She was not only warm and patient, but she immediately established trust with him, allowing her to take all the dental records in a way that he actually found cool and fun! Dr. Carlson was incredibly personable and sweet with my son, asking him questions directly and including him in his consultation. He listened to my concerns, advised on the next immediate steps and also put a plan together for long-term goals. He uses the most up to date and innovative technology, yet is still conservative and incredibly mindful in his methodology and treatment. As a dentist myself, it is of the utmost importance for me that my son has not only a comprehensive approach, but also a thoughtful one considering all the different factors in his development. I value Dr. Carlson's expertise and respect his pragmatic approach. Dr. Carlson is one of the most attentive and unflappable doctors I've have ever met. His enthusiasm is infectious, and he is very focused on his patients. We've been amazed at the treatment our daughter has received, and wholeheartedly recommend Sean to our friends and colleagues. The office has a great staff, and is equipped with some most amazing 3D imaging equipment. It makes you feel like your at ILM or Pixar rather than a orthodontic office. The pricing is fair, and the total charges are set for the duration of the treatment (even if you run into surprises). Dr. Parikh who has taken over this practice has done a great job on my son's teeth. I recommend her for children's orthodontistry.

While I'm sure the orthodontic care my son is getting here is good, they have the most horrible accounting person I have ever met. She's so hard to deal with that I can't recommend this place at all. Problems: - I've been waiting since December 2009 for any sort of itemized bill I can submit to the insurance company. I've requested this four times, but the only thing she ever sends is a one-liner saying "Balance Due"... no insurance company is going to pay off of that. - Since she wouldn't send me a bill that could be processed through insurance, I asked her to submit the claim directly. She said she would, then asked me to fax the insurance info and forms, which I did the same day. But she never submitted the claim. A month later I call and ask why - she says, Because I didn't phone her with my social security number. HELLO - you already have my social security number on the contract. I told her this, and she said -- get this -- she couldn't be bothered to go in the next room and look it up. - Now my husband is dealing with her, and he's in misery too. It's so unfortunate that we can't simply move to another orthodontist, but we can't do that in the middle of treatment. She's hostile, petty, and completely unreasonable. Dr. Carlson was my dentist about ten years ago. He did a fantastic job! Unfortunately, I didn't keep up with wearing my retainer, my teeth began to shift and over the course of years, my smile had actually moved quite drastically. I decided to schedule a consultation and was a little bit skeptical when I met with Dr. Parikh and not Dr. Carlson. However, I could not be more pleased! I called Dr. Carlson's office to schedule an appointment / consultation to learn more about Invisalign or braces, the options. When I called I was told the appointment coordinator would call me back. A week or more later I received a phone call and without any discussion, the appointment coordinator said Dr Carlson does not take adult patients. Seems odd because it is listed that he does work with adults. Local neighbors through next door have recommended him and his ratings seem really good. I just dropped my daughter off for her first day of school, wearing a new backpack, cute new skirt. . . and a full-on headgear. And she is not in the least bit self-conscious, or traumatized, and I completely chalk that up to the enthusiasm, kindness and direct approach of Dr. Carlson. One of the first things you notice with Dr. Carlson is how he focuses on your child and talks to her with openness and respect, and not a bit of condescension -- and the child totally responds to it. We chose Dr. Carlson based on recommendations from friends, and from our dentist. Our next-door neighbor on one side told the story of her son 'forgetting' to wear his retainer for an entire month. . . and Dr. Carlson putting the braces back on again for no extra charge (a really great feature is that the total fee is set at the beginning for the entire span of the treatment). The neighbor on our other side told of being at another orthodontist in town, and switching in the middle of treatment because Dr. Carlson's plan and care were superior. Our dentist pointed out that -- and this is really important -- Dr. Carlson is the only orthodontist he could confidently say wouldn't recommend any 'unnecessary work' for my 3 kids. Dr. Carlson has been a professional, positive and attentive orthodontist. We are very pleased with the service we have received over the years. ( 2 kids needing significant orthodontia.) He has been understanding and fair with pricing, and he offers different payment plans upfront, so that you can decide what fits your needs. I have never had any problems with the billing department. My kids have no problem going to see the orthodontist. (and that can't be said for the dentist!). I agree with the other 5 star reviews. Not easy returning as an adult and admitting I neglected my retainers, and I was quite embarrassed to see Dr. C again, but he and his staff made me feel comfortable and at home again. Many of the available Yelp reviews are pretty dated, and I wanted to offer an enthusiastic recommendation for Dr. Parikh in particular. She's recently taken the lead in the practice as Dr. Carlson has been focused on orthodontics developments outside the office. Dr. Parikh is a fantastic provider and I am thrilled that my kids have gotten the chance to work with her. She's eminently knowledgeable and has a terrific approach to working with kids/adolescents, as do all the supporting technicians. The office has recently been refreshed, and the technology available (from instruments to digital imaging) is top-notch. I am confident that my kids are receiving outstanding orthodontic care! Additionally, the folks in billing are always helpful and willing to accommodate families with varying financial situations...this is appreciated given the cost of orthodontic treatment, for sure. When I went to him for braces, he used clear, caring communication skills and state of art equipment to assess my orthodontal needs and devise an appropriate treatment plan. I have seen some of the top dentists, periodontists and orthodontists in San Francisco trying to figure out the right procedures to treat some bone loss in my teeth. But none of them took the time to really analyze my situation, give me the personal attention, or determine what was right for my particular needs. Dr. Carlson is a godsend. After spending about 20 minutes with him and his lovely assistant, Lynne, everything became clear, logical and comprehensible. He's the first doctor who actually diagnosed my particular situation rather than just assuming I should get braces because I showed up in his office. Not only did he recommend not getting braces, but he didn't charge me for the consultation. Unheard of.
