban sandwich -- pressed, crispy, loaded with roast pork, glazed ham, Swiss, pickles, and mustard. One bite in and I stopped talking... which never happens. This thing didn't just deliver... it showed up early and over-prepared. Then came La Bandera Dominicana Braised beef swimming in savory gravy, yellow rice piled like a mountain, black beans doing their thing, and sweet maduros sitting on top like the victory flag. Simple. Comforting. Dangerous... because now I want it every week. Place gets busy, gets loud, gets chaotic... but it moves like a well-oiled machine. Years of experience and zero attitude. Just good people making great food. In a neighborhood full of tourist traps, this hole-in-the-wall is throwing haymakers. Sometimes the best escape in NYC isn't a rooftop... It's a Cuban sandwich and a plastic tray. And honestly... I'd pick that every time. #nycfood #hiddennyc #midtowneats

Everyone agreed with my suggestion to eat Latin American food and we made a reservation at Buena Vista, not far away from our hotel and also not far from the theater. We came over a bit early, around 5:15 and were immediately seated. We were immediately impressed by the business model. It is a melange of Latin American and Iberian faire with exquisite curation. Their cocktails were absolutely delightful, I had a Pantalones en Fuego, others had an exquisite margarita with passion fruit flavor and a Daiquirí de Fresa, just amazing. Then we ordered interminable Hors d'oeuvres. Their ham croquetas and mushroom croquetas were the rage, as well as the tostoncillos ibéricos and ceviche limeño, The main courses followed, a paella valenciana for two, the magret de pato, a delicious duck dish, and a grilled Argentine parrilla. Not bad for four people. Dessert included churros and tres leches. And of course, a bottle of a great Verdejo. Service was just flawless. We had several staff members all contributing to making our Father's Day evening special. All around us it was festive, with plenty of well dressed Spanish speakers in several tables, and the accents of a half a dozen Spanish speaking countries. Plenty of gringoes too. A beautiful collection of diversity. We left happy, ready to see "Oh Mary" and wanting to return

Wagner was great a wonderful personality and he made sure everything was to our liking checking on us periodically. I have been here before (the first time we did assorted appetizers) so but this time I dove into the dinner menu. The oxtail pasta was absolutely lovely, the meat was tender and delicately seasoned. I had the steak (I prefer my steak more on the well side) and the chef managed to keep it positively tender and juicy. Perched on top of a few slices of fried casava slices and a small side salad. You can never leave without trying the flan it's one of the best I have ever had. Service was quick and food was bought to us piping hot. The only down side is they oddly don't make pina coladas (it's the only thing I drink) and the restaurant was a bit too cold but other than that it was a lovely birthday dinner for my friend. Buena Vista is small and popular so I strongly suggest you make reservations if you plan on eating here.
