You have jacked up your prices where the lower socioeconomic people and those struggling right now cannot purchase items from you. This is terrible. Sure, you have rehab centers that no one knows anyone who has benefited from. Yet there you are with your "Apple Pay" and "Venmo" QR codes asking for donations in grocery stores and other places. No more bell ringers. Just QR codes. The products you have donated to you are FREE. They are not the cream of the crop. Broken dressers for $79.00. Filthy chairs for $40.00 each. Side tables made of composite wood that has gotten wet $39.99. Ridiculous. No one wants to pay that for damaged goods. And your clothing just went up also. READ THE ROOM. look at your community .

The prices are really reasonable compared to other third stores in the area. The store is well organized and clean. I found several nice vintage pieces of glass during my visit and some notecards. The staff is comprised of volunteers that are welcoming, super friendly and helpful. The clerk carefully wrapped my purchases so that they wouldn't break. They accept donations, too. Eventually we went to the counter and there was a young woman, maybe a teenager, ducked on the counter on her phone and eating hard boiled eggs, she told us to wait, so she got off her phone and called someone else from the back to come do the register. It seems that this place has always had trouble keeping their volunteers. They do have some good items and very good prices.

I came in around 3 PM and wasn't greeted, which isn't a big deal, just unusual compared to my past visits. At 3:59 PM, a staff member approached me and said "we would like to close, it's 4 PM." The doors were already locked and the open sign had been turned off. I apologized, as I had mistakenly checked the hours for a different thrift store--completely my fault. That said, the interaction felt a bit abrupt and not very welcoming. I've always appreciated the environment here, and that's a big reason I shop here regularly. Unfortunately, this experience left a negative impression. With so many thrift stores around, customer experience really makes a difference and today felt very unwelcoming. Would like to note, I've been there around closing before and usually they make an announcement and are super friendly, today that was not the case.

So this store is always half-off. Which sort of doesn't make sense, why not just price things lower to begin with... but I digress. Compared to other Goodwill locations in the area, this location seems to have less of the designer/ consignment feel and more of a typical thrifting feel. I have found a lot of great casual and work clothing, items typically end up being $2- $7 each. The women's section is the largest, but they also have men's, kids', and some housewares/ furniture. As with all Goodwill stores, you can get a small discount (15 cents I think) if you bring your own bag. I've always found the store to be clean and the employees to be helpful and competent.

One of my latest projects is trying to go and collect all the books on one of my favorite book…read moreseries- and before I start plumbing the depths of the abysses known as Amazon and eBay, I always make it a point to hit up the area thrift stores for books and bargains, and the local smattering of Goodwills are always one of my first stops. It's clean, and there's not a lot of stuff really cluttering up the aisles, which is a really good thing- I admit to being one of the people most likely to fall over random junk in the aisles, so being able to move about the store is a great thing. There's also lots of space, and you never really feel like you're going to accidentally slam the cart into the shelves. On the other hand, though... if you're looking for something absolutely specific, this really isn't the place for you. Goodwill's inventory changes every single day, and if you're not the first one there to dig through the new finds as they get tossed up onto the shelves, then you're just going to be out of luck- as is what happened to me. I couldn't find a single book, but we did find a nice coat that was a pretty nice buy for a family member who needed one! If you're just out hunting for bargains, then this might be a good place to just take your time and rummage through the stuff on the shelves, and lots of what they have is pretty decent quality- the clothes on display were all clean and looked pretty good, but the books were unsorted, and not really in any semblance of subset- sci-fi, fantasy, modern day- you had to go shelf by shelf to see if there was anything there to buy. At least they split the books into hardcover/softcover... My only other complaint here is that the books go all the way down to the ground- how is someone who can't bend over or is in a wheelchair supposed to be able to look at all the books, or even reach them without help? It might help if they had some bigger shelves for them so people didn't have to get down and lean over to see just what was in stock, and it might also help if they managed to sort everything by genre, too. In the end, all I can really give this place is a three out of five. It's a thrift store, nothing more, nothing less. You'll have a hard time finding something specific, but if you're in the mood to dig, stop on in and see what you can find!

I dropped off a donation at the Portage Goodwill and was immediately greeted with attitude. The…read morefirst thing I was told was something along the lines of "next time you come with this much stuff we will refuse you and send you to the main distribution center." I drive a minivan and only had about six bins plus a few garbage bags of fall pillows. It may have looked like more than it actually was, but it was not an unreasonable amount of donations. I tried to help unload by setting a couple of bins on the ground. I was told--quite rudely--not to do that again because they don't like to bend down. I get that, but the way it was said made me feel like I had committed a federal crime for simply trying to be helpful. The other employee had a bad attitude as well. They fed off each other the entire time, like Batman and Robin of bad moods. Usually the staff offer to return the bins, but that didn't happen either. Overall, the negative attitudes really stood out. Everyone can have a bad day, but the way these two interacted made the whole drop-off experience unnecessarily unpleasant.
