My favourite place in town. I like their spicy noodles and all the soups. I take my kiddo with new and he likes it a lot too.

So we've been back a half dozen times or so since our last review and Second Bowl has really grown on me. I don't come here for a vermicelli bowl because I know that I will be disappointed (and there is no better vermicelli bowl in all of YEG + area than Golden Bird in Chinatown but I digress...) but we do come here for satay noodle soup. Second Bowl has some of the best, if not best Satay beef noodle soup hubs and I have found. The salad rolls are darn good and reasonable at $3 for two vegetarian rolls or $4.50 with meat. #38 Spicy Beef Satay Noodle Soup and Pork Salad Rolls are pretty well my idea of heaven on a cold winter's night. We always add more hot sauce 'cause that's how we roll but otherwise it's darn near perfection. The restaurant is always clean, the staff friendly, and the food fresh and quick. My friend keeps telling me they have the best salad rolls. And that they do. I have ordered their beef satay and the wor wonton soup. I will keep coming back to this place because they know how to make amazing food. Quick service and clean environment. Friendly staff. When it's this cold out all you want is to have comfort food and to me that's a Vietnamese soup and this place always delivers on taste. read more

Definitely time for an updated review. I've been back many times - I usually do take out. When I still worked at the Sturgeon Hospital there would be large groups of us ordering take out for lunch - they were always fast to fill our orders and have them ready for us when we got there. Taste is phenomenal and the serving sizes are good. Now that I've been to a few other vietnemese places, I see that most of them are charging for tea... so I can't really fault them for that. read more

There are a few Vietnamese restaurants in St. Albert but since we don't live there, we just "winged it" and ended up here. It's located beside the Mac's store across the hospital. It was a Saturday evening and the restaurant was almost full but I find these restaurants are usually small. We were seated immediately and given menus to look at. The food options and service are more or less the same at any Vietnamese restaurant but it's the taste that makes the difference. The pork chop with a fried egg and rice was delicious. The meat was well marinaded and not too salty, the only thing about this dish is that it doesn't really come with enough vegetables, just a bit of lettuce and slices of cucumber. The noodle soup had a nice broth that wasn't too oily or salty. A quiet place but great for a date or family meal. If we are ever in the area again, I would definitely eat here again. read more

Sadly I still haven't made it here in person, but Kristin K. wondrously brought me a satay chicken pho when I was in mouth pain, and boy, did it make me feel better! Besides the fact that it was delicious, I was super impressed by how carefully the take-out order was prepared. The soup, noodles, veggies, sauce, and generous amount of fresh basil were all packaged separately, so the resulting compilation was not the least bit soggy. This was my first experience with pho take-out, so it blew me away. (Also, she messaged me a picture of their Christmas tree, decorated in coke cans - those who know what a fiend I am about diet coke will appreciate my appreciation!!) Busy little place. I had deep fried wontons and beef satay soup. It was very flavourful, and I've been craving it since. Parking was terrible, service was ok. Would definitely go back. My friend had the pho, and she said it was delicious as well. read more

As pho soup goes this place is a chain that offers consistency but not much else. I gave it three stars because I've been a few times when I'm craving a warm bowl of soup and I will probably be back but I don't expect too much. They have a few different sections in their menu for beginners to the adventurous. Choose according to your tastes. They charge $1.00 for a pot of weak tea so be aware before you order some. Finally I really like the oil based hot sauce that many Vietnamese restaurants offer but they don't have that as a choice. Its only your standard sirracha and a chunky garlic hot sauce. We live in St. Albert, and when we crave a vermicelli bowl, and we do, we choose Second Bowl. The beef satay soup is also decent. The food is always prepared fresh to order, the service has always been good, and the place is always clean which means a lot. read more

Had my 2 boys with me. Ages 11 and 7. I had a horrible cold so I convinced them that pho would help me clear it up. Got to this restaurant at 4:50 pm. Water came out really fast. Then it went downhill. Server didn't take our order for 30 minutes. My kids were super patient. We saw other tables get their food before ours. Then 10 mins later the server asks us for our order again. Brutal! read more

Was back there Dec 15th. Service is still about what it was but the food quality has slipped. Still decent size portions but lacking that full flavoured taste it used to have. Don't know if they have a different cook on during the day, we were there just after lunch this time or have changed cooks but they need to upgrade their quality control some. read more

My husband and I have been here 2x. The first time it was not bad as we ordered something that was ruin free. The 2nd time disaster! We both received chicken dishes with rice. My chicken not only looked like it had been picked out of a garbage but tasted disgusting. It actually was bad (smelled sour/old) chicken! My husband's chicken was full of small bones! I tried to talk to the waitress but all of them seemed way to busy gossiping to even be bothered. Finally I got someones attention and told her what was going on with the food. After I tell her the chicken is bad, she tells me there is nothing she can do, We have to pay full price for food. I clearly did not touch the chicken and told her several times this IS BAD CHICKEN I CAN GET SICK, I WANT MY MONEY BACK. She says she has to call her manager?? So we sit there for 10 mins! I am pissed by now! I tell the waitress that I will be walking out without paying a damn cent and calling the health board if I don't get an answer soon about the bill! She says the manager is making a decision. Meanwhile another male comes to talk to us about the food. He tells us that things will be sorted. When we tell him about the bad chicken, he says is comes from the company and he knows nothing about it. He then tells my husband that the reason why his chicken is full of small bones is because that's the way it is. People love chicken with small bones and we did not tell the waitress we wanted chicken breast so we got chicken with bones! SERIOUSLY? read more
