It isn't as large, bright, and airy as the Niceville branch, but it is well-staffed and well-stocked with selections. And it is local to us. Best of all, if something is at one of the sister branches, they'll have it transferred for us, which is always nice! I recently went in to the library to return some books, and came across the friendliest librarian I'd met at the Crestview branch in the three years I have lived here. I was in a hurry - my best friend was in the car with 10 children, waiting on me - but now I wish I had thought to get her name. Many of the other staff I have encountered here seem to be worn out, tired of dealing with people. That's not the attitude I want to encounter when I'm coming to find materials to promote relaxation and happiness for me, or education and learning in my daughter. We do love the story hour and arts/crafts mornings. My best friend's daycare looks forward to the days we promise to take them. The changes they made in the layout for the Teen section are nice - nothing overwhelming, but definitely more welcoming. All in all .. we appreciate the Library, the services they provide, and the people who continue to work hard to make it a great experience for everyone.

Then, this lady was sort of eccentric, so you wouldn't easily forget her. You see, in L.A., there are no normal people. They are either sarcastic, irreverent, wannabees, direct, materialistic, angry, eccentric, cool, narcissistic, or some combination of these things. I'd say her calling card was "eccentric," so she fit right in. Well, on a cross country trip using I-10, there it was! It was an off-ramp for DeFuniak Springs! Thus, it was a real place. And this lady's tire tracks had, at one time or another, probably matched the very ones I was laying. This time, I pulled off the interstate to briefly check out the town of DeFuniak Springs. The town is only slightly north of Interstate 10. The town itself is very quaint and there is a large lake in the middle of it. Around this lake is a loop road lined with large, beautiful historically inspired homes. For that matter, there are a lot of nice homes and interesting structures, such as churches, government buildings, and others, in DeFuniak Springs. Being in Florida's Panhandle, the area is very forested. I randomly asked a lady what put DeFuniak Springs on the map. She said that it was the railroad. As far as I know, the railroad's importance must have diminished, seeing that Amtrak does not run across the top of Florida but, rather, descends diagonally from Atlanta toward New Orleans, missing most, if not all, of the Panhandle cities and towns. So I got my answer. The question I didn't ask is who DeFuniak was. I thought I'd give that a rest. Even I thought it was somewhat strange to lower the rental car's window and randomly converse with someone about their small town to begin with.

Very family orientated and good retirement area. Housing prices have started going up since easy access to beach. Senior center, shuttle, walking trail around lake. Easy to drive to town. Small town so can do shopping in just a few hours. Yes, you will meet your neighbor and be greeted by name at the local stores, if that is what you want. The town was named after a railroad magnet. He built a spur from his railroad to this area. Chautauqua society was founded and still in operation in this town. Summer reading and lectures at beautiful leactur hall. Natural meteor made lake with walking trails, ducks, playground, fountains and antebellum homes is the jewel or town. Many lakes throughout area with resorts for RV. All in town are 4th July celebration, Christmas parade, State fair, Boy scouts, Girl scouts, Little theater, Football games........ There is also a great winery here with tours daily. You may taste the wine and see the vats. Just off the interstate. Great weather. Warm and sunny. Close to highest point in Florida.

This place sucks just the same as any other social security office. If you want to get something…read moredone here, MAKE SURE you have the following: 1. An APPOINTMENT. No matter what they say I'd make sure you have an appointment, because at any time they can decide they're not taking walk ins and your time is wasted. Don't take the chance. 2. ALL the paperwork or CERTIFIED paperwork you need. If it's a name change or anything like that, make sure you have your CERTIFIED copies. This means the copies you usually pay for at the clerks office with a stamp. 3. Patience. Try not to go in here on a bad day, although I know it doesn't always work out like this. This is a government office running on the lowest bar and can get very frustrating very quick. It's not worth losing your patience. Bless all who read this and hope your social security appointment goes smoothly the first time.

The Navarre beach bridge is a nightmare to cross in summer if your a local & live in Navarre Beach…read more It's just a small two lane little bridge, wasn't built for mass traffic like it sees today. When I first moved here I rented a condo on Navarre Beach for 5 months till I found my home. At first, I wanted to live in Navarre beach, but that quickly all changed when I tried to cross this bridge every day to the shopping areas, groceries etc., as there is NO commercialism on Navarre Beach. You have to cross the Navarre bridge to purchase ANYTHING. AND in the summer season the traffic is backed up over it all the way across with traffic barely inching even thou the speed limit is 20MPH. It takes over an hour just to cross it, same thing on the way back. If you go the other way, the 7 mile stretch of beach thru the Santa Rosa Area to the Pensacola Bridge, the speed limit is also 25-35MPH & it's usually backed up & takes well over an hour to get to shopping over there. A nightmare situation. You basically have to schedule your entire life around getting to the grocery store before/after the traffic nightmare begins/ends. What's even worst is during the bird nesting season, the edges of this little bridge become roped off & protected so the birds can nest. They do not like the beach goers walking/jogging along near their babies. It's all very disturbing to their habitat. The moms constantly squeak & squawk it's heartbreaking. I stopped driving there. I do not go there anymore. Navarre beach used to be my favorite place. Now there are just too many people crossing this bridge. If you want to make a change in the world, start with the "man in the mirror." Navarre Bridge - Population minus me. Sometimes "Good-Bye" is the saddest word. Will never Return.

There is a tight-but-protected, single-track pedestrian path on each side of the 2-lane roadway, so runners and walkers can have a decent workout taking the 1 mile distance from Navarre over to the beach (or 2 miles if out & back). The surface varies from sturdy concrete close to the bridge abutments to metal grates that allow a thrilling view of the distance between you and the water below. Once you hit the island, you'll find some great fishing and swimming spots just adjacent to the bridge. There are trash cans available to ensure litter is kept out of the water. Unlike the bridge to Pensacola Beach, the Navarre Beach Causeway currently is toll-free. That could change in the future, as plans are in the works to rebuild this bridge to make it wider and conform to current safety standards. There is also a controversial campaign in the works to rename it for the 45th President of the United States, but nothing has been settled yet. During the right season (April to September), watch out for nesting endangered sea birds including black skimmers and least terns. The area will be roped off and warning signs will indicate where you can't walk or park. The speed limit is also reduced to 20 MPH. If you are running or walking past, you'll hear these birds loudly squawking to stay away from their babies!
