Gotta love free magazines. Especially ones that provide articles you don't find anywhere else. It…read morekind of reminds me of a mixture of Utne, Yoga Journal, and Vegetarian Times with a side of The Nation. Plus, no escort ads in the back! You would expect to find articles on spirtuality, yoga, organic food and sometimes art and politics. And best of all, most of its articles deal with local issues. This month there is an article on Washington's Green Vineyard Tour and Matt's in the Market, which I am now going to check out. Among some of the things you find in the classifieds: free yoga classes every saturday at 2:30 pm, a monthly movie series that presents problems and offers solutions, a free Transcendental Mediation session (I myself am not a follower of TM but am interested in checking it out), and much more. Check it out, and I guarantee you will get your moneys worth. Zipzap Zubidy Bop!

They have their money where their mouth is. Gotta respect…read morethem for that! The staff is very active in personally and with no pay volunteering and promoting their values. I volunteered for them at a booth at the Fremont Festival. I got to describe to people the merits an duse of an electric car. It was really fun and I learned a lot. I also got a cute green shirt, a little earth-friendly bag and a gift certificate from cafe Flora. i respect and appreciate that greatly. Like any media,, at times, they may feature a business or organization which has soem customer difficulties.. like all, they don't respond to calls to editor. I hope they read or listen to the comments. It always feel bad when a group whom I admire allows a business with poor customer service free coverage. Many deserve coverage. I am not the editor and as I ponder this dilemna.. I may not wish to be.

We stumbled upon Indoor Sun Shoppe during the Fremont Sunday Market and honestly it might have been…read morethe best accidental detour of the whole outing. This place is stunning. Like, stop-in-your-tracks, take-a-slow-lap-just-to-take-it-all-in stunning. The selection is incredible and the space itself is just lush and beautiful. It's the kind of plant store that makes you want to become a more responsible plant parent immediately (or if you are already plant nerds, it's heaven). Whether you're a serious horticulture person or just someone who likes wandering through something green and alive, this is worth your time. I went in with no agenda and left very inspired (and may have carried something home). A true gem.

I occasionally visit Indoor Sun Shoppe because they have a great selection of air plants. The two…read moreyounger women who work there are awesome--always friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Unfortunately, my experience with the older man who works there has been very different. On several visits, I noticed him following me around the store. It was obvious to me that he was not trying to assist me; it felt more like I was being watched with suspicion. The experience reminded me of the Korean store owner scene in Menace II Society. I do not appreciate being made to feel like a second-rate citizen or being treated with passive suspicion. As a brown man who drives down from Edmonds to shop here, I should be able to browse and spend my money without feeling like I am being watched simply because I do not fit someone's idea of who belongs in the store. I enjoy the selection and appreciate the excellent service from the two younger women, but this repeated experience has made my visits uncomfortable and disappointing.

Occasionally clients…read morehave last minute print requests and I found myself in that situation a couple of months ago. After emailing and leaving messages for five local print businesses, only two responded -- one of them was Seattle Printworks. Seattle Printworks was the only one who truly wanted to help...at a reasonable price point...and within the deadline I requested. After providing them w the specs for my order, everything was produced exactly as I wanted. They even offered to ship materials for me if that would help -- something the other vendor didn't offer. When another project popped up, Seattle Printworks was my first call...and...once again, they did a great job. I've spoken to Michaela, Sonny, and other teammates. All have been friendly, helpful, and professional as they guided me through details like types of paper stock and finishes. I'm so grateful to have found a local business committed to customer service and producing quality products. Seattle Printworks was a lucky find that won me over w their service, value, and quality of work -- they will always be my first call!
