They also badger you to pay cash and when you do they don't collect tax....so they are also dishonest!! The spa has a very welcoming vibe to it once you walk in and it was nicely decorated inside and out for Christmas. It was also noticeably clean, which I immediately look at before receiving a spa treatment. We were greeted promptly upon arrival and our coats were taken from us to be hung up. We were then asked if we wanted any coffee or tea while we received our spa service. The coffee was good and nice to sip on to warm up. Melanie did my pedicure and Megan did my Mom's. They were both masked, professional and friendly. They made sure my Mom and I were both comfortable during the entire time. We sat in massage chairs that were so relaxing. There were plenty of nail polish colour options to choose from and we both chose festive Christmas colours. Overall, our pedicure experience was very relaxing and pleasant. I would definitely come back here with my Mom for a pedicure with Melanie and Megan. We would like to try getting manicures in the future with them. Went in and was shown straight to sink for my hair to be washed. No consultation on my hair, no seeing what kind of hair i had when dry and styled my way, nothing, especially disappointing considering i was a first time client. I should have left then as my first thought was that this wasn't right. Chatted to the stylist, even showed her a lot of pictures. Expressed how nervous i was due to having had bad experiences elsewhere before before findng my stylist that moved. Was told i couldn't have the style i wanted as my hair was' layered and it needed not to be. I accepted this. Told her i wanted to keep my length, wanted the weight taken out and more of a dramatic side bang look. Stylist indicated where my hair was on my back (little less than halfway down) and where she would take it to, which was fine. Before i knew it she had given me a short bob, just resting on my shoulders. I was (and still am) devastated. I was holding back the tears when she dried and just wanted to get out of there - because at the end of the day when someone cuts off your hair and its too short - what can be done?! During the cut when i asked the stylist about options for perhaps curling my hair at the end as i wasn't super confident doing this myself and with it looking good. She simply told me some people do it with straighteners and that wad the end of the conversation. That was it. I DID actually want it to be finished that way but her knowledge and attitude made me decide not to take it further. All in the appointment lasted around 25 minutes. Too short in my opinion. Got home and burst into tears, i was very very upset. Hair i had been growing for months and months gone! I still am very upset and have worn my hair up since. I hate it. Besides the fact that its miles off what i asked her to do, the cut is not good. Random blunt cut pieces. Wish i had never gone to this salon and will certainly not be going back and will be warning off anyone who mentions it to me. (Review is showing as 1 star as i had to give it something to allow review to publish.) **Edited to say I have since had a conversation with someone else who went there a few months ago and also reported a pretty bad experience with a unsatisfactory cut.. It took an hour here because the staff member (Mary I believe) was so unskilled and poorly trained. She scraped the old shellac with so much force it was painful and she also ripped off half a nail, which is now damaged and sore. She also cut two of my cuticles, one of which is still very painful and red. Her shellac application was pretty messy and she filed my nails at odd angles. I regret leaving a tip because I feel like I rewarded her. I would avoid this place, or at least make sure you don't book with Mary.

To be fair, my first visit was not too bad. I found the place after moving to Ottawa from Toronto, and was relatively happy with my first visit. Though my treatment started well after my appointment, and they do not have a conditioning treatment session with steam after relaxing your hair, the place was clean, and the stylists were friendly and seemed pretty knowledgable. I have been to much better salons (Azan's in Toronto is particularly great), but I was happy enough to make a second appointment. So I show up for my appointment about 5 minutes before the scheduled time. The website says to show up a half hour in advance, but given my experience the first time, 5 minutes was plenty. I go to open the door... and it's locked! I wait around until a few minutes after my scheduled appointment time... and it's still locked. I go home and call, and she tells me that she "must have just been coming through the back door". No apology, and she acts like I'm the idiot for not waiting around in case she deigned to make an appearance. Wow. I will not be going back there, so if anyone knows of a good place in Ottawa for black hair, let me know.

Not like many other so-called hair dressers that probably took a week long course and set up a shop afterwards. She takes the time to see what problems you may have with your hair and sets up a regiment for you to maintain even after visits. The salon is clean and professionally decorated. The owner is super nice and friendly and actually sticks to appointments. She doesn't make you wait 5 hours while trying to do 5 chicks hair at a time. She is also great with weaves and reasonably priced. She is not cheap (but not expensive either) but it reflects in her work. I've been going to her for 3 years and I would definitely recommend this as a go to place in Ottawa and am GLAD I found it.
