My boyfriend took me here because it's one of his favorite restaurants in the area. And after eating here, I can understand why. The space had a bunch of tables to choose from. We came just before the lunch rush on the weekend so we had more seating options to choose from. Wait time wasn't too long for food. But I only saw one guy waiting on all the tables and a woman popping in and out to serve food from the kitchen, so that's understandable. We ordered the Green Onion Pancake and the Bun Bo Hue without pork. The Green Onion Pancake was fluffy, flavorful, and tasty. And the Bun Bo Hue was so delicious. The broth was light but still very good and flavorful too. There was a good amount of beef pieces and all the veggies tasted crunchy and fresh. Everything we ordered was fantastic. And the service was even better. We were greeted warmly, were always checked on, and we even shared part of our culture with the man serving us. So, I have have been here before and had a really good experience. The dining room was clean and modern. Service was decent. Food was good. The vegan satay soup was really quite good. So a few weeks ago, we thought we would order take out from there. What a mistake. It took over an hour and a half to get our food and my husband had to pick up the food. And it was vermicelli bowls. How the heck to vermicelli bowls take an hour and a half to make? And no apologizes. No free spring rolls. Nothing taken off our bill. Not even a shrug of the shoulders to say "shit happens" The food was okay but cold by time my husband came home. We had to reheat it in the microwave. Not nice at all. I love trying new restaurants, especially ones that I've never even heard of before. Dang Good is such a place because I don't often venture to their Dovercourt location. However, I will literally travel to any corner of the city (and beyond) if the eating is good. CBC Edmonton's Best Restaurants 2019 said that Dang Good is the Best Restaurant North of the Core and that's plenty enough to get me through the door! You'll find them in a strip mall right by the traffic circle, and I have to admit that I did not realize that there was good food to be found in this area. I am so pleased to be proven wrong! While a strip mall is certainly not the height of luxury some of the best food is hiding within them - this I know for sure. The signage is bright and enticing. Honestly, who doesn't want to visit a place where the food is dang good? Inside, the restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and fairly simple. I loved the Buddha statues that I spotted around the room. The dining area is a decent size with plenty of tables and our server was wonderfully friendly, referring to us as "family" for our entire visit. The cuisine on order at Dang Good is Vietnamese and their specialties are vermicelli noodle bowls and phở bowls. They also feature a very extensive vegan section on their menu. From the appetizer list I figured that the Chả Giò - Deep Fried Spring Rolls (Golden fried crispy imperial rolls wrapped with ground pork, carrot, tarro root, onion, and cellophane noodle. Served with Dang Good fish sauce - $7.95) would be a solid choice. I liked these because they came out quick and they were exactly what I wanted them to be. Piping hot, I enjoyed biting in and trying not to burn my mouth. Sometimes you just can't wait! Crispy and golden, the filling seemed a lot more homemade than the average spring roll. I could really taste the juicy pork and enjoyed the savoury flavours a lot. I especially loved the fish sauce and was sure to bathe each and every bite in sauce. These are a great example of a very common dish that satisfies every time. Next, there was only one item on my radar that I simply had to try; the Phở Bò Sả Tế - Pho Beef Saté (Our No. 1 seller. Spicy lemongrass peanut saté soup served with rice noodle, beef fillet, shredded cucumber & diced tomato. Topped with roasted peanuts, onion and cilantro - $13.95). This is the dish that everyone talks about and the reason that most people visit this restaurant. The huge bowl arrived in no time at all and I loved the mix of colours and promise of some serious heat. I jumped straight in, armed with chopsticks in one hand and a spoon in the other. Slurping is entirely expected and encouraged! The noodles themselves were great because they were nice and loose - not sticky. A giant sticky mass is never what you want. The pieces of thinly sliced rare beef on top were perfectly pink and beautifully tender. Once stirred into the broth they continued to cook and I really appreciated the nice quality of the meat. The texture and crunch from the peanuts was another very enjoyable element. The best for last is the broth, which is always the most key component in any style of phở. This one was delicious and seriously amped up with spices (just the right amount). The depth of flavour was there however, I did find myself looking for a bit more richness. I really enjoyed the cucumber and tomato within the broth which added beautiful and unexpected pops of juicy freshness. I was getting a lot of authenticity from the flavours. This soup is great and for anyone who considers themselves a lover of spice, it's certainly the one for you. I finished the whole dang bowl and felt incredibly satisfied. Dang Good is a great little spot. The food is very good and it's nice to see that they're bringing something delicious to an area of the city that doesn't have quite as many options. I just went to nominate Dang Good as one of Edmonton's best restaurants and was shocked to see I haven't written a review for them! Dang Good is one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants. They are a family-run business that prides itself on great food and friendly service. My favourite part? They have an extensive vegan menu which means I don't have to limit myself to the one vegan-soup on the menu like I do at most places. My go-to order is usually the vegan hot and sour soup with a side of vegan salad rolls but I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. Some restaurants I don't understand. Dang Good is one of them. Even though I've only been here once, it's been crazy busy during both of my lunch visits. After a failed attempt to go for lunch at Shanghai 456 (they were randomly closed for 3 days), we decided to hit up nearby Dang Good. It still blows my mind how pricey their menu is compared to all the other Vietnamese joints in town. I complained about this last time but it still irks me. Service is friendly but slooooooow. Took awhile for them to take our orders and even longer to get our bowls. Another couple that came in after us got their bowls before we did. I'm guessing they were regulars. - Pho beef saté ($11.95) - spicy peanut saté soup with rice noodle, beef fillet, shredded cucumber, diced tomato, roasted peanuts, onion and cilantro. The broth was a little weak when I took a first sip but grew on me the more I ate. The addition of cucumber and tomato is different and adds a bit of sweetness to the broth. The spiciness is spot on. - Coconut seafood soup ($13.95) with noodles ($2.50) - coconut soup with prawns, scallops, mussels, squids, imitation crab meat and mixed vegetables. That's right, you have to pay an extra $2.50 for noodles! WTF. For a bowl that's already costing you $13.95, you'd think the noodles would be included. Nope. Aside from the price, the broth reminded me more of a Thai style soup than a Vietnamese one. Quite sweet and while the coconut is prominent, my mom wasn't loving her bowl. She was also disappointed with the fake crab being used rather than the real thing but let's be real, I can't think of a single place in town that uses real crab. - Pho seafood ($13.95) - chicken broth served with rice noodles, prawns, scallops, mussels, squid and imitation crab meat. They seem to skimp on the amount of seafood. My dad said it was decent but that he's had better. Not going to lie, the higher price point discourages me from coming back. DG is a decent spot but nowhere near my top choices in town when I want to eat Vietnamese food. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. We were looking for a vegan place in the North end or even a place that had vegan options. The reviews were hit and miss on Yelp but once I saw the menu I wanted to give it a shot. I really appreciate the menu layout. It's so easy to know what is regular, gluten free, vegetarian and vegan. The menu is what got me in the door. We are central but depending on who we are visiting we can be in any part of the city and this is a great place for groups with most dietary needs. It's nestled away in the Circle Square strip mall by the groat road traffic circle. The entrance has a plastic palm tree with coconuts that I found amusing. The interior is peaceful, small and decorated in its own style. Wall art consists of large utensils and frying pans. Two large screens played a 3D aquarium. A waiter seated us and handed us two green menus. We ordered the tofu mango vegetable rolls with peanut dipping sauce, ginger "beef" (vegan so tofu) with rice and vegetables, vegan pho, Tsingtao beer from China and Saigon beer from Vietnam. The waiter suggested we try the vegetable rolls with the mango and he was right they were fantastic. The tofu was crispy on the outside and rolled in with rice noodles, lettuce and mango. Dipped in a thick peanut sauce it was the best light starter. My vegan pho was a new favorite. The fake beef was unlike anything I've had anywhere else. It had a great beef like look and texture and was sliced thin. The broth was the best vegan version I've had! This is my new pho location. Dean's ginger tofu dish was everything you'd expect from a ginger beef dish but with crispy tofu smothered in ginger sauce. Of the two beers I preferred the Tsingtao from China. It was a bit sweeter and had a medium taste. Saigon tasted good but in comparison was lighter in flavour. As the meal carried on I was disappointed in the wait staff. After we got our meal no one came by to offer another drink, dessert or the bill. We waited for 15 mins and finally decided to go up front to pay. The staff are hard working and the place was getting busier. A check up and the bill would have made it perfect. Seeking out a new place to dine with my sister, who is Celiac, we decided to follow up of some good reviews from friends and make a trip to Dang Good. Dang glad we did! Lovely local joint in an easy location, the restaurant is stylish and comfortable, with an impressive menu. We were seated quickly and got our drinks in short order, while we perused the menu. We both went for Pho along with appies of Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Green Onion Cakes. The side dishes arrived in about 10 minutes, and both were delicious. The spring rolls were very fresh, and were as good as any I have had in Edmonton. The Green Onion Cakes were deep fried in the Vietnamese style, with a hollow center. Crispy on the outside and moist in the center, they were perfectly cooked. We had hardly made a dent in those before the mains landed, and we were both impressed with the Pho. The broth was delightful, and the ingredients were fresh and flavourful. Overall, the service was very good, the food was excellent, and the final tally was reasonable. I will definitely be returning. This is a tough market, as there are an easy dozen noodle joints in town that are superb, and a bunch more that are just excellent. A gem of a place. It's nestled in a strip mall in Northwest Edmonton with plenty of parking and a lovely Dutch Bakery next door. We've been a few times when we have a yen for Vietnamese soup. We went again today and wondered why we don't go more often. Delightful service, warm atmosphere and attention to details. The tea is very hot and the service is fast. I am a total sucker for vegan Vietnamese food and will go ridiculous lengths to find the perfect bowl of soup. When I heard that one of the owners of Dang Good is(or was) vegan, and that they were able to make many of their options vegetarian, I was THERE. I first visited for Sunday lunch on a drizzly day. The owner was so sweet, and got very excited to hear we were vegan. I was between a few dishes so I asked his favourite. He highly recommended the Satay Soup, which veganized meant some delicious "beef" like protein, veggie broth, with absolutely no compromise in flavour. This soup, alongside an order of green onion cakes, was the perfect, most warming, coziest meal ever. When I raved and rambled to friends about my Satay soup, another pal piped up and told me I needed to try the Spicy Lemongrass soup next! So, after a swim the other night, my friend and I placed a takeout order for two of those, and of course another order of GOC, which we promptly devoured in the car. The soup, however, was devoured outside of Legislature on a chilly-ish night, like an impromptu picnic. GUYS, I don't know which soup I like best now! I love the Satay for its layers of warm, savoury flavour, and the Lemongrass soup for all the veggies and variety of proteins. In a perfect world I would just mix these soups together everytime so I could have both always. Will be back to Dang Good again and again. I am thinking this will be one of my favourites come winter. This little noodle joint was recommended to me by a friend. She almost lives right across the street from the restaurant. We arrived at about 6pm on a Monday. We were the only people in the restaurant with two other tables joining us while we leisurely ate our meal. The restaurant is newly renovated. Dark wooden tables, a coconut tree (fake) and a large digital fish tank decorate the interior. You wait to be seated. Very obviously a family run restaurant. A family that takes great pride in their space. The restaurant is bright and meticulously clean, the bathrooms are immaculate. We were seated by a very lovely lady and given our menus. She took our drink order. The menu had a great selection of different Vietnamese dishes. I have a special place in my heart for Beef Sate Pho and was excited to see that they had it on the menu. Everything is still reasonably priced but a dollar or two more expensive than most noodle joints I have tried. They have the website, but unfortunately don't have the menu online just yet. A few minutes later a gentleman came out with an Ipad to take our food order. You win points with me automatically with me there because I am a HUGE geek! When the food came out the server wasn't sure which was which, thankfully I have a great nose and could easily identify the aroma of Lemongrass that my husband had ordered. The server had indicated that the Lemongrass Pho was her favourite and also recommended another dish for our next visit. Of course the Pho is served with the normal accompaniment of sprouts, peppers and herbs. The other table's food smelled wonderful as well. There was also a fellow that came in to order take out. The Pho was good. The Beef Sate had just the right amount of spice for my liking. It was a good sized bowl, but a little skimpy on the meat. That wasn't the case with the Lemongrass though - my husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal. The management is working on getting licensed to be able to have liquor on the menu. They are hoping to have this any day now. I will be back again for sure, and will update the rating accordingly. I must say all their dishes have been at least good. Their ginger beef has been exceptional. The Pad Thai can being pretty decent. Green onion cakes are a good appetizer. The smoothies are pretty good as well. The service however is a little slow. It may be a while before you get served, the dishes come out slow from the kitchen. We were even asked if we could wait a while for the smoothies to be made as they were really busy, settling instead for our waters. As always, I kept it simple for my first visit and just ordered a regular beef pho. It's very large and I couldn't make my way through it. The broth was incredibly flavourful. Satay soup - coconut spicy peanut broth and 'beef' the portion was big and it was a nice change from traditional pho it is one of the most popular menu items. I would order it again Ginger beef, which is a ginger sauce and deep fried tofu while the sauce was delish and my husband ate it all he said he would not order again. It wasn't bad it just wasn't great. Side order of coconut rice. Total bill 45$ with tip for lunch for two. A wonderful community friendly restaurant! You come in and the smell of Asian food hits you like a rush. Every time we come I the restaurant it is filled to the brim and you'd have to wait a few mins to get a seat. It is worth the wait... Family run business everyone is so happy and friendly. I've been here twice now and the food is yummy and the portions are huge. It's a family owned business and it's so nice how attentive the waiter was. Tonight he was alone and he managed the entire crowd by himself! It was amazing. My cousin and I visited for about 5 hours and so we saw a lot of people come and go and the waiter was hands down the best we've seen. It's great for vegetarian and vegans since they can substitute the sea food for fake meat.... and it tastes yummy. My husband isnt a sea food fan and I got then coconut seafood soup (vegan) it was so good that he wanted to order that next time. I finally had the chance to try out this place after dropping off some stuff at my tailor's place a few doors down, and I liked it! When we arrived at the same time as another couple around 1:30pm, we were the only ones there. But as we sat and ate, more and more small groups of people kept filtering in. The decor inside is very clean and modern, in shades of bright green and brown, and they have an awesome two-monitor virtual fish tank on the back wall that is just entrancing. They have a pretty extensive menu with popular Vietnamese dishes (rather - what I've seen on other Vietnamese restaurant menus, I don't actually know if they are popular) - sizzling platters, wok dishes, rice bowls, vermicelli bowls, noodle soup bowls (among others, including pho, bun bo hue, and peanut sate), and a few combos. They have appetizers and I think desserts as well. We ordered some wings to start, my husband ordered a squid and chicken curry sizzling platter, and I ordered the bun bo hue. The wings were awesome - saucy but still crispy, fragrant with "wok hei", lemongrass, black beans, and fish sauce. They came in a small bed of stir-fried peppers and onions, which we devoured. The shrimp and chicken platter was quite large - could have easily fed two people - loaded with lots of different veggies (love that), tender pieces of chicken breast, and perfectly cooked squid (not rubbery at all). Well balanced flavours - not too spicy but just enough of a kick. Went very well with the bowl of coconut jasmine rice (ordered separately). My bun bo hue was great - the broth was rich and complex, lots of noodles and meats (though no meat balls). It was a pretty big bowl and I had a hard time finishing it! I'm glad I finally took the opportunity to check this place out since it's so close to home. When trying to decide what we were going to have for dinner I'm glad we chose dang good. I'm a but of a critic when it comes to ethnic foods. For me the more authentic the better and the more westernized the worst. This was quite good, authentic Vietnamese cuisine, compared to other places I've been in the city. I took a client to lunch today and thought this might be a good choice. It's close to our offices and we wanted to have a quick meal, which Vietnamese is usually great for. We were welcomed by staff and seated in a booth next to the window. The decor is very modern and clean, which is usually not the case for Vietnamese restaurants in the area, so it was a pleasant surprise. Our order was taken promptly and tea was brought out right after we made our orders. The food didn't come out as quickly as I expected, but it was worth the wait. I ordered my usual vermicelli bowl with chicken, pork, and spring rolls. It came in a modern dish with the cutest sauce bowl. The dish was good, it wasn't different from most other places I've been, but was done well, which I appreciate. I had to wait in line to pay due to the customer in front of me taking a long time, but the staff at the till noticed me behind them and offered a portable debit machine for me to use while I was in line, which sped up the process a lot. We stopped by for lunch today for Sunday lunch. The restaurant was clean and well decorated with a good ambiance. The staff was very friendly and the food came in promptly. We ordered three pho dishes and a pad Thai. The servings are of ample size and we left ask stuffed. A good restaurant in our area and willing to go back again. read more

A friend recommended this restaurant and I've been back many times usually bringing someone new. That's because the food is superb here. I usually get one of the 5 or 6 colour vermicelli rice bowls. What's amazing to me is that the different items maintain their individual flavours even when mixed. I haven't found a better Vietnamese restaurant. read more
