Well, that was all we needed to head inside. The store is gorgeous with framed canvases, unframed canvases, and hundreds of frames everywhere. The store has a huge inventory, but it was super-neatly organized and felt uncluttered. We saw art styles of every description - landscapes, seascapes, abstracts, realistic and stylized human and animal portraits, a very deep variety of colors, artistic approaches and sizes. We had recently remodeled a bathroom and wanted a piece of artwork to hang there. We both agreed on a 12"x16" oil painting of a gray seascape with a lighthouse, beach/ocean scenery, moored boats and a full moon. The color themes perfectly complemented our wall color, and what's even better is that we could choose whatever frame we wanted. We went with a grayish/white distressed frame that reminded us of driftwood. Man -- it was perfect. The store will be closing soon because the owner is retiring, so there are some very sweet sales going on right now. For the oil painting and frame, we paid $84.53 and had the pleasure of working with Gallery manager Lisa Amado to transact the purchase. She packaged everything up so carefully and gave us such detailed hanging instructions, you'd have thought we just bought the Lost Ark of the Covenant! read more

Nice gallery with a lot of art that seemed duplicated in some sort of way and was available in different sizes and very affordable. It's a 1 story gallery and easy to walk through and navigate. They offer shipping for pieces which is cool. We came from out of town so this service would have been ideal especially if we wanted large items that would not fit into our bags. They also allow you to pick a frame for your art for the price you see on the piece (the frame is included with the price.) They had a sign that they are closing and the art was marked down. read more

If you are looking for a high end painting this is not the place for you. This is the place for someone like my fiancée and I who need to decorate our cottage in the Cape and second home in NH with some decent quality canvasses. The selections here are always great, sure there are some paintings that don't match our style, but who's to say that they won't suit someone else. The past few times we have been in the area we found some great canvasses that fit our beech house and our home in the White Mountains. The guy working here is fantastic and if he fumbles with the canvasses we don't let it ruin our day. He is very honest and I would assume he wouldn't sell damaged paintings without either dropping the price or swapping for another piece. Every time we stop in he knows us by our names and always goes out of his way to provide us with outstanding service. So far we have bought roughly 7 or 8 canvasses and will be back for more. Great place if you are looking to decorate your special spaces with some nicely done, hand painted canvasses. We will defiantly be back for more! read more

I have purchased many pictures from this Art Gallery over the years and have always been treated better than any of the "Outrageous" priced galleries. When visitors come to my home quite often one of the first things they mention are the pictures on the walls that I did not have to spend thousands of dollars. When I changed the interior of a few rooms recently I brought back my pictures to have the frames removed and purchased new frames for little cost. The salesperson Kyara was so pleasant, understood what I was looking for, in no time both frames had new frames on my pictures. I highly recommend this lovely Art Gallery and my suggestion to the owner(s) is you have an outstanding employee and I hope you pay her accordingly. read more

What qualifies as "high-end" art - a sticker price or a feeling? We were just browsing and saw a framed painting of a bunch of musical instruments for only $99 whose bright colors perfectly compliment my rehearsal space. I saw art like this once in a jazz club but never imagined that I could find a painting like this for the price, when even getting a canvas wood-framed can be expensive. It was signed only "R. Wilcox" but perfectly fits the wall right above my piano. There were other jazz-themed paintings I would have snapped up if I had the space to hang them. 6 years ago, I went to this gallery and bought a beautiful painting of a lighthouse with waves crashing against the beach. I paid $79, plus tax, and that included a perfectly matching driftwood style frame. Fast forward to just a few weeks ago. I wanted a new piece of art for over my fireplace. I went back to seaside and found another painting that I love. I was speaking with the woman working, and told her about my previous painting and the frame it was in. I wanted a similar frame because even though the paintings would be in 2 different rooms(living room and dining room) they would still be on the same wall and visible to each other from most angles. I pointed out another driftwood frame, and mentioned my first frame was similar. The woman working said "6 years ago was when you bought the last one? That's not the frame, but I think I know which one you're talking about". Not even 30 seconds later, she came out from the back storage room with the exact frame my first picture had for this new one to have as well. I was already planning on buying this new picture, but I was so impressed with her knowledge and memory! The total for this piece (same size as the first one) was $99 plus tax. This is definitely my go to gallery any time I need new art in the future. I highly recommend! read more

My husband and I were just browsing around Newport on our anniversary, and we stopped in this nice shop. We had a spot in our house (3,000 miles away) for a nice picture, and we had been looking at prints and paintings for over a year. Seaside Art Gallery had a great selection! It was tempting to buy a coastal scene, but we opted for a beautiful fall, mountain landscape. The price was very reasonable. The nice young lady helped us select a frame, and we had it shipped (at a cost, of course) to our home. It arrived in beautiful condition within the allotted time. Sometimes you can go into the art dealers in Newport and they will assume you are just looking and won't bother talking to you (we had this experience at a few places prior to Seaside). But when we walked into Seaside, Lisa greeted us immediately and offered to help us. We were looking for something for our apartment, and told Lisa the ways in which our tastes differ. She made a few suggestions and showed us some things she thought would be a good compromise in our tastes. Out of the 3 she showed us we ended up really liking one of them and decided to buy it. Was plesently surprised my wife purchased a small oil painting, and the canvas and frame (although)cheap was a very well done oil on canvas,yes it's not a fancy gallery, but then again were talking paintings in the 50.00-500.00 price range.I believe Rich the gallery artist was very helpful, and went out of his way to help us, without being pushy.The previous person is in my opinion is a snob and should stick to collecting comic books, instead of art.. read more

While there is some truth to Christopher's assessment of the shop, I wouldn't be so harsh about it. Yes there are many oil paintings (I wouldn't buy any other type), yes they are everywhere, and yes the owners use the common retail trick of over-pricing their wares and then putting massive sale prices on them. My wife and I always find art galleries to visit when out of town, as in this case, and by far this was one of the best galleries with a good price/quality ratio. We have been here three times over several years while visiting from Delaware and have bought numerous large and small paintings from this shop. We personally liked the fact that you weren't stuck with a frame the owner or artist selected and could find one which better met the decor of our house - Italian Villa. There is one artist, that I cannot remember, who turns out some stunning paintings. All paintings we purchased were professionally packaged by the shop and shipped to our house without incident. Christopher is correct when he says you won't be paying $3500.00 for painted simply because the gallery owner has artificially created a demand by slapping on a high price. If you know enough about art, you can certainly find many diamonds in the rough here and not go broke. One more thing Christopher is right about, stay away from the Kinkade want-to-be's, animal's, and "Target" style paintings. There are some good portraits, Mediterainian scenes, and Paris scenes.
