Higher priced Vietnamese restaurant but they do produce quality and consistency. Food was great but I feel you can get similar for less if you know and are willing to try the hole in the wall places. Interior is kept classy and clean. I can see why people like it. I wish the garlic chili was left on the table. I asked for 2 because 1 just was not enough. However, I get they are trying to keep it tidy and classy so they bring the sauce in fancy side bowls (sort of like cactus club bringing ketchup in side bowls instead of bringing the bottle). One thing I did notice is they do not skimp out on the meat. My vermicelli and spring rolls were packed so the $21 was a tad bit easier to swallow. At last, we have finally returned here since the pandemic started. It's been several years but well worth the wait. We would always go to this restaurant whenever we are in town. It's my favorite Vietnamese restaurant here in Edmonton. Food Grilled meat vermicelli. $16 My wife chose the grilled pork. Generous amount of meat and grilled just right. Comes with fish sauce on the side which we poured all of it in. Delicious! Northern Vietnamese soup $15 The broth is the star in this dish. Maybe made with star anise or maybe five spice but we are guessing here. Comes with chicken breast slices and well done and rare beef. It's so good. Also had the Vietnamese coffee which was good as always. Let it steep through, stir it with the condensed milk and pour into your ice cup. So refreshing on a hot day. Service 2 servers came by within 5 minutes of us sitting down. Food came out immediately nice and hot. They also came by to see how the first bites were, which were very good. Craving Vietnamese? We have been coming here for the last 20 years. It is also consistent good food and fast service. The menu is really large and generally we generally get the beef or shrimp satay. This time I tried a combo meal. It was really tasty . It came with a wonton soup. I love their wonton soup. It is filling and fragrant and with no grease. This is a medium sized place on 101 St not far from Chinatown so the area is a little sketchy, but there's street parking nearby and the inside is pleasant. It gets super busy at lunch so don't try to go with more than 4 or so unless you're prepared to wait, but they turn over the tables super efficiently and it is worth a bit of a wait if you have the time. (And if you turn up and don't have time to wait, Padmanadi a couple doors down always seems to have room and is also excellent as a back up plan.) We went for lunch with a group of 4 and got lucky with a quiet day, and were all super impressed with the speed at which our orders appeared. The menu is large, and although they have a smaller lunch menu the entire dinner menu appears to be available for lunch also, so there's almost too much to choose from. I had grilled pork spring rolls (the roll-your-own kind) and although I'm pretty terrible at rolling them neatly, they were delicious. The pork was well seasoned and a very generous sized serving was provided. Everyone else loved their meals too. Will happily go back soon to try some other dish! read more

He suggested the Spicy Satay Beef Noodle soup as it's the most popular item on the menu. The spicy satay noodles were amazing; I've never tasted anything like it or comparable back in Vancouver (and we have a good representation of Vietnamese cuisine). There was a depth to the flavour (spicy, tangy, almost sweet). It's spicy for sure (my nose was running) but it was a good kind of spicy without burning my mouth or throat. My only regret was ordering the small size. I tried a bit of the lemongrass chicken and pork that my companions ordered; friggin' tasty. I went there last night for dinner. Before I get there, I was a little hesitant because that area is a little sketchy. But when I got there I found everything is fine and based on the cars that were parked on street, it's not that bad. The restaurant is big and the system is very efficient. One person was greeting and managing new customers and guiding them to table or to the waiting area. Two guys were working on a table that the customers had just left. One was taking the dirty dishes and stuff and the other was cleaning the table. The way they were doing that and the timing was pretty cool. Nice team work! The menu was done very nice and professional which is a good sign for a high quality restaurant. I got a chance after ordering our food to look around. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. We started with deep fried shrimps. It was awesome! I ordered item 9 from combination meals. It was very good and a good opportunity to taste a bunch of things. The quality of the food was very good and the place is very popular and when we left, a bunch of people were still waiting for table. You won't need a lucky Buddha to experience the Vietnamese fare from Thanh Thanh Oriental Noodle House, but it makes a great selfie photo. Even though this is casual dining, it's easy to see the pride the family run eatery takes in delivering an exceptional experience for their guests. Parking is conveniently available on the street or behind the restaurant. The rear lot was full with about 10 vehicles around 1pm, so we found a spot on the street. There are two dining rooms to choose from while we waited to be seated at the entrance. A warm greeting with a smile from the waitress and we were quickly shown to our table. Clean and ready with dining spoon and chopsticks. Within a minute of being seated we were served a hot pot of tea and ice waters together with the menus. They're easy to navigate and have good descriptions of the Vietnamese fare that's available. My wife and I ordered the 3 Imperial Rolls (Pork/vegetable) as an appetizer. For her an order of Grilled Chicken Vermicelli Bowl, and for me the Special Vermicelli Bowl. The appetizer was fresh and hot served with a lovely side of greens and carrot together with a delicious dipping sauce. The wrap had a nice crunch while the filling was packed full of meat and veggies. So yummy! The main dishes came soon after and were amazing with generous portions of meat, noodles and veggies. The dipping sauce was just the right amount and added a delicious flavor to the bowl. There was more than enough to satisfy a hungry appetite! I enjoyed every mouthful. Even though I was feeling full after about 3/4 of the Bowl I simply couldn't resist finishing it. The PERFECT blend of spice/seasoning and cooked just right! During the course of our dining the server came by to refill waters, check to ensure we were happy and if we needed anything. There was attention to detail when the waitress asked if we needed any utensils other than what was in the table. I like a fork. The restaurant decor is simple and comfortable for roominess and cleanliness. I love the large Buddha, good for luck so I had to get a selfie. Thanh Thanh Oriental Noodle House knows great customer service, delicious food at a great value too! We both dined incl 20% gratuity for under $40 and took some food home. This is 5-star service for casual dining that exceeded our expectations and will for you too. Say hi to the family there, such nice people you'll be feeling right at home. Okay. So I've ordered from this place twice though different delivery services. I was incredibly disappointed both times. Both times I ordered a vermicelli bowl- once with pork, and once with beef. I'm not sure what they do to their meat, but it tastes like it's been marinated in chemicals. I've never tasted anything like this before. The second order was actually an accident- I had forgotten this was the same restaurant I had a bad experience with, and sure enough the meat had the same peculiar taste and I decided not to eat it because I didn't want to chance getting sick. Finding a place to eat lunch in Chinatown on a Saturday is not easy. Restaurants are crowded and parking is a problem. We were early enough to find a free parking spot at Thanh Thanh, which made me happy since I have been meaning to try this Asian noodle house for quite some time. I know several regulars who dine here and have mostly heard only good things. We were promptly seated and given menus. In addition to the numerous noodle soups and vermicelli bowls, there is a variety of stir fry dishes and an entire section devoted to chicken. Just reading the descriptions was enough to make my mouth water. However, I decided to go with a bowl of pho, which I tend to choose when trying a new restaurant of this kind. Since pho is such a standard dish, I want to know if the place knows what it is doing. I ordered the Northern Vietnamese Soup, with chicken, well done beef, and medium beef. The steaming bowl appeared within minutes, in addition to the plate of sprouts and herbs. The chicken was white meat and bland, the well-done beef flavourful and not too fatty, and the medium beef was already cooked through when it arrived at the table. It was tender and tasted almost like deli. The noodles were plentiful and the broth flavourful enough for me. The other dish ordered at our table was stir fried beef with pineapple. The portion was huge, with lots of pieces of lean, tender beef, chunks of fresh pineapple, and a mound of rice. I tasted a few pieces of beef and it was definitely tasty. The portion was easily enough for two people to share. Prices are in line with other restaurants of this type, ranging from $7-$8 for soup and vermicelli bowls to $15-$17 for more intricate dishes. Hubby and I tried Thanh Thanh last month after rave reviews from a girlfriend... and I have to say that both the vermicelli bowl and Pho soup did not live up to our expectations. She had raved about the spring rolls.. which I thought were okay - pretty meaty - but just okay. The restaurant itself looked like it had just been remodeled and was quite modern and clean! The service was friendly and efficient. The fish sauce for my vermicelli bowl disappointed me as it was quite plain and unseasoned. I had a grilled beef, shrimp, and spring roll bowl - the shrimp were bland and I was not impressed with the quality of the beef - stringy and chewy. If I had never had Vietnamese food - I'm sure it would have been a treat - but it didn't excite us and I don't think we will be returning. I placed an order via Uber Eats. I watched the app closely as I had to meet the driver in the lobby. The app told me that the food would arrive in 15 minutes which it almost never is that quick. 40 minutes later the food was still "on the way". I called the restaurant to cancel - they said that the food had been picked up 30 minutes earlier. The driver arrived shortly after that and said, "oh no, I just picked it up." This is one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants in the city. I think they make one of the best spicy beef satay soups but it isn't for the faint of heart. It has some heat to it so prepare! I ordered it last night and it didn't disappoint. The soup is loaded with spices and herbs like chili oil, lemon grass, cilantro and sprouts. The beef is oh so tender and the tiny chunks of peanuts finish of the dish. I have had their vermicelli bowls and their salad rolls in the past and they have all been good. This is definitely the best place to indulge in Vietnamese food. A patriot of Thanh Thanh- I have been going here for many years, with family, coworkers, dates, friends, and even for independent cravings. Located on a busy road just north of Jasper, you may be deterred by small amounts of parking options, however, once you eat there, you will will make sure you find a spot. Its the usually parking lot behind the building, small and for angle parking. After six you can park in front on the main road and other street parking. You walk in and get seated, and then try your best to not pick everything off the menu - especially if your solo. And trust me, you would go solo if you craved their food. I usually get the Beef Satay Soup. However, try the skewers, beef cubes, chicken vermicelli- portions are large even if you get the "regular bowl" and yes they dont skimp out on the amount of beef/chicken in the bowls. Service is quick and staff friendly. You go up to the counter to pay. It is very busy at lunch where you may be waiting for spots however, dinner time is a bit more relaxed. I went on date night with the fiance and we were able to choose a smaller table away from the entrance. Lots of booths and tables, bathroom is small and towards the back. If you park in the back the door leads into a small hallway, past the bathrooms towards the restaurants. Either way, someone is around to greet you. I wasn't expecting that much when I came here but I was blown away by the vast array of dishes they offer. Their menu is thick; they have tons of things available and definitely something to please everyone at the table. I got chicken and vermicelli and a side of spring rolls and the food was great. Vermicelli bowls are usually pretty standard for me and it was about average to any other place but the spring rolls were great. They didn't taste like your average run of the mill frozen spring rolls; they tasted fresh and had a mix of veggies, noodles, and pork in them. Super yummy. Also, the service was wicked fast. Like I'm talking ten minutes, not even, to get 8 of our dishes out. And everything was hot and yummy and delicious. Some of the people I was with got wonton soup and it looked and smelled delicious and not gonna lie I was a little jealous! Next time I go back I'll have to get that. Service was quick, servers were friendly and not pushy, and the food was great. I have dining at Thanh Thanh since the mid-1980's, and it is the best Vietnamese cuisine in Edmonton. The meals are large, fresh and high quality, and the flavour is wonderful! I usually have pho, the Northern Vietnamese soup, and is consistently top-notch. The broth is rich and flavourful, and try as I will, I can never duplicate it at home. The meats provided in their many dishes are of excellent quality, without tendon or extra fat. The service is outstanding, fast, attentive, and very friendly. They really care about you enjoying your dining experience. Also noteworthy is their ability to handle food allergies. I am highly allergic to peanuts, but have never had a problem at Thanh Thanh, unlike many other restaurants in Edmonton. You have got to try this place! read more

A friend and I popped into Thanh Thanh on a whim last Saturday evening before a film. Thankfully we narrowly missed the dinner rush and were seated promptly. Shortly after we arrived, the restaurant filled up quickly and the staff clearly had to put their game faces on! My friend ordered pho, which arrived at our table about 2 minutes after he ordered it. Feeling like a bit of comfort food, I went with the grilled pork vermicelli. The food was simple but delicious. There was double the amount of grilled pork than at my usual haunts! Thanh Thanh is trying to please two apparently disparate markets. The first is comprised of those diners looking for traditional Vietnamese food (this group tends not to mind the sparsely decorated "hole in the wall" location). The second market is less adventurous and might sometimes prefer the Chinese food buffet (they will be put at ease by the modern decoration). You can't please everyone all of the time... but I would say Thanh Thanh nails it pretty well. read more

I have tried many, many things on the menu - I usually get the Southern Vietnamese soup but I've tried most of the soups and they're all good. Obviously the satay soups are delicious since everyone talks about them. Yesterday I had a vermicelli bowl there for the first time, I got the combination bowl - and it was just ok. I wish there had been more freshness to it, there was like 4 bean sprouts and cucumbers and minimal lettuce. The meat was more than a little dry although flavourful. Shrimp had zero flavour aside from the charring. First time i haven't LOVED something from thanh thanh. HOWEVER, we ordered a side of kimchi and it was soooooo good it saved the day. Chris: This is our first time here. First impressions are really great. The decor is very modern and welcoming. At first when I looked to my left I thought I was looking at a mirror, and then realized there's an entire section beyond the glass! Very roomy. I ordered my usual staple medium rare beef pho. Two minutes later we received our food! It was busy too! The portion size was perfect, along with the noodles and beef. I even polished off the rest of the broth; most other places like to "pad" their portion size by giving you a bigger bowl with lots of broth, but I find that unnecessary. I also appreciated the small details - they bring out a small dish that holds hot sauce and sweet sauce separately (which is very handy); they have a few small bowls ready at the table in case you need them, and toothpicks are readily available at each table for your tooth-picking pleasure. The value is amazing. The total came to just under $18, whereas other places we usually pay over $20 for both of us. With that price difference (after tip) I can fill my tummy with a delectable cup of Starbucks afterwards. The washroom was beautiful and clean. They also have a ZOOM media ad display that tells you the weather, just in case you needed to be reminded of our ridiculous weather. David: The service was lightning fast. The atmosphere is clean and cozy. I ordered the Northern Vietnamese Soup. The portion size could've been a big bigger, but I do tend to eat quite a bit more than Chris. I apologize if I drool while writing this review.. This place is amazing! Hands down my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. Ever go somewhere excited to eat spring rolls and then when you order them and they're full of bean sprouts, cabbage and other things that have nothing to do with spring rolls...well this place makes REAL spring rolls, with just the pork, vermicelli noodles and carrot. The food is always hot and fresh, their spicy dishes aren't something that will bring tears to your eyes but they have a bite, but if your style is to cry while eating they have no problem giving you a side dish of hot sauce So aside from the amazing food, the service is great. If you want to be waited on hand and foot maybe don't come here during the lunch hour, unless you like service that is quick and to the point (which during lunch hour downtown it's handy). Also, there is parking available in the back, just remember to sign your vehicle in at the counter. I've been here a handful of times in the last 2 months and they always remember me and what I order.
