I am so appalled at this organization right now. I can't believe the attitude I am getting. This situation I dealt with today there was a new dog and it was tagged to their page of the dog. I went before n and he link and didn't know what I was going to see. I clicked in n the link. The foster had sexual content on her page like pictures of her body very sexually proactive. I should not be seeing that and the attitude I got back when I sent a text that this person is a foster and we don't micromanage their accounts. I did not get an apology for being exposed to the content. The organization takes no responsibility and passes it off like it is not be deal. I might lose my chances of adopting there but their attitude needs more professionalism. read more

I had applied to adopt a dog from Scaar Animal rescue. Never heard back, so i sent a reply to a story on Facebook where they posted the dog i was interested in, again. The emailed me back shortly after saying they can't receive emails from Hotmail..... but they managed to see it after I said something. They gave me less than 24 hours notice to drive 2 hours away to meet this dog at a store, knowing that Ontario was getting the biggest snow storm heading our way that weekend. I replied back asking for a different day, if possible and still to this day, I have to this day not heard back and they are still posting that dog I was looking to home. read more

very disappointed with my experience with SCAAR an animal rescue, based out of London, ON. Despite submitting a detailed application and following up with multiple emails over the past two months, I have received no response whatsoever - I've been completely ghosted. The lack of communication is extremely frustrating and unprofessional, especially given the time and effort put into completing their very long and tedious application. As someone who is genuinely eager to provide a loving home for a dog, I find it very disheartening that this agency does not prioritize clear communication or common courtesy with prospective adopters; a short and simple acknowledgment or update would go a long way. I expected a more respectful and transparent process, but unfortunately, that has not been the case. I hope they learn to address these communication issues soon for the sake of both the animals and the people willing to help them. read more

So according to Val, the owner, every negative review on here is a lie, provided by people that didn't get the pup they wanted or by employee's exs and her employee's or foster volunteers are mistaken with the info I have been given. To start with, I was not vetted, none of my references were checked or any of the info I provided for that matter. The meet and greet of the pup was in a very busy little pet value and I had 15 mins to decide if we were a fit. The pup was practically thrown at me with a bag of kibble. It's laughable now. The bio had been up for a few weeks and read that she was almost house broken and crate trained. I did not find that to be the case but whatever, we move along and get in with it. The pup has the worse separation anxiety ever. I text the foster and asked if she had just left her mom the weekend I got her, the answer: (Copied from text messages) when they stop feeding off mom and eat food we separate them in pairs as we are relying on fosters so its a lot anywhere from 4-6 weeks depending on situation and we only have a few that will do mamas so we need the space for others that would die otherwise. but they alwyays go with at least one or more litter mate Mash is a needy social puppy, so I think it's just figuring out if you feel you can meet her needs or if she would do better in a different home. she will be a lot of work, but I do think she will push through this puppy phase however, I get that you need to live your life too so it's figuring out. she then goes on and offers additional training at a fee that would be given to her 11 yr old or a boarding kenal. NONE OF THIS WAS IN THE BIO! WHY ARE THEY SEPARATE AT 4-6 WEEKS? The email that I received from Val pretty much confirms every other review I have read. MY GUESS IS, THAT THIS IS A FRONT FOR A PUPPY MILL I'm not an employees ex posting crap, I got the puppy I applied for, I have no reason to post this other than to let people know this rescue does not have the best of intentions. This is one of the shadiest rescues I have ever seen. They did no real vetting and allowed us to take a dog home that they did NOT disclose agression issues for. When she attacked my friends dog, they beat around the Bush and were putting off taking her back and the conversation resorted to them insulting me and saying I should never own a dog. I attempted to leave a comment on their fb page but they attacked me and then deleted my comment. Upon sharing my story with everyone I possibly could, I found multiple former volunteers that left due to unethical behaviour. One of them told me they ate banned from pawlooza and wouldnt tell me why or why she left. She told me they had threatened her if she said anything. The other volunteer told me about how the person who was in charge, valerie, would brag about getting new furniture once a litter of puppies sold etc. I watched a post on their page unfold of a man who wanted to adopt a huskey but because he had a farm property they wouldnt allow it. At the actual event they got into a verbal altercation with him. On the post they argued with him and called him out of his name and then deleted his post after all was said and done. They get a lot if their dogs from backyard breeders and there is even a london free press article of a dog they sold who died from Parvo. They are so busy throwing these dogs into homes and taking cash that they dont take the time necessary to assess behaviours, make sure they are healthy and vet the adopters to ensure proper placement. Supporting this organization is the equivalent of supporting backyard breeders. BEWARE!!! read more

Very positive experience adopting our dog through SCAAR. Surprised at all the negative reviews, this was our experience: - They neutered our dog before we got him, gave him all his vaccines and provided all documentation - The donation fee was right in line with anywhere else ($500) - They included 1 year free dog license with the city. And I think 1-2 months of pet insurance was included. - Everyone we dealt with was extremely friendly and professional. We did not feel pressure to adopt at any point. read more

I had a good experience adopting with scaar, I ended up reading the awful reviews after I filled out the adoption application but am glad that I still went ahead and adopted my puppy. My email was replied to in a prompt manner and the adoption process went smoothly- my questions were answered etc. My puppy came with all the appropriate vaccines and I received her vaccination booklet. Having said all this I did go to an event they had prior to submitting an application to see the puppy in person before even applying. I would be reluctant to apply for a dog that I've never met because despite the bio I'd need to meet them first to see if they are a good fit.( preferably not on the day of the adoption) I know that you can "reject" the dog on adoption day but that personally makes me uncomfortable, however, I see why the process is set up like this so that dogs get adopted quicker esp if they have limited fosters/space. Also I learned after the fact that my puppy was taken from her mother at 6 weeks- I was not surprised given the circumstances of most abandoned litters and was prepared but it would be nice if they disclosed this more freely for people who don't expect this. Do not, I repeat do NOT adopt from this organization. I had agreed to meet a rescue who had been surrendered in hopes of adopting him. As soon as I met the dog I realized that his breed was mislabeled on the website. His profile on Facebook stated that he had experience with cats, but after questioning Val on this she admitted that his only experience was being in a cage, next to cats in another cage. It gets better. Val was also over 20 minutes late to the meeting and if it hadn't been for the foster's I would have had no clue who she was (She walked right by me into the store without saying a word). All questions I had for Val she tried to sweep under the rug. Val basically refused to answer to any of my concerns and kept pressuring me to sign the paperwork without even being able to look at the dog's medical documents. Do not adopt from this organization. Val was rude, unprofessional, tardy, and had little to no knowledge of dogs. Save yourself the headache and steer clear of this organization. read more

Was approved to adopt a dog, they gave me a date to meet the dog. I replied promptly and asked if we could do another day and gave them a list of days and times. They never responded, followed up, they said that none of the times work for them and that I can have my pick of "any other dog" because my "application was already approved" (which is shady since I applied for a specific dog). Followed up again with more times to make it work and they never replied, followed up again, and they basically told me they're going on with other applications: which is funny because was I told this? Not until that moment. I suspect that after my first email with times they decided it was too much trouble and were hoping I wouldn't follow up so they could adopt the dog out from underneath me. Garbage rescue with vomit-worthy communication skills - I think the rotten pumpkin on my neighbour's windowsill has better communication skills. read more

I wanted a cat.. got asked to adopt a second one since they were "friends" .. they're not. In fact they don't even look at eachother, play or acknowledge eachother. The one cat I got was sick (the lady adopting them out said it was just "adjusting" & "stress") lie. I spent $400 at the vet. She wouldn't even answer me back when I had more questions. The cat is now doing much better after special food & a special shampoo for his skin. DO NOT ADOPT THROUGH THIS "AGENCY" !!! I will be writing many more reviews over the internet soon about this. I've heard so many more stories about them now & I'll be putting them out there. read more

This is a shady organization and I did post on Facebook as well...my story is about a friend who adopted a little dog for her mentally disabled daughter...I believe the price was 400 well...the daughter did not like the dog and so my friend called the organization to be told...you have to bring the dog back here...no refund...no exchange just too bad and they told her she was blacklisted and would never get another animal from them...that little dog was adopted for another 400. so that is 800. for the same dog...she did adopt another dog from that rescue that cost her another 400. so tell me that the vet bills were that high?? I suggested to them that they get themselves another vet as this one charges way too much money...cause they say all the money goes on vet charges...food and advertising...well they have foster parents for their animals and they buy the food and look after the dogs...all in all this place is a scam... read more

I adopted my 8 week old kitten from a PetValu that adopts out kittens on SCAAR's behalf. A few days after getting him, realized I was missing paperwork. A free first vet visit was supposed to be included but no one had given me any paper work to give to the vet. I ended up having to run back to the PetValu to grab the paperwork because no one realized I was missing it. Fast forward to now - my kitten is 6 months old and due to be neutered. I was told at the PetValu this was included in the adoption fee, but again was given nothing to give to the vet indicating the cost was covered. When I asked SCAAR about this, they told me the neutering was not covered and the contract I signed said that - I checked, it does not. It says I agree to get him neutered but does not specify who will pay for it. When I pointed this out and said I was told by the PetValu it was included, instead of them apologizing for the misinformation, I was told that PetValu has been working with them for 13 years and there's no way they told me that. SCAAR never apologized for how disorganized this adoption was, and instead told me what I claimed couldn't possibly be true. I love my little guy and while I don't at all regret adopting him, I am not at all impressed with SCAAR. I appreciate what they do for animals but their customer service is terrible. read more

Awful customer service. No organization. They lie about the pets to sell them. Mine came with a raging bladder infection that the vet said she must have had for a while. She was peeing maybe once per day.... they don't want to spend the extra money. Pets are not in good hands. They are looking for a profit. I barely got checked to see if I was compatable. Saw another customer complained on their fb page and got attacked so I will go here where I am free to post without being called names and attacked by several staff members. I fell in love with a puppy that SCAAR was adopting and filled out an adoption application. I was asked to come in on a specific date to finalize the adoption and we had agreed on a day and time. I had asked the owner Valerie if she should call my husband as he had a question regarding the dog herself and he left a message for her to call him back (it would be faster this way, as she was taking a while to respond to us via email). Well she never did. I found out this afternoon that they adopted the puppy to someone else. We had bought all these things for her as we were told we were approved and that the adoption would be finalized on Sunday (today is Saturday). I'm not happy. That is so cruel. I did some deeper research and found out they get a lot of their dogs from trails end auctions, which are mainly puppy mill based. Their dogs/cats/rabbits are adopted out unaltered which is super irresponsible. I get some are too young but rescues generally send you with a spay neueter voucher or just spay them young. They promote a lot of their small animals at pet valu where you have to pay cash only. I get a bad feeling about this "rescue" and after they did this to me, I won't be ever recommending them again. I really fell in love with that puppy. You guys should be ashamed that you adopted her to someone else while I was under the impression she was to be ours. Shame on you. read more

This "Rescue" is one of the biggest lies I've ever come into contact with. 1)They support puppy mills - by buying the dogs despite seeing their deplorable conditions. 2) They charge INSANELY HIGH prices for adoption 3) They do not neuter / spay the pets before putting them up for adoption - leaving you to do it out of your own pocket, after already paying such a high price for the pet itself 4) They have multiple cases of pets dying while under their care (One dog got out of it's leash and was found dead a few days later, one kittens neck was broken) It's honestly horrendous. Though I will give them credit for not putting down every animal that cannot be adopted within a certain time frame. I appreciate "no kill" rescues. But the way they go about it is terrible. The owners of the rescue seem to rationalize everything to themselves to make it seem like they are doing no wrong - but to anyone looking in from the outside it's obvious they're mental. read more

Our experience with SCAAR was TERRIBLE to say the least! We adopted a 7-week old puppy from Second Chance Auction Animal Rescue in London, ON, back in May 2017. After a day and a half with our little guy, we learned that he had PARVO, a highly contagious, life-threatening virus. When we reached out to Val to notify her of this problem, her response was, "sorry to hear this but I'm not working today." Our local vet quoted us ~$8,000.00 for treatment and gave our pup a 50% chance of survival. He had to be quarantined and put on an IV drip. We had to bleach down our entire house to ensure the virus was not spread. The 1 month of free puppy insurance was invalid because he came with a pre-existing condition. We called the Oxford Animal Clinic for a copy of the fecal exam (reported on the immunization card), they had "no record of it". Additionally, none of the immunizations were initialed by a veterinarian. We had to beg Val to speak with us over the phone (she wanted to communicate via e-mail). She finally agreed to call us (from a blocked number I might add) and explained to us that this wasn't her problem. We came to find out that Val was aware that other puppies (adopted out the same day) also had Parvo and DID NOT notify us. FINALLY, Val agreed to take our puppy back to London to provide him the treatment he needed. She told us that she would be adopting him out to another family if he survived.... Thank goodness for our pup's foster mother who helped to advocate for us and helped save his life. In the end, Val decided she would return him back to us. Interestingly, Val was a no-show when we came to pick him up (the foster mom did the exchange). I left a review on SCAAR's Facebook page, 10 minutes later, they removed their entire 'reviews' section. Quite frankly, web reviews for this organization are scarce...I wonder why... I would NEVER RECOMMEND anyone to adopt an animal from this IRRESPONSIBLE and NEGLIGENT organization. We paid a $350.00 donation fee (no receipt given) for a sick dog. We incurred significant medical expenses only 2 days after the adoption. SCAAR was not taking responsibility for any of it. The stress and heartache we endured throughout this process is indescribable. Ask questions when adopting animals! Go to your local humane society instead. read more

This was the absolute worst experience of my life. On November 1st, my family and I adopted what we were told was a healthy 2-year-old dog. Three days after adopting him (The wee hours of November 5th) we had to put him down. At 3am he went into a fit of seizers, having at least 6 within the hour. We drove to the city to the emerge vet where our new beloved pet was unresponsive, we had no choice but to put him to sleep. I contacted the recuse to let them know about what had happened and they could care less. They did not apologize to us for what we'd gone through until two days later when I called them out on it. They were informed the moment he awoke us having seizers and again after we put him to sleep. They knew what had happened and couldn't care. The founder of the recuse, Val and her husband Jason were our dogs foster parents and they didn't even care what we went through. The stories about how they had him in their home quickly changed after I started to call them out. Went from, oh he slept in his crate all the time, to oh no he slept with us all the time in our bed. This rescue is a giant joke and could care less about what happens to the animals it recuses. Completely disgusted. And magically you can't review them on Facebook. Makes one wonder who else this recuse has screwed over. read more

Definitely a scam!! They said our pet was treated for flea, worms, etc and vet approved. However he had worms, intestinal parasites, and fleas. Tried to contact them about it several times, but got no response. There is definitely something fishy about these people. read more

Scaar is a terrible rescue I do not recommend them to anyone! My husband and I got the sweetest dog from them the problem was when I took her to my vet he discovered she had mange. When I had inquired at the rescue about the lesion from the mange they had told me it was a scar from the owner they got her from. After we started mange treatment we also discovered she had worms and she had just been spayed less than a week before. I was also told she was up to date on her shots but she needed two distemper boosters and she had not been vaccinated against leptospirosis which she should have been given the area in which we live. When I tried emailing in regards to the vet issues and some training problems we had they never responded and I'm not sure they even read my adoption application. read more
