I've been a member of Seattle Credit Union for 30 years. I've closed my savings and credit card accounts due to their ridiculous fees for inactivity. I'm being penalized because I don't rack up debt??? This is terrible customer service and terrible business. They claim it costs them money - I call BS. They make a ton of money on interest alone. It's a rip off to charge fees of this type! Good riddance - you've lost a once loyal customer! Financial institutions should be ashamed for these outrageous fees! read more

We've been at this bank for almost a decade. Whatever has happened to the internal leadership structure of this bank, it has changed radically and we are leaving, taking both our business and our personal accounts. On February 26th we contacted customer support about our QuickBooks online no longer connecting. QuickBooks informed us it was not on their side and so we followed up with SCU. It is now over a month later and we have gotten nothing but the runaround and lack of follow-up. We have had to continually had to initiate follow-up and we have continually been told, "We're working on it." Okay! We're working on leaving. Most unprofessional bank I've ever dealt with at this point. Who leaves a business customer hanging for a month with their accounting? Seattle Credit Union does, so business owners you've been told. This is the most unprofessional bank experience I have ever dealt with. Whatever has happened to the leadership structure there. y'all should get out. They don't give a damn about their customers, clearly. Be sure to read the canned statement below, that will no doubt be cut and pasted in to tell me they are so very sorry, and please contact them. I have every banked with seattle credit union for over 7 yrs I applied for a job type deal of driving around with a advertisement on my car I got a check for 2600.00 dollars and deposited it thru the ATM and it said on my receipt that I could access 100 dollars that was all I was allowed in 2 days the check cleared and I had access to funds I deposited it on 23 posted on 25 and had access to funds on the 28th I got a returned check from.them say funds were no good well long storey short they should u clear check let me access fund the tell me I owe for the check they let me access and are telling me it never posted how.could I access fund it it wasn't cleared this is so wrong I was a victim of a scam a scam now they want me too p huh hĥĵj read more

Look it's my for still banking here but changing banks is a hassle. Which is why you ought to be sooo careful where you bank. With no commentary I will simply relay todays events. I've been needing to withdraw some money but your options are limited with SCU. The Georgetown branch is the only traditional branch in the south end as far as I'm aware. Weekdays are tough to make their hours so i stopped by today (Saturday), Of course its closed Saturdays. One could legitimately question why your one full service branch is the one you close on a Saturday. Either way I decided to run to the Tukwilla branch to see what could be done. I've learned my lesson about going to burien for anything. I arrived at the Tukwilla branch and explained my predicament. Here I learned something new. They have an atm in branch with a $20,000 dollar withdrawal limit. Cool, problem solved. I go to the machine to withdraw $3000 and boom, I get an error message about the bill distribution. So I ask for help, the fella comes over, we try again, boom same thing. He says " I guess it's not working" and explains it often doesn't work. But the Rainer ave branch has a machine, they close in 22 min. Maps shows im 24 min away. Can you call them I ask, tell them im coming straight there maybe they can hold the door. Nope no can do. Okay heres an idea, raise my withdrawal limit so i can use the normal atm, he would be happy to do that but dont ya know the system that handles that function is down. My problem is that in spite of multiple failures on behalf of this institution to provide access to my money, they were unwilling to make a 2 minute accommodation to rectify their problems. They simply don't care. And at every opportunity they make that fact known to you. Buyer beware. read more

I had to come in to pick up a check today for my car loan and despite Covid it was very sanitary and the customer service of Johnni was so great she was above and beyond kind and courteous and helped explain the process in addition she notarize some paperwork for my insurance company thank you so much for the great service in the car loan too read more

I have been with Seattle CU for 40 years. The customer representatives are now mostly incompetent. Over the last 6 months have had issues with credit card transactions being declined, many problems with the mobile app which has worked fine for me up till the last year. I have spent way too many hours on hold trying to figure these issues out with people who know very little about the issues. It's very frustrating and time wasting. FIRST: make sure your people answering questions are competent to solve problems. SECOND: When there are functions of online banking that are only available by using the mobile app (such as card control) please make sure the app actually works. It did not for me and no one could find any answers. Might want to find a new app developer. read more

I understand trying to appeal to a different generation and trying make the tukwila location more hip but when you can't even access cash unless you use the ATM and all it will give you is 50 $10 bills???? Who the heck wants 50 ten dollar bills? When I asked one of the employees if I could get cash in larger denominations she suggested I drive to the Seattle location??? That's the only option. I have been a customer of Seattle Credit Union for several years and I have been pleased over and over again and with incredibly attentive service, excellent banking policies, and most importantly the refreshing feeling of being treated like a human being. Everything about my experiences with Seattle Credit Union so far have the undertone of cooperation. They want to provide services that benefit both of us, not just them. Never once have I seen the crocodile smile that is so common from your average corporate bank employee. By far the worst customer service from the loan officers in all locations. Sarah Jimenez and Jose Valdez are horrible so please avoid them. I've had to submit an application 3 times. Once I got my purchase order, the front "desk" person told me it would take an hour to get approved from the higher ups aka my loan officer. 2 hours goes by and I call my loan officer to check the status, and he says that I'll "most likely have to wait til tomorrow since it's getting close to closing time." Which mean he never sent it out at all for it get approved. They close at 6pm and I called him at 4:25pm. Pure laziness and careless. read more

Although the Rainier Valley branch is officially my home branch, I've adopted this one as my new favorite. This branch is far more convenient seeing that I work in the area. The staff here is always beyond helpful every time I'm here. Love coming here. read more

This is a review of the facilities rather than the services. Or maybe both. But they moved from being their previous location in Tukwila, to Southcenter Parkway close to the Dress Barn or something. It's ridiculous to me. There are no real tellers. They walk around with laptops. You have to get your money from the ATM. What's the point of that? I can transfer money between accounts and then use the ATM. That not why I go inside a bank. I'm not sure what this hand off approach is about, but it's anything but convenient. I went to the ATM after having my money transferred (something I could've done from my phone) and I wanted 20s. It gave me two 50s. So I had to tell them I wanted 20s. Couldn't this extra step been avoided had they just given me the cash I requested, usually asking how I preferred receiving my money, versus telling me to use the ATM and then getting my money from the back or wherever she went to get it in the denominations I wanted it? It's all high tech in there. Whatever. But why get rid of tellers and just have a bunch of ATMs? I just feel this new location is so impersonal and not as convenient as the old location. It's extra unnecessary steps. read more

This is more a review of the SMCU loan process than this particular branch where we opened our mandatory savings account in order to move forward with our home equity loan application. We were pre-approved for a home equity loan at a rate which was higher than what they advertised, but whatever, this would help lower our monthly debt by about $400. Fast forward about a couple weeks later, they rejected our application at underwriting since they said our 401k loans would be included in our DTI ratio which they never mentioned when they pre-approved us. Typical bait and switch. Going back to BECU which everyone should do. Stay away from SMCU, especially their loans! read more

Early January2014, I went to SMCU to get a $3000. Cashiers Check. After signing all the paperwork to deduct the money from my account, I was told there was no Cashiers Check paper. Really? I found this bizarre. So, the clerk gave me some checks to use to withdraw the money so I could write the check which I was planning on depositing into my BECU account. I asked her what she was going to do with all the paperwork I had signed to get my money. She said she would take care of it. I found it odd, but left. Over a month passes and the same day, I get a letter from BECU saying I had insufficient funds for that check, as my SMCU balance was 2500 dollars.The same day, I get my statement from SMCU which shows the $3000.00 deduction from the Cashiers check I never received, with a $2500.00 balance. All I could think was, where did my money go? Was this a scam? Was this clerk ripping me off? So, I went to BECU first, to see what a manager there thought and she found it wierd it had not been caught at end of the day. Then I met with the manager at SMCU, Dayton Hughes. I asked when I described the employee first, if she still worked there. He said yes, she was on vacation. Later, I thought it odd that he told me she was new. Well, how does a new employee have vacation? Hmm..Something was not right. I was concerned she was on vacation with my 3000 dollars!!! He found my money and apologized. The ironic thing was they even charged me $28.00 for overdraft. For what? BECU never got my money, because they screwed up! Mr. Hughes told me they would make it up to me by giving me a gift card with a substantial amount, and recommended a couple restaurants at South Center, that I do not patronize. I said I would take a Starbucks card. I said this twice, though he mentioned Target, which I do not shop at either. I told him I would be closing this account, there was no excuse for no paper and no excuse this clerk did not fix the problem. He agreed and was profusely apologetic. So, within a week, Mr. Huges sends me a $30.00 Target card. I have to say, I realize he did not have to do anything, but put little thought into this. For one thing, I said "Starbucks" twice and I had to drive to the credit union (after I had already been in the area the day before) and when I got the Target card, I had to go to Target, to buy a Starbucks card. I spent more money and time on gas, than worth the 30 dollars which I was told they probably got for free! I just feel they did not think me taking my 5000 dollars out was a big deal. This was extremely stressful worry about what happened. I will stick with BECU. I have been with them for close to 30 years with no screw ups. SMCU did not care they lost my business. It was also recommended I have credit reports and scores done after this mess. I do not trust this employee is still there, or honest. And I have not found this the friendliest place to do business either. read more

Only giving one star because zero stars isn't possible. We have our mortgage at Seattle Credit Union and it is a consistent headache to deal with them. Misplaced funds, misapplied funds, improper things reported to my credit, statements with wrong accounts on them, untrained staff, the new terrible branch idea in Tukwila, an atm machine that is broken almost every time I go in to the branch. SMCU is the worst bank in Seattle. Do not take you business here. They bought my credit union and it has been a horrible experience. Everything from losing my account info to processing payments incorrectly. Now they are getting rid of tellers. Horrible. Please save yourself! read more

I am very pleased with SMCU. Angelica and From are very helpful and very informative. Nina (unsure what branch but called from my online application) is clearly an expert in financing and was able to exceed my expectations when no other credit union or bank in the Seattle area could.
