    Grilled chicken

After searching for a Hispanic restaurant, I stumbled upon this one on Yelp. When I arrived, I noticed it wasn't what I saw in the pictures, it was a takeout, I thought I was in the wrong place. I left and decided to come back and inquire about the sit down in the pictures, to find that it was located around the corner. We walked into a nicely decorated place to sit and dine. There are no paper menus, QR code menus. The young man that served us was really nice and helpful. I ordered the stewed chicken, perfectly seasoned, I thought the coconut rice would be a white rice with beans but it wasn't, it was still good. The grilled chicken was a bit salty for my taste and the waiter changed it to another dish, which I was grateful for. Every dish we had was good, I will be returning to try the other items on their menu

Santiago's is located near E. 120 St. & 1st Ave. At first glance, it's just a storefront that serves takeout Spanish-American food. On the side there's a short hall way, you walk through & you come upon a dimly lit bar & then you walk into a large, beautiful, jungle-like restaurant that serves good food, a vast assortment of cocktails & beers & a menu that was too large in choices to post. I hear they're known for their popular Brunches & their desserts are good too! The staff is very friendly & accomadating & service is pretty quick. So if your in Spanish Harlem, it's worth dropping in.

Pretty cool place. Cute decor, great service and yummy food. We popped in on a Sat past brunch and before dinner therefore it was quiet. Perfect for us because we had kids in our group. We really enjoyed and would totally return.

This place is super cute and has very welcoming vibes! The music, the ambiance and the servers all make you feel like you're somewhere on an island! All the food we got was soooo good! My fried shrimp was especially delicious and crispy. I'm told the oxtails were also amazing, and I forgot the name of the shrimp appetizer but that was also great. It looks spicy but it's actually not spicy at all. Definitely will be back!

Great establishment! Food and drinks are excellent! Service is a little slow but if you order as soon as they come you'll be fine! Music is a vibe in here as well, all latin hits! So sad they had the fire recently, we were just there the day before! Hope they recover and are back soon!

The Ambience at Santiago's is very cutesy! The Music is great ; not too loud and not too quiet. Food always HITS!! Service is a bit slow but very friendly. We ordered the surf & Turf which was the churrasco with shrimps and fries. A1 Their Yuka fries are BOMB! The oxtail with rice and beans is my FAVE! The sancocho was also DELICIOUS! We Got it with a side of rice and avocado. Perfect lunch spot with good vibes, lots of flavor and amazing food. I love Santiago's beer garden. One of my fave spots hands down.

Stopped in this weekend for a quick bite to eat. The place is small, but it was visually appealing and seemed like it had a nice vibe. We were seated quickly and our waitress was friendly and accommodating (we had a toddler with us that she was patient and kind to). I ordered coconut rice with garlic shrimp. My dinner companions ordered salmon, shrimp, chicharrones de pollo and tostones. My meal hit the spot after a long day & I really enjoyed the rice. The shrimp was average. The tostones were dry and so was the salmon. Overall, the food seemed pretty average when we went. Seating was also uncomfortable, and the music was way too loud, could barely hear each other across the table.

    Yummmm

The food here is an amazing taste to Puerto Rican cuisine. The food is so delicious and fresh. This place is great for dinner with friends. The music is always on point and the drinks are great. They have to go drink options available.

So this past Sunday was my first time at Santiago Beer Garden. Even though there is room for improvement I can see myself coming back. I will start with the ambiance- very cute! Loved it. Music wasn't too loud and you could actually have a conversation. Service- like other reviews it was a bit slow. Although it didn't bother me tremendously as I was not in rush, I felt the waitress could have been more attentive. Whenever we needed something we had to wave her down instead of her periodically checking us. She had also added an extra entree and soda on to our bill. When we asked her to remove it as we did not order it, she did so with no hesitation. But also no apology like "I'm so sorry my mistake, let me remove that for you.". It's almost like she knew she had added and was just seeing if we would catch it. Not saying that's the case but came across that way. Food- food was good but not amazing in my opinion. I ordered the Churrasco and shrimp. The waitress never asked me how I wanted the steak cooked. I forgot myself until I received my entree and it was cooked well done. I didn't want to wait for a new entree so I did not send it back and I just ate it. It wasn't terrible but would have preferred it cooked Medium. But the actual size of the steak was a bit small considering the entree was $46.00. So beware on portion size. I ordered the passion fruit colada and all I have to say is it's is amazing! This is pure heaven. It was delicious without being too sweet or "heavy" like regular Pina coladas. Definitely recommend. I do want to come back and give this place another try as it was a cute spot and would like to try other entrees.

So we picked this lovely little spot to celebrate Dominican Mother's Day, because hey--what better way to honor the moms than with a restaurant that tries its best, right? The food was fine (yay for mediocrity!), but oh honey, we are NEVER coming back. Let me set the scene: we were a party of 11, and yes, we made a reservation like civilized people. Five of us--including my elderly, disabled parents--showed up 20 minutes early. Big mistake. Apparently, this place runs a very strict "you must suffer together" policy, so they told us we couldn't sit down until everyone arrived. Not even Grandma with her cane or Dad in his wheelchair. So we were told to scram and wait outside. In the heat. Like a pack of wild party crashers. Mind you, the restaurant was practically a ghost town. Empty tables, including our obviously untouched reserved one, just chilling. But nope--rules are rules, and compassion is clearly off the menu. Finally, when our full group showed up (on time, mind you), they seated us--yay! But then dropped the bomb: we had 90 minutes to eat. Because nothing says "relax and enjoy" like a ticking clock of stress. I'm sorry, is this a restaurant or a speed-eating competition? And the cherry on top? We asked for coffee with dessert (like any sane human would), and they said--brace yourselves--they don't serve coffee in the summer. I repeat: a Spanish restaurant that doesn't do coffee. In any season. What is this, a crime against culture?! NEVER. AGAIN. Unless they start serving espresso shots with empathy.

    Oxtail Plate with yellow rice

Decided to try Santiago's after reading reviews and seeing the delicious food pics! I ordered the Pernil plate with the coconut rice. The plate came out luke warm overall and the rice was kinda dry and the beans in the rice was also hard and dry. I informed the waiter that the rice was dry and asked for some beans to go with it, which helped. But the side of beans was $7 or $8 which I thought was way overpriced, especially since it was mostly bean sauce - it was very soupy. I will probably try the white rice with beans next time. The saving grace was that the plantains we ordered were delicious and also the pernil was excellent. We also ordered tres leches cake, which was pretty good. We liked the ambience, although the music was a little loud and the chairs were not the most comfortable. It has a great vibe though, and the staff is friendly. My uncle also loved his oxtail plate!

    Alan S.

The vibes here are immaculate and I can't think of any better location these days for spontaneous day drinking. I have felt for some time that East Harlem is one of the city's most underrated food neighborhoods, with a mix of new hipster entrants and long time Dominican, Mexican and Borinquen stalwarts. We sat out in the garden and enjoyed cocktails, which all packed a punch - I had the soju caipirinha. We shared the empanadas and plantain fries, which were both excellent - the plantain fries had an almost mochi-like texture. We also split one mofongo plate which came with a side of one of my Dominican favorites, slices of fried cheese reminiscent of paneer.

Ask the Community - Santiago's Garden

    Is there ac?

Yes we have heat in the winter and AC in the summer.

Would you say this is a kid friendly beer garden during the day?

Yes it is, and we are always kid friendly

If someone in the party is underage and unable to participate in the brunch can the table still get the brunch special?

    Yes!

How much is the bottomless brunch now?

    Its $28 now.

I noticed that the mimosas are $25 for 1.5 hours. Can our party order another round of bottomless mimosas for an additional 1.5 hours, as long as it's during bottomless hours?…

No, bottomless is only offered w/the purchase of food. Unless you all want to eat all over again, $25 isn't going to reset your 1.5 hrs

If you are not vaccinated can you still do outdoor seating?

Yes you can sit in our garden if you are unvaccinated. Its covered and heated/cooled. We are open year-round.

Does the party need to bring our vaccine card?

If you want to sit inside, yes.. They do have outdoor seating for those who don't have their cards.

Is this an outdoor or indoor space? It looks totally enclosed.

Everything is out doors. They have a cover for weather. As well as COVID regulated outdoor street seating. I was there last week it started pouring rain and we were protected by the weather coverings.

What vegan options are available here?

All rices, beans, eggplant, maduros, tostones, avocado, salads.

I saw there were no more reservation spots via Yelp (sad face) do you leave room for walk ins?

Yes we do. We save 30 seats for walk ins :)

What time is the happy hour?

    Mon - Fri 4-7

Are small dogs allowed in the outdoor seating area?

    Hi, yes dogs are allowed.

    Are kids allowed?

    Yes kids are allowed!!!

Is there an age requirement to get it, or is it 21 and up?

Hey, no age requirement here. All ages welcome.

    Do you guys do hookah?

    No they don't

Do they have a prefix brunch menu?

No they don't. Their brunch menu includes many items

    Is their parking?

    There is street parking.

Because it's outdoor seating, are there accommodations for the cooler fall weather?

Yes we will have 10 industrial electric heaters outside. The whole space will be covered and enclosed with clear state of the art material to keep us all warm this winter and also allow natural light in.

Do you have happy hour and is your Sunday brunch a buffet or a specific brunch menu? - Thank you!

Its a bottomless mimosa and bellini for 1.5 hrs for $20 and you just need to order a plate of food from under the classics.…

    Do they have Dominican breakfast?

    Not at the moment
