Seattle Met is one of the two primary magazines that covers the Seattle area. Seattle Magazine is the other. Choosing between the two is difficult as they cover the same subjects. Similar to the battle between the alternative weeklies, The Stranger and Seattle Weekly, it comes down to personal preference. Like Seattle Magazine, ads take up a huge chunk of each edition. There are a number of feature stories each month though that there are worth a read like the one in the current issue on Pike Place Market. Though I find that it would be better if they stuck with local features rather than commenting on current topics. A small half page in the current issue discusses reasons why the Mariners should trade Felix Hernandez which sounds a bit heinous. Best to leave this commentary to the Times and ESPN to cover. Seattle Met should just stick with what they are good at which is covering food, shopping, attractions with local human interest stories thrown into the mix. Seattle Met is even with Seattle Magazine when it comes to the print edition. Though I have to say that I do prefer the Met's website as it includes a number of blogs that are worth a read. read more

Each year, "Seattle Met" publishes a list of 'Top Doctors,' who are voted by the health care practitioners in the Seattle area as their most esteemed peers. But can you trust those results? In June 2014, I went to a podiatrist at "Issaquah Foot and Ankle Specialist" for a small bump that was caused by rubbing with a stiff shoe. The podiatrist misdiagnosed it as bunion, did a bunion surgery that was not even required, and botched it. The surgery left my left leg permanently impaired. I went to this podiatrist because of his glowing reviews on Facebook, Google, Yelp and other doctor review sites. I let my guard down in the examination room and trusted him, and didn't seek a second opinion -- a decision I'll regret for the rest of my life. After the botched surgery, I started looking at this podiatrist's reviews closely and realized that most of his glowing reviews were fake! Over the years, I saw tons of this podiatrist's earlier fake reviews were removed, and new fake reviews were added. This podiatrist was named a "Top Doctor" in podiatry by "Seattle Met" in 2011 and 2012. If a doctor who manipulates reviews in order to dupe patients can be voted "Top Doctor," then I think the selection process is flawed, and the results cannot be trusted! read more

Seattle Metropolitan has, apparently, renamed itself "Seattle Met." I'm not sure what the point is supposed to be/what "image" that is supposed to convey. I'm also not sure why I have apparently been given a "free trial subscription." An issue showed up at my door last month, and another a few days ago. I never signed up for this and don't know where they got my name/address. Per the mailing label, it looks like I am going to get another issue next month. So, since I had them anyhow, I looked through the two issues I have received. I was completely unimpressed. The magazine is 90% advertisements and even the so-called "editorial content" is really just more not-so-thinly-veiled advertisement. I have no interest in this. Both issues have gone straight to the recycle bin. I don't see why anyone would actually pay $4.99 for 150 pages of ads at the newsstand. read more

I look forward to my Seattle Metro, it is a proper magazine that from time to time has left the realm of delightful and proven useful. The articles are interesting and sometimes opinionated... which is correctly Seattle. All this is enough to earn them three stars but the fourth comes from the exceptional customer service, I just received. I didn't renew in time to get the February issue (which I really wanted to read) however, I jotted down a little request to be sent the Feb. issue with my check and guess what showed up in the mail yesterday, not just February but the January issue as well. It made my day and made me a bigger fan. read more

I just canceled my subscription to this magazine upon viewing their "Sanctuary City" February 2017 cover. Upon returning to the city after several years, I wanted to catch up on all of the great things Seattle, and surrounding area, have to offer. Most unfortunately, they have decided to happily hop onto "the law doesn't matter" political bandwagon, and it makes me sick. Just purchased the seattle met summer edition great PNW getaways and mountains to climb. Sadly, I was very disappointed in seattle met. The magazine is spammed with large numbers of advertisements and little content. The cover article was only 4 tiny pages and disappointing in content. The mountain summit article only suggested the most obvious and well known climbs like pilchuck, granite, Raineer, and St. Helens. It could be this was just a bad edition but I think all will be over flowing with ads. Hope you turn it around seattle met. read more

We are multi-year subscribers to Seattle Met and several other magazines. Recently, we had to reflect on how many of these we truly read (ideally) cover-to-cover. Seattle Met made the cut because of the great and timely news on local events and sometimes awesome cover features like a great in-depth article on Rainier (the mountain - the beer got less ink). As with the Seattle Times, SM has recognized that this region is politically very blue whereas the nationally elected government has moved in a radically different direction. I applaud both for offering witty and encouraging articles about this inconvenient divide. Most of us could never keep up with the constantly rotating openings and closings of great foodie spots or plans for the next great food truck. They do. I do the 4* treatment because they should tweak their boundaries a bit more often beyond Seattle and I find the ongoing series of Top Doctors (lawyers, dentists...) excruciatingly dull - even as I recognize it generates good ad income in those months when it is soft. Cie la vie. As magazines go, it is inexpensive, stunningly relevant, and offers good insight into politics in our region. Throw in great entertainment and dining tips and you have something worthy of keeping next time you realize it is time to triage the publication list. read more

What a missed opportunity! This magazine needs to decide whether to make the bulk of their money off of advertisers (in which case loading it to the brim with ads and having very few feature stories is completely appropriate, but then it should be given out for nearly free..), or, sell it for 5 bucks and try to make the revenue mostly from sales. If I pay 5 bucks, attracted by the usually pretty cool feature piece, I should not be subject to pages and pages of ads...The magazine almost feels like the free brochures you can pick up at any hotel or car rental place. Most often, the feature story leaves me underwhelmed as well - not much substance, mostly just flashy headlines without enough descriptions or explanations. As I said, a huge missed pportunity, given the cultural richness and natural beauty of the Seattle area, and so many adventuous locals and newcomers who would be really interested in a one stop shop magazine to get the most out of living here. read more
