The waves weren't as big and dramatic as they could get but it was still very cool to see the ocean rolling so much. Normally we go when it's nice and tranquil but we finally took it in with a storm coming in to boot along with the tides which created a cool but really intense experience. The wind was very strong and it was raining so staying outside for a long time wasn't really an option. Still it was really a fun experience and this sandy beach is normally a great place to go to in the summer!

Came here in September and we were the only people there…read more Besides the condos right next to the beach, once you're on the sand, you can't see anything else except for the ocean and grassy hills behind you. There is a parking lot with restrooms and picnic tables before you hike up the small hill to reach the beach. Beautiful and with the loud waves, we had to shout while standing next to each other. There were a few hikers there, but otherwise mostly those preparing to fish. We didn't visit the camping section, but they've got a decent sized day-use area with a good amount of parking, tables, and restrooms. We took the forest loop trail that leads from the lake along the stream through the forest and back around to the day-use, about 2 1/2 miles. There are sections of the trail that are simply gorgeous, and other parts not quite as pretty. But the trail is pretty fun, ups and downs, winding with steps and bridges. While the path is completely passable right now, it was very muddy in many places. A bit precarious at times, as some of the soupiest, slickest spots happened to be on inclines and declines. You'll definitely need waterproof shoes and prepare to get dirty, but Sylvia is good for a quick hike. They've got some interesting educational info along the trail too...and the lake has a very peaceful feeling.

I see lots of them) Also a group camping site that is at the top of a hill and looks down at the water. Easily fits 8-10 tents and has a covered shelter ! Perfect for a family reunion camping trip and honestly a beautiful place to even consider as a wedding venue.

Getting out and walking the trail shows a sandy beach with tall grass. I was one of three people here. It was eerily quiet. Being a state park, a Discovery Park pass or $10 fee is required to park here. Crabbing and fishing are permitted. Giant trees covered in moss and lichen.

We were so lucky to meet a couple of trail stewards in the uppermost parking lot who advised us how to pay (pay in advance online, write the confirmation code, and place on your dash) as there is no machine on site. They also made sure we knew which areas the dogs were allowed in (everything south of the wildlife refuge) and which they are not (wildlife refuge itself). And walked with us for the first part of the Dune Loop trail along the bay beach. Much appreciated as the trail on the beach can be a bit difficult during the higher parts of a tide. We saw about 15 eagles flying together all enjoying the clear day and thermals, so many amazing trees with gorgeous moss and ferns, and yes even in end of February...a couple of garter snakes. It's a fairly easy hike in terms of elevation but I will say you need to be surefooted along the beach for sure but also through the forest as the trail has many roots and pinecones. It was easy enough that our dogs were able to do the full 2.8 mile loop without needing to be toted. Overall it's worth spending a morning or afternoon exploring, especially on the bay side. The sound of the ocean and trees are the only 'noise' and the traffic seemed to just be a couple of other folks and a lot of sandpipers.

They'd recently mowed the paths and next to the boardwalk, however a little snake made his way up onto the boardwalk to sun. He stayed put so we could sneak past, but you could tell the growth under the platform was high and pushing up through the boards making it easy for him to come up from below. The rest of the path was uneventful. A lot of robins, but no migration activity or anything of significance to view at this time. Decently large gravel lot at the trailhead, as well as a vault toilet.

The Bruceport County Park is an oddity. If you're tenting or dry camping, then wow. The sites are…read moresimply beautiful, many of them with stunning views from the top of the bluffs overlooking Willapa Bay. There's plenty of grassy fields, trees, and more, offering nearly every site plenty of privacy. If however you're in a RV rig, and looking for a full hookup, they decided to place all 7 hookup spots right next to each other on a gravel island. You and your neighbors will be crammed like sardines, with no room for table, fire pits, nothing. Also, the facilities are in dire need of some TLC. Really too bad, since the campground itself has truly tremendous potential, but clearly lacks any incentive to up its game. If the county ever sells this park to a driven and creative entrepreneur, then this could become one of the best parks out there.
