We were in Wynnum today while the inaugural Wynnum Seafood Festival took place, but by the time we…read morearrived there throngs of festival-goers queueing up for over 5 mins just to get a feed. My sister and I weren't too impressed. By chance we decided to stroll down to the esplanade and have a wander around and came across this little gem. It seems a lot of other ex-festival people had the same idea and decided to escape the crowds and have some seafood by the sea shore. While it was super busy at the Pelican's Nest and all the outdoor seating was taken, we ventured inside to find there were no queues and we could order straight away (no 5 mins waiting in line!). We ordered the 'Treasure Chest', were given a buzzer and went outside to wait. Food was ready in under 10 mins and we decided to take away our food and walk over to the esplanade and sit in the park to enjoy our feast. The food was delicious - fish was super fresh and flaked away nicely. We also really enjoyed the prawn cutlets - nicely butterflied and cooked to perfection. I also really like the fact that the meal came with a proper side salad. All in all it was a lovely meal, and was definitely the highlight of today - after the disappointment of the festival.

We were going to go to the other fish n chips shop down the street, but they were closed. In fact,…read moremost of the shops were closed as it was a Monday, so we were only left with this option. The take-away shop has outside seating and it was extremely busy on this beautiful day. We waited about 10 mins to order and when we got up front, we put our orders in and went outside until our name was called. The plates weren't terribly expensive. Average was $17 each for a calamari and chips, a cod fish n chips, and a whole fried sea bream. Food was hot and fresh and for a take-away place, it was decent. Best part is the park across the street leading towards the Wynuum jetty. You can choose to have your food take-away and eat at the end of the pier.

This is one of the neater and newer of the fish and chip takewaways along Wynnum Esplanade. Prices…read moreare pretty standard and I haven't found one shop that's a stand out for value, though there are others at the Manly end of the strip that are definitely dearer. Cod's always cheap but but respectable, or you can pay two or three dollars more for whiting, snapper or other reef fish. Opposite a nice part of the foreshore, it's so good to grab a paper wrapped bundle of fish, chips and potato scallops and head for the grassy strip under the pine trees across the road. You'll be far enough away from the wading pool and kids playgrounds to find some peace and quiet, yet close enough to go for a nice stroll out along Wynnum jetty to work a few of those chips.

So it really does stand out to me when I order food from a fish and chip place and it tastes particularly good, which is what my experience here was. Maybe it was what I ordered? First time lucky? But even if it was luck, maybe you will get lucky too. They make homemade potato scallops here, and the grilled sea perch really took my fancy. It was tasty, not over salty, not over grilled and dry... it was moist and it was fresh. The meat was bouncy yay! The crumbed cod was your average fair, but it was still good and the calamari rings were very very good. They weren't too huge and they weren't over deep fried and too crispy. They were fresh and they were cooked just right. And we order them all the time at other fish and chip places... these ones stood out as well. The servers are really gracious and friendly, and I prices are the same as your usual fish and chips. If you're in Manly, go check them out, best I've tasted in a while!

This is the latest addition to the many fish and chip shops in the Wynnum/Manly bayside area. It's…read morepretty good for a quick trip to grab a takeaway and it tasted good so I'll go there again. The staff are friendly. The fish is fresh and the prices are standard. What's important to me is that nice fresh vegetable oil is used and they promote that they use a choleserol free Heart Foundation approved brand so that's fine. It's worth noting that they do a really good range of salads, and they make their own tartare and seafood cocktail sauce so that's good too. My order was just over $50 for the five of us and that's about average, but they did throw in two sauces. The shop is in the Wynnum Plaza complex but opens to the outside facing the carpark, so don't go there for a bay view.

My partner and I ordered a Seafood Basket ,Calamari and Chips and x2 potato scallops this evening…read more We couldn't bring our selves to eat any of it. Everything tasted old and dry. Nothing was fresh. The calamari was disgusting, and tasted worse than a leathery old boot. I called to let them know we were going to bring the food back and expected a full refund and the man on the phone did not apologise and was very apathetic towards me. My partner took the food back and the man who I spoke to was also very rude to him and did not want to refund him for the x2 potato scallops for some reason? Uneatable, old and over cooked (probably reheated) seafood that I would be too scared to eat in a heart beat with horrible service. I think The Fish Depot in Wynnum has recently changed hands as I was told it used to be ok.
