Abby should be fired. Absolutely zero customer service skills, disrespectful and rude. I came in was told I had to wait 10 mins, they made me pay for my tan after 10 mins to speed up things they said. After 30 mins of me sitting watching them allow others to tan that just walked in. I asked how long it would be Abby was very rude to me and said other appointments walked in. I asked why she quoted me 10 mins and didn't inform me of that while I was waiting. I asked for a refund Abby then claimed they have no refunds. I asked for the managers information and she refused. I will be calling every day until I reach a manager and get a refund. CAUTION: Do not ask a question -you could be kicked out: If you have been waiting for 15 min and hear them loudly talk poorly about another coworker and say excuse me can we go in now after 10- mins or more this gal had piles of dirt everywhere and was more worried about her personal phone call. I had a very bad experience at this tanning salon. I went in the salon to tan and I was told that I didn't have an account. I paid my membership the previous week. The representative at the salon was rude, condescending, and she should not have a job in customer service. I sent an email to corporate and it has been a week. I requested a refund and that a manager contact me. I have not heard from anyone, the only response that I got was an automatic email stating that someone will contact me within 48 hours. Another 5* star experience at this location. Management Kenzie runs a tight ship the location is always immaculate and the staff is always detailing and deep cleaning when it's not busy. I've never had anything less than. Excellent Exceptional customer service and the feeling of a sense of belonging here. Edit: as you can see per previous reviews, this seems to be an ongoing issue. Also blaming the customer for the employee personally stating that the signature was not needed because of computer issues is not MY fault!!! Quit blaming the customers and hold your employees accountable for their actions!! SCAM ALERT Buyer beware!!! I had a tanning membership and had canceled it in the store, or so I thought. When I asked the employee to help me with the cancelation she said she would do it personally because they were having computer issues and I was "unable" to sign. I believed her. Well 2 months later I was charged for $59.95 which was a shock since I did not authorize any future transactions and assumed my account was cancelled by the employee. I attempted to handle this with the store manager today directly and was told because I did not "sign" I could only be given a credit. This is horrible customer service as I was specifically told the cancellation would be taken care of by the employee who lied about the computer issues. I was also informed that this same employee has done the same thing to another person. I wonder how many other people have been ripped off?! Why is that my problem? This should be taken care of with the employee directly and made right by the store owner as their employee is making mistakes that involve peoples bank accounts and money! Customers should not be held accountable for employees lying and not doing their job correctly. Several months ago I purchased 2 tans from the Desert Sun in Burien. I only wanted to purchase 1 but was talked into purchasing 2. I told the girl that I was moving soon to the Tacoma area, she assured me I could use them at any location. Fast forward to now...I just went to the Desert Sun in Puyallup to use my last tan. She informed me that it "expired" would have been nice to know that something I paid for has an expiration date. I definitely would have used it!!! When I told the girl in Puyallup what I was told in Burien, she just said sorry. Then tried to sell more tans. Since it was my first experience with them and I'm new to Washington you would think they could honor giving a tan to a new customer. Good customer service is everything and they dropped the ball to make the situation right. Had she done the right thing I would have purchased more tans in the future, but now I won't return. read more

The employees here are under staffed and over worked- especially uneducated regarding account management intentionally I feel- Consequently I was billed even tho I asked to freeze my account like they recommended. YOU MUST SIGN A PAPER which they didn't have me do only said everything was "good to go" and I was billed a full month I didn't want. I have been tanning for about 8 years and have been to a couple different tanning salons. This is probably one of the worst salons I've been to. Here are the pros: - I've never had to wait, this location always seems to be empty. - It's extremely close to my house. Cons: - The beds always smell like sweat or have sweat marks. It makes me question their cleanliness. - The music speakers on the wall never seem to work. - The workers never remember my name even though I come in almost every single day and see the exact same girls there every time. - I asked about deals when I signed up and was told there were none. After the fact, it turns out there were specials they never mentioned to me. - I was told I was getting free upgrades when I signed up. Since my package is almost over, I inquired about using them. She said they "must have expired" even though no one has ever mentioned that they expire and I haven't even been tanning a full month yet. - My quality of tanning is not as good as other salons I have been to in the past. - Their monthly charge is overpriced compared to other locations. Even though this is within walking distance of my house, I will never tan at this location again and will look for others with better service and facilities. read more

Can't wait to use up the damn package I was pressured into buying and get the hell outta this place. I get more than a little tired of the pressure to buy something every damn time I'm in. I've started coming in without my wallet hoping that would get them to leave me alone, but I still get asked "are you surrrrrre?" when I decline their sales special of the day. I've started to call ahead to make sure that the equipment I wish to use is in working order, because I've driven all the way down there on more than one occasion to find that they're having technical difficulties. Overall, they offer what I like, but seem to find it necessary to sell me junk every time I visit. Knock off the sales pitch pressure nonsense and I'd be a satisfied customer. read more

The girls here are friendly, the beds are always clean and in working order, and I've only had to wait a few times ever. Every now and then they ask me about my lotion situation but I always have my hypoallergenic stuff so in politely decline. The girls I've spoken with seem knowledgeable about the products and I appreciate their willingness to help me and always answer my questions. read more

I'm not necessarily a fan of tanning but tend to participate when approaching a sunny vacay. SO, my experience with tanning salons in general is based on a maybe month or so stay per year. I have found Desert Sun to be convenient and often, get great deals as a member via email. There isn't usually a wait when I come in, I tend to come in randomly at parts of the day that I am assuming are not the rush period. In each visit, I too have experienced the attempts by the staff to up sell. After speaking to someone whom mentioned in passing they used to work for this company, I guess the up sell is a huge part of their revenue. They are pressured themselves to pressure the customers, so I am not going to harp on that aspect as they really don't have a choice. Just politely (and continually) say no. That's all it takes. All in all, the facilities are clean, you can usually get lotions and packages discounted and the staff are always smiley and nice. Not much more to expect for this type of service. The equipment is also up to date and is definitely meeting their competitors prices and quality. read more

I bought a package about a month ago I have 4 days left and I have asked the entire time if they are going to get new bulbs I use the stand up medium and the lay down beds.. there's anywhere from 3 to 6 bulbs out in each bed I've used EVERYTIME...I keep getting the run around from staff that they are being replaced.. won't be coming back to this location even though it's the closest to my home! I have never been so frustrated with the customer service of a business before. All this business location wants is their customers money. I am a flight attendant so I travel around a lot and I am not always home so I do a lot of my work/errands via phone and email. I got a membership with dessert sun around June so I could make sure and get some tanning in when I had time before my wedding. I think the last time I went in was in Aug. of 2017 ( i probably only went in 6 times in 3 months). I tried to call and Cancel my account on December 2nd. When I called they said I had to physically come in to cancel. Here again with my job and the busy holiday season this is difficult for me. I asked if there was anyway that I could be refunded my payment that posted on Dec. 2 since I hadn't even been in since Aug. and they said no. So I figured that I just need to go in before the 1st of Jan. to cancel or I would be charged again since that's when my payment posted to my account. Well, I was wrong, you actually have to go in by the 25th of they month (Oh and they made sure to tell me that that is posted all over the shop but guess what i hardly when in the shop). So I go to the shop on the 25th but they are closed because of Christmas. So I go in on the 26th and they still won't cancel my account without charging me. They said if I have an issue with this I need to call corporate. So I do just that. Well turn out they don't give a shit about what corporate said cause they still are not refunding me. Here is the sad part of this whole story. They got around $350 + dollars from me for not even going into there shop. I wanted to cancel my membership for the time being because of my busy schedule but would have had every intention on going back to this location had they treated me right. However, $89 dollars to this business is worth more then a positive outcome and returning business. I know that Ashley is probably going to get on here with some comment back with some BS response but I will save you the time and say don't bother. Nearly always there is an issue. Membership makes it seem as though it is good across all desert suns but this one they tell me I have to go back to the one where I signed up? This seems incongruent with a desired customer service experience. And frankly it's simply problematic on most levels. For six dollars you're telling me to go to another one? You're telling me to go eight miles away after I just took my time and effort to come here?? I can't imagine this is how you keep your clients. Somebody needs a lesson in customer service. So desert sun is mcDonalds now? Good customer service doesn't inconvenience their guests like this. A great experience would have been a way to arrange for me to sign whatever waiver you deem necessary especially when I have already spent money here. am a paying member. This is frankly outrageous and I will be filing a complaint with a better business bureau. Telling a guest to essentially get lost - I hope you do better. It should be an easy pause or don't offer this as an option. And then if you don't go along with the weak explanation they act like there is something wrong with you. If you are going to tan, I'd give this place 3 stars. The salon is clean and usually busy. My #1 problem with this place is the CONSTANT pressure to buy new packages, eyewear, lotion- basically anything they can think to sell you. Tanning (especially if you are doing the high-level beds) can be expensive! Costing upwards of $90 a month and they basically act as if you're a cheapskate if you don't buy their latest and greatest overpriced lotion. read more

The receptionists pester you with "deals" that seem to change by the customer. I don't like being asked to buy lotion every time I walk in the door, either. Unfortunately this salon always feels understaffed and there is always a long wait. I feel bad for the new person as you can tell she didn't get the right amount of training.
