Bread with caramelized onion butter was a nice addition, but the cocktails were average, with the "Pear-a-dise" being my favorite. The shrimp ravioli and the seabass were my choices. However, the servings are small and the taste average. The food presentation was fine, but not outstanding. There is nothing in the plates we order that needs to be mentioned as remarkable. Again, the food is not bad, but average. - **Service**: The service was also average, neither excellent nor professionally trained. The staff did their best to make our dinner special, but they seemed to lack knowledge about the menu. For a Michelin restaurant, you expect a more proficient staff. In comparison, in any other restaurant, their level of service would be acceptable. - **Ambiance**: Definitely not ideal for a romantic dinner. The bar, located at the entrance of the restaurant, has loud music and lots of people chattering, which echoes throughout the dining room. It was quite a noisy meal. **In Summary**: The restaurant is average but nice. I would not return, but I recommend this place for the views. It is definitely not deserving of a Michelin star based on the food and service, which were good but lacked Michelin quality.

The food is really good quality, serving a range of food, from coffees and cakes, to soups, paninis, chips, steaks, sausage and mash, seafood, pastas and salads and their desserts are to die for! The staff are always really welcoming in there, and it is a really relaxing environment. You normally get typical office worker types in there. The menu can be relatively expensive, and you can probably expect a two course lunch to cost between £15-20. I think the food is definitely worth the price charged, although I do not go there on a regular basis, mainly because I cannot afford these prices, as much as I enjoy the food!

Honestly, my memory has started to get a bit fuzzy by this point but the one thing I came away with is this: we didn't belong here. We were bright, loud, drunk, a bit messy, and generally causing a ruckus. The Hatchet is pretty much the exact opposite where somber men come to drink their pint and contemplate life. That being said, your money is good as the next man's and the pints are drawn expertly highlighting the wealth of experience held by the barman. Drink of choice: A good old English ale. It seemed wrong to drink anything else.

However, on my recent trip back home to Berkhamsted, a quick Sunday night trip to this pub really stood out for being great. We headed out for a quick drink after a day travelling from wales and back. we get to the bar and there is a group of regulars sat at the bar so we order some beer on draft and go and take a seat, and play some of the quiz machine (for those interested we won 10 quid on battleships 2 off a 50p investment, a great start to the evening). We decide to grab another beer and this time the bar is a bit clearer, leaving us view to a huge selection of canned craft beers, I was in heaven. The barman was very friendly and tried as best as he could with the beers, was hard as they have no beer menu, so had to pick out beers based on labels. They also have a beer and cider from local breweries brewed especially for them. The cost of the beer is very competitive based on the town. its around 3 pounds for draft and the cans are 4 pounds each. The interior of the pub is nicely decorated and cosy. There is large amounts of seating outside under cover from rain., Outside you are located right on the canal and on summer its common to see people sat on the grass by the canal or on the lock enjoying their drinks. The locals are extremely nice (atleast when we were there), however on Friday/saturday the pub gets very busy and given the smallish bar can take a while to get served. They also have a quiz nights on Thursdays I was told, although sure if that's every Thursday. Definitely worth a visit if your in Berkhamsted.

We found ourselves steps away from the Covent Garden Cocktail Club after dinner last night so I…read moresuggested we stop in, thinking I might get to sample the strawberry daiquiri on their menu made with Bacardi gold, pressed lime and strawberry jam. As we descended the stairs we fell into an alternate universe where people were singing Ace of Base at the top of their lungs and dancing like "All That She Wants" was going to save us all. As if that wasn't awesome enough, the DJ followed it up with "The Sign" and the crowd roared. Talk about knowing your target audience! The bar was several people deep so ordering cocktails seemed pretty out of the question (not to mention rude) so the four of us drank Japanese beer instead. Too loud to converse with one another we had an amazing time watching everything going on around us: the super tall bloke with a popped collar polo shirt who had at least one arm in the air the entire time who knew the words to every song played, the folks attempting swing dancing in too small an area, the gigantic wall-size mirrors that made the place feel so much bigger than it was and several times confused us into thinking that the place had multiple rooms. The crowd consisted of folks ages twenty to fifty and had a large portion of young women who had, clearly, put in loads of effort for their big night out. More surprising to me, the older dudes in the striped shirts who appeared to have come into central London from a fairly far off exurb seemed just as at home here as the early twenties ladies in mini dresses and carefully applied makeup and super done hair. And me in my climate-appropriate outfit? I sensed the possibility of this place. I'll be back to sample the cocktails some weeknight soon.
