Ended the day with 10 rounds in the 80mph cage and cant wait till im in town again to make a follow-up cage appearance. Fun staff good food and a great time had by all the kiddos ( 8yo& 2yo girls... and a 46yo man-child who visits several local cages, multiple times a week as my, "Therapy Sesh."

For me, I enjoy the chance to engage with culture, eat a variety of foods, and support our local Asian community. These events typically take place in the parking lot of the AZ International Marketplace in Mesa. Several food and retail vendors fill up the parking lot with all sorts of yummy food and cool merchandise. There is also a stage with live entertainment. I recently attended the Kamayan Festival version of the night market which was part of the celebration for Filipino American History Month. I had a VIP pass to the Sapporo beer garden and enjoyed the perks that came with it. As much as I enjoy being a part of these festivals, the lines are usually insanely long. I come to these to try new things, but find myself getting discouraged by the long waits. I have learned the best time to come to Asian Night Markets is when they first open if you want to try a variety of food.

Centered on…read morethe Asian Pacific American community, this event celebrates cultural diversity, cuisine, art, and music. Organized by the Asian Chamber of Commerce, I know that in the past this required admission but this year's was free. I would not be surprised if it becomes an admission-only event in the future as it was packed from the entry time of 5:30. Given that the city of Mesa has decided to invest considerable resources to brand the area as an Asian enclave, I suspect it will get bigger and more impressive each year. While there are a ton of food trucks here, my advice would be not to show up hungry. Nearly every stall had long lines (save the poor coffee vendor). I would like to say that lines moved quickly, but most did not. I think it is better to have eaten a little something first and then show up and have a snack or two or come later in the evening when the live music really gets going. But if you plan to make this your sole dinner stop it will be frustrating. One perk of a big festival like this is that many smaller caterers/restaurants/food trucks that you haven't heard of will show up. There was plenty that was new to me and gave me a bucket list of places to try. I got some bao buns from Hot Bamboo which has a brick-and-mortar location in Chandler as well as a food truck that often pops up at festivals across town. They make Instagrammable character buns. It's a bit cheesy but the price was good and they were flavorful and satisfying. They were temporarily out of some fillings and the employees were profusely apologetic. It did inspire me to want to one day visit their actual restaurant. The vibe was great and the 2022 edition was a nice blend of people from all walks of life eager to celebrate our post-pandemic world (yeah, Year of the Tiger!). Besides food trucks, there were a few vendors selling gifts and other items but nothing popped out as too special. You can find the schedule on their website. Besides the night market, they also organize some daytime activities at parks that focus less on food and more on culture.

When you walk in, you check in at the combo concession stand/host. There's not a lot (ie no cocktail bar or nachos) but what's there is well-curated. We'd just eaten dinner so didn't get anything but there were snacks and drinks for all tastes. The show room is ....well....magical! It's arranged to seat 44 people, with a long table lower at the center, and then a higher seating area around that. It's all very dark velvet, candles (flameless), and vintage magic posters. Definitely sets the mood and the chairs are very comfortable! The host takes you in and shows you your seats. The magicians rotate but we saw John Shryock. He did a close up magic act and explained how he loves doing these but few venues work for it. He was fun -- lots of "dad jokes", pretty astounding magic, and clearly loves what he does. It's really cool to have something like this here-- and in a spot with easy, free parking and lots of dining choices nearby. We ate at Mekong before and went back for dessert after. Speaking of cool, the air con was set to keep us nice and cool. Much appreciated!

Oh. My. Gosh. Doing things at Mesa's Haunted Museum is the most fun I've had in a while…read more Located in an historic storefront on Main Street in downtown Mesa, the museum has a small exhibit room, plus other spaces where Michelle and Heather of East Valley Paranormal Investigations host paranormal investigations and psychic/tarot card readings. (They also run the museum.) At the paranormal investigations, which take place after the museum closes, participants get to use EMF detectors, spirit boxes and other devices to interact with the spirit world. It's really fun and some wild things have happened. They also run ghost tours of downtown Mesa, which involves the participants riding around on skeleton Rydables and stopping at places to investigate with ghost-hunting equipment or to learn about Mesa's haunted history. It is so much fun and I actually learned a lot. I had a reading with Michelle, who gave me really meaningful and accurate answers to the questions I had. Lastly, I've participated in a seance there. (Note: While the museum is the location for the seances, they're run by Sarah of Flitter Mouse.) The seance was awesome--we learned about Victorian spiritualism and had some really amazing things happen. The museum and its activities are just a fantastic place for anyone interested in the spooky side of life. You don't need to wait till Halloween to take advantage of all it has to offer.

When visiting my parents who are snowbirds, we looked into visiting an arcade in the area. I'm a…read morebig killer queen fan, the 5 vs 5 game, and we looked up on the official site the locations that had it in the Phoenix area. This place did not show up, but it was the closest so we decided to go here. We walk in the door and killer queen is standing right in front of us. This is the best arcade in the Phoenix metropolitan area and it's not particularly close. This has everything from new pinball with QR codes and sign in rewards and tournaments, to old-school pinball, and really obscure cabinets. We saw them multiplayer arcade games, like Simpsons and ninja Turtles and area 51. They have rare games like the Batman arcade game to super monkey ball with the banana joystick. Having a full room for dance dance revolution with chairs so that a group could go and experience it together ensure each other on is high level arcade experience. Plus the idea of that once you get in with the admission fee, you get to play as much as you want on anything you want is incredible. Folks may not realize that a lot of pinball games these days are a dollar to two dollars per play. If you're bringing in anyone that isn't accustomed to it, will you make back the admission fee back by just a couple of pinball cabinets. And then, if you wanna leave get lunch, or leave and go to a brewery, you can come back with the same wristband on it and they let you back in. Same thing goes if you're with a group of kids and you want to go to Dairy Queen or something, you can go right back in and keep playing. I brought two college age kids here, and of course a lot of these games they haven't played before, but I didn't need to keep a pocket full of quarters, I could just let them roam and we met up periodically to play some group games together. They loved it. They got to be kids again. Why is the five stars are not just a simple four stars is that the little things also matter or like concessions. Bottled water is a dollar. The vintage and playful toy decor is super fun. There's free parking. I don't think every arcade these days needs to be a bar arcade where you get 60% bar and 40% arcade. I like places like this a lot more where the games of the focus the fund is the focus, and then if you want to do your adult things you can do those offsite. I fully recommend this place to any grandparents in the area and you gotta bring some grandkids to do something or burn a few hours. And if you're in town for a ball game or something like that in the area, consider going here as a fun change up, especially when it's scorching hot outside.

I did the "pick 2" combo for access to Butterfly Wonderland and the UFO Experience, and though the former was far more interesting and enjoyable, I'm glad I was able to check out both during my recent visit. Service was great as I interacted with staff at the arizona boardwalk, and the place wasn't overly crowded on a Sunday, which I appreciated.
