How do you stay in business with mediocre & poor customer service? Today was the last day of my monthly unlimited that I purchased, but I was unable to come in due to being ill. I call and ask if I could have a courtesy extension to use it tomorrow, a flat out no is your response. And then the woman goes on and on about selling me new tanning packages. (she babbled like a used car salesperson). Talk about trying to keep customer retention. I am glad you feel so empowered in your menial front desk job that you would not even engage in a better dialogue with me. Should you need to tan the body, then Seattle Tan is where you wanna FAKE & BAKE. Good state of the art skin baking beds to burn of some epidural layers off your carcass. But hey that's why your here, YES. Frank recommends you tanning in the more expensive beds because you spend less time and get a better tan. Or if you want old school beds you have the option also for your cheapness! Only downer is the confusing disorganized plans to tan. franks advice keep it simple and less confusing. Staff is exceptionally friendly and warm.. Never a hassle setting up. Always was able to get in and out in the most comfortable way possible. The ladies meticulously clean all the equipment and maintain the area to the highest standard. The location is pretty much centered around making their clients feel the most at ease and relaxed. So I have been an ongoing monthly paying regular of Seattle Sun tan for on on off about 10 years. The last 5 years I have consistently been paying monthly to be tanning member. I have exclusively always gone to West Seattle because it's convienant, and most of the time the gals have always been super nice and sweet. I'm a pretty hard working bartender and make enough money normally to get by and can treat myself to have a tanning membership. All though I don't make time to go very much. my work schedule hardly allows it!! When i was laid off my bartending gig in March. I was super freaked out about money, as I should be. It's been terrible for myself and others in my industry. (And obviously so many more people!) Knowing that I would not be able to afford this expenditure... I tried to call the salon to see what I needed to do, to cancel. No answer there. Went on to the website and saw that they want you to go in person to cancel your membership... I vaguely remember having this problem a few years ago when moving to Hawaii.. I was never able to cancel but did something along the lines of having my monthly payments go down, but not canceling and it was only for a period of time. It's been so long, I have no idea what I'm to do to cancel. i sent emails asking for help, tried calling, messaged the facebook. But was left with no help. So i decided I would keep the membership, until I absolutely can't justify, and am suuuper broke. haha. Unfortunately around a couple months ago, I had a fraud case I had to deal with at my bank. The bank issued me a new debit card number immediately. I'm wondering if this is why when i Went in on Thursday night of **Edit date was:September 10, 2020** woman behind the counter told me I owed $70. So on top of fighting this fraud thing where a bunch of my funds disappeared, this has made money tight. Not having realized I owed $70. I asked the gal if there was any way, since I'd been a monthly paying member for over 5 years, If I could just pay to tan for the day. I was so looking forward to just starting to be getting color!! and wanting to keep it on me! I literally could not afford to pay the total that day.. but intended to work it all out to continue membership. I explained to the girl working, I've been paying over $35 a month for 5 years, she confirmed this with me, and I also pointed out, haven't even tanned in a couple years or so, that I have still remained a loyal customer... Even more so now through covid! Which is nuts of me, because my schedule never allows me to have time to tan! I finally find the time to get there and was super excited, to tan... after years of monthly payments. The girl working treated me so terribly and was downright nasty, to the point of bringing me to tears. i asked if she would get permission from a manager.. said again i'd love to just pay for the single tan and in good faith would get my membership figured out, just didn't have the funds to pay it until my next unemployment payment came in, the beginning of the following week. Unbelievably the woman rudely cut me off, immediately told me no without giving me a chance to explain myself. This woman... (thin young woman/ I also didn't see any other women working) she actually yelled at me, even cursed at me, cutting me off when I was trying to explain myself. the woman used the the F word and told me to "f**** OFF",after i asked if she would check with a manager to see if I could tan for the day (having been a loyal 10 year customer ) I was so embarrassed and hurt. I asked for her name and she refused to give it to me and continued to embarass me and yell over everyone that i needed to leave the store. I was so hurt and upset. i tried standing up for myself and firmly without curse words or yelling, explained this behaivior was not ok. I asked for her name, then i was told told to get the F**** out.. she refused to give me her managers name and continued to curse at me. she said it was policy to not give her name or the manager and that she was the manager on duty. I have contemplated contacting Seattle Sun Tan about this issue, and been fighting myself about wether or not I should complain and cancel my membership after 10 years. Being treated this way hurt so much, especially with the fragile state, i think we are all feeling these days. I'm so very hurt and I hope your company will help to make this right. my boyfriend is coming home after being gone for 2 months and I wanted to build up my tan before he got back home. but well he's back tomorrow and i finally got the courage to put this out there. Again this was the night of September 12, 2020 on a thursday. It was about an hour before the salon closed. I don't want to find a new tanning salon to go to. I hope this can be resolved. The Best deal in town for tanning! I came to this Seattle Sun Tan location because I got a groupon as a gift for Christmas and I am going to Hawaii soon. I have been here before when it was another tanning place and I was not impressed, but Seattle Sun Tan has really changed the place. With new beds, floors, decor, and new people who are much more friendly. I usually am not a fan of the up-sale, but this was a offer I just could not refuse. I was able to enroll in a monthly membership at student price for under a dollar with my groupon (which only was $10) and pay only $20 a month for unlimited tanning. I also got a free week of tanning with any of their beds. You can cancel at anytime or put a hold on your membership if you are going out of town. I like to have a little glow all year and this deal was the cheapest I have found in West Seattle, plus I can use it at any of their salons. read more

Beware!!! I did a one month membership. It was cut short because of Covid. I didn't expect to get any money back. Apparently they've reopened, I never got an email or anything saying that they're open again. Meanwhile, I've been out of town for two months. I noticed a charge for $54.99, I called them and they said that I needed to call the cooperate office. I've left three messages and an email and have gotten no response. First off, I am prefacing this review by letting the reader know this review is primarily regarding their Versa spa (the sunless tanning option). I have been sunless tanning for about 8 months and usually go to Desert Sun up the street, a little further from my house. However, I mistakenly gave this place a second chance (after my first package purchased here I was unhappy too). To save yourself some time, you can bypass this review and go to Desert Sun by QFC for your tanning. It is cleaner, in an easier-to-park location, and the employees are so much nicer and not pushy sales people like at Seattle Sun Tan. Ok, why the 1 star you ask?! So I purchased $100 of tanning on Friday. Like I have 1-2 a week for the last 8 months at Desert Sun, I did a clear Versa on Friday at level 2... As my Friday progressed, I realize I am not getting tan. This was the 2nd time I purchased a package here and been unhappy... Their Versa does not work as well as Desert Sun!.. Not to mention I have brought it to their attention the last two times after getting my packages: The first time a manager was supposed to call me back and never did and this time the girl working tries to sell me an airbrush! I made it very clear I was unhappy with my spray tan because it did not make me tan. This freaking girl has the nerve to try and sell me on an "Airbrush Spray Tan" saying she could give me "20% off even though she is not supposed to." Are you kidding me?!! I just purchased $100 worth of tans and now you want me to buy $45 more to get tan by you airbrushing me?!!!!!!!! She was not empathetic to the fact I was unhappy with my lack of tan. To conclude, I will try their Versa once more to see if it works better. If it does not, I will have to bypass their "No Return" policy by calling VISA and doing a chargeback. Although Seattle Sun Tan does not believe the notion "The customer is always right," I am sure my high limit VISA feels otherwise. read more

The employees are very knowledgeable and will help you with a regimen that will get you darker faster. Ohhh, I really do love Seattle Sun Tan. I was a Desert Sun customer for many years, right after I first moved to Washington and didn't know any better. I don't want to say that DS is terrible, but I never felt that satisfied with the customer service, the amount I was paying, or the results I was getting for the time and money I put in. I feel MUCH better about Seattle Sun Tan. I wish I would've just switched sooner, or never bothered with DS to begin with. I've been to two Seattle Sun Tan locations (Issaquah and West Seattle) and they are both nice, clean, well-kept salons. They have the normal range of tanning booths (low to super-high and sunless) that are new and up-to-date and well-maintained. I've only gone tanning a couple of times in the last few months, and every single time I walked out with some noticeable color and glow that lasted a few days or more. Unfortunately, this hasn't happened for me at other salons... there were times that I had to go tanning 3-4 days in a row before I saw any difference. I'm not sure if Seattle Sun Tan is changing their bulbs more often or are just more honest about the quality of their beds, but I appreciate not having to tan as often in order to get the same results. I like their pricing structure better, as well. You open a sort of 'bank account' that you add money to, and then deduct from each time you buy a tan. They aren't necessarily cheaper than other salons, and they do offer some packages (like unlimited monthly tanning in low-level beds,) but it's just nice not to be constantly pressured into buying expensive packages that have confusing terms and I might not use enough to get my money's worth. Plus, Seattle Sun Tan offers discount codes and 'free tan days' WAY more often than any other salon I've been to- it seems like once every two weeks I'm getting a free session in a decent bed. I am a big fan of all other SST locations. However, this specific location has been nothing short of disappointing. Almost every time in the last 3 months, the sunless booth has either not been working or they forgot to purchase more solution. Not only that, but often times the employees are completely careless about the customers as many of us go out of our way to walk or drive all the way here, only to be turned away. I was in there last Tuesday evening and the employee was on the phone figuring out her shift with another employee for at least 5 minutes as 4 people piled up in line. It's very unprofessional here and unrepresentative of all other locations, of which I have been more than satisfied at each. ***********Update 6.28.2016************** They changed management back in January or something because everything has changed drastically! The employees are super sweet and professional, the place is more clean, the beds are always working, and it truly feels like it is fully representing the SST brand. I used to tan at the Ballard location, but now after a few visits to this location, I'm in love! this salon has the best and cutest atmosphere out of any other location. i love that this salon has a more private feel than most other salons! I signed up for a package and was using it regularly for about 2 months. When i finally decided I didn't want it anymore, I remembered the cancellation policy they told me about when signing up which said you needed to cancel by the 15th, so I went in and cancelled on the 1st of the month. That was my last time in and I thought the end of it....until a month and a half later when I saw a charge on my card again. I called and was told that they didn't have a record of me cancelling, but I could reach out to the customer support team to resolve. Also, I couldn't re-cancel over the phone, so I would need go back in to cancel...AGAIN. When I reached out to customer service, they responded with canned responses and took no responsibility that this was an error made by one of their employees, not me. I followed the steps, they didn't execute them correctly to cancel the account, which is why they can't find any record of it, which they kept holding up as the "holy grail" of proof that I didn't cancel. Throughout all of this I NEVER got any emailed or printed documentation, not when I signed up for the plan nor when I cancelled (either time), which is why I didn't expect to get anything when i originally cancelled on the 1st. MAKE SURE TO GET A COPY OF EVERYTHING IN WRITING...because they are never going to email it to you. Very shady and bad business practices. Moral of the story : The customer is NEVER right at Seattle Sun Tan...so beware! read more

They are charging 200% more for lotions ($90 when you can buy the same bottle on Amazon for $30). Recommending tanning here but DO NOT buy product from them. Be careful with store credit - they will not let you buy anything on sale, only at full price! I was refunded some tanning packages I purchased and they gave me in-store credit, about $245. I went in to take advantage of the annual sale yesterday and they told me I can only buy products at full price - the sale prices do not apply. Corporate said this is company policy, but I was not advised of this when I turned in the packaged for store credit. This is just a shady operation all around. read more

Generally not very great service. Most of the staff that have any sort of skill move on to bigger and better things as they should. Mostly pleasant experiences and good machines. If you never plan to leave and aren't a seasonal tanner like myself be weary. Record your account termination documentation. I called to terminate my account in February and was told I had to do that in person so I came in minutes later and ended my monthly subscription with SST. A month later I was charged again and I came in to ask them about it they said it was due to not ending my membership before there 30 day billing cycle. Seems like bs but that's fine rules are rules. Fast forward to post covid restrictions I notice 4 months of billing statements from them. I give them a call and get a bitchy dits on the phone who knows absolutely nothing and gets an attitude with any line of questions. I used to work retail and understand how bad customers can get so I can empathize generally and try not hassle them with petty things I can sort myself. When this gal picked up the phone you could just hear her seething with annoyance, couldn't answer any questions, didn't know who was in charge of billing or how to contact them. I emailed the company and was told I never canceled as that it was impossible for me to have canceled because it would be in their computer... didn't matter that I told them when I came in. They offered to give $135 in store credit to compensate for $180 in fraudulent charges. I declined the offer and asked simply for the charges passed my termination date to be refunded. Then they got nasty so I was forced to contact my financial institution to have the charges disputed. Not difficult to do but you would think when you confront a business about a discrepancy they would own it. I enjoy tanning in the winter mostly for vitamin D but damn I don't think It's worth the trouble. Some of their staff is great but their management has the personality and charm of an ingrown toe nail. read more

Don't trust the gimmick sales! For starters, the $1 membership sounds great but know that you will pay $50 for the second month of membership as part of the "fine print". There's the second problem with this place-there's never anything upfront or to read and understand terms of their "sales". If you do sign up for the membership and eventually decide to cancel because you're not using it enough to be worth $50/month Then you must cancel a couple days before then end of billing cycle and not the last day or else you will be charged for the next month with no refund. 4th issue, they will try to talk you into not canceling and instead "freezing the membership" at $5 per month.....The draw is that the give you $5 credit each month your on hold and in the end when you decide to re-activate the membership then you get $10 credit (from your $5 and their $5) for each month it was frozen. So say 5 months then $50 in credit.......hmmmm, NOT SO EASY. Try re-activating your membership to get and apply your credit, they don't mention there's an ADDITIONAL fee to reactivity on top of the regular month membership fee! Ugh! 5th issue heads up- all the membership or monthly freeze charges auto debit off your credit or debit card so you may have money siphoning out of your account silently if you're not super paying attention to account charges. P.S. The customer service varies at this location from unknowledgeable or unfriendly to friendly and ok. read more

The male manager is a totally gem! I am someone who shops at Barney's and is all about product. That being said, his product knowledge on skin care and tanning elements is genius! A friend of mine gave me a coupon to this tanning salon for a free week of tanning. I am a pretty pasty person and I tend to burn before I tan, so I wanted to 'fake and bake' a few times before heading out to Vegas to prep my skin. A FREE week of tanning, who can pass up that great deal right? So I went to the tanning salon with my bottle of tanning lotion I bought at a drug store expecting not to spend any money there. Well....the girl working there greeted me and was extremely friendly. She explained the different tanning packages that were available and the difference in the different level beds. She wasn't very pushy into making me feel like I NEEDED to buy a package, but she was pretty convincing in showing me that purchasing a package would be a much better deal especially since my free week of tanning would be upgraded so that I would be able to use the higher level beds. Not only was she able to convince me to buy a package, but I also got suckered into buying a tanning lotion there as well. (Did you know JWOW from Jersey Shore has her own tanning lotion line?! And yes, I ended up buying one of her lotions as recommended by the sales girl) Even though initially I wasn't planning on spending money here but ended up doing so, I don't feel like I got hustled into buying something I didn't want to buy. The salon is incredibly clean and the beds are all very new and clean as well. The staff is great, friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, I would definitely recommend this tanning salon. read more

I used to go the the Renton landing but I came to this one in West Seattle and was really impressed with how nice and friendly the employees were compared to the Renton landing one. It is very clean. I even like that there are water bottles. This is definitely the only tanning salon I would go to. A lot of other salon's employees are really stuck up. Not here though. read more

I really like this location due to the friendly employees and quick service. I've rarely ever had to wait and the women that work here do their best given that there is only about 1 or 2 employees working at a time. The only thing that I do not like about the company in general is the pricing. As a school teacher that doesn't make a whole bunch of money and uses the red light therapy to treat psoriasis, the monthly charges and cost of packages puts a big dent in my wallet. The online prices advertised do not reflect the cost of packages and only show the bare minimum (which gets you nothing). read more

I tried this out as its close to home. Went in and did a week of level 2. Not only did I hear whining from the sales people everytime, but also got freak outs over reciept paper and their scheduals. Furthermore theyre not helpful with lotions, and if you want to be a member they take your credit info to automatically take money out every month. I was in this location on a Monday around noon; convenient location with plenty of parking and no wait time. This location was pleasantly air conditioned, very clean and the customer service was excellent. I work in several different locations throughout the week and love that my membership allows me to tan at any one of their locations. Also love that there are several locations that are always easy to find. I've been to this location and the one in Renton; both very clean, great customer service, minimal wait time if any and I've never experienced any sales pressure. read more

I really hesitate to leave a review due to fear of retaliation by a staff member there. Like Jason in the review below, I also had an issue that I won't get into specifics about because I legitimately worry she will do something with my information that the salon has. The first situation was horrendous and if i didn't pay so much for a package i would have never returned. Like the people below me have said, she refused to give her name and I too was cursed at and told "what the F are you going to do about it (and said my full name)?" as a veiled threat. It took months to get the courage to go back and I had to have my boyfriend sit in his car while I went in. I did nothing wrong in the situation and I will never EVER return now that my package is used up. Word of caution if you decide to go to this location by the West Seattle Bridge, do what they say, let them overcharge you, and you should be fine. read more

Buyer beware! Employees go for the hard sell and tell you that the $xx package is the best deal. However they fail to tell you that shelling out that money is only part of it. You're still charged $35 a month additionally. For what? I'm not sure. When I emailed inquiring about what the charge was for, the response was "you signed the agreement. You should have known. Great tanning salon. Very clean and typically always have a bed available. The staff is friendly and helpful.

First I am not a big tanner. I was just coming in to get a base before a vacation to mexico, so I wouldn't burn. I paid for two visits, The first went Ok. The second was horrible. I burned, Plus the burn was blotchy. Also the little stickys for your eyes stuck to my lower eyelid and slid below my eyes leaving big untanned circles under my eyes. The upshot was instead of burning the first day of vacation I burned the day before the vacation. On my vacation I spent the first three days out of the sun and then had to do all sorts of weird contortions to even out the tan from Seattle sun tan. read more

Dirty Dirty Beds, i have been a member for years and this place has hit rock bottom, I have had dirty beds on 6 seperate occasions, I spoke with the manager about the employee who clearly has no clue on sanitation and the following day she was verbally abusive and has been ever since.. it is poorly ran by snot nosed Children who have no concept on customer service or basic cleanliness..
