I came to Dr. Chong for my first physical since 2016, expecting a serious and thorough evaluation…read more Instead, he ignored my extremely high cholesterol levels and my documented family history of multiple early cardiovascular deaths. That is a critical red flag that should have prompted immediate action. His only response was, "LDL cholesterol elevated," with no plan or explanation. I had no idea what that meant, and when I asked for more information, he gave me generic wellness advice. I had to consult medical professionals in my family on the mainland to actually understand my lab results, which clearly required urgent attention and statin therapy. When I asked about statin treatment (perception medicine) and addressed his lack of explanation and billing practices he sarcastically replied, "Clearly your medical knowledge is advanced and you are free to find another physician to care for you." He then abruptly ended the conversation and cut off all communication. This was not a misunderstanding. This was a doctor refusing to treat a serious medical condition, dismissing standard questions, and pushing a patient out the door. He also billed me for an unnecessary ultrasound, despite his office requesting my MRI weeks earlier and never reviewing it. That is either negligence or intentional overbilling. The waiting room feels more like a sales floor than a medical clinic. Based on other reviews, non-Asian patients are regularly treated as an afterthought. If you care about your health, go elsewhere. This is not a doctor who takes patient care seriously.

Being an extreme athlete I have suffered many injuries throughout the years, in-fact I have had arthroscopic knee surgery on my right knee and a disk removed in my neck due to overuse. Fast forward to 2015, I had yet another surgery scheduled for my other knee and then...I got notice of the big C. Being that breast cancer took presidency over my knee, I put that surgery on hold. Since then Dr. Chong got licensed to perform PRP shots, a non-invasive shot using your own blood to heal. I received three shots in the knee I had put the surgery on hold and two shots on my right knee that I had surgery on in the past (this worsened because arthroscopic knee surgery removes part of your meniscus, which you actually need). I honestly never thought I would be able to jog or hike again and now I have zero pain. Even though insurance doesn't cover this yet, I would have payed way more after insurance for the surgeries not to mention they would have removed pieces in my body that actually belong there. Dr. Chong values and morals supersede most, so rest assured he doesn't just inject anybody. Both my Sister and Cousin were turned down because their situations were such that he didn't believe PRP would help them. PRP is great for arthritis, meniscus tears, rotator cuff injuries, plantar fasciitis and much more. I highly suggest scheduling a consultation to learn more about it and if can help you like it did me. A little bit about PRP... Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a substance that' promotes healing when injected. Plasma is a component of your blood that contains special "factors," or proteins, that help your blood to clot. It also contains proteins that support cell growth. Researchers have produced PRP by isolating plasma from blood and concentrating it. By injecting PRP into damaged tissues will stimulate your body to grow new, healthy cells and promote healing. Because the tissue growth factors are more concentrated in the prepared growth tissues, thus promoting faster healing.

At the initial appointment, Dr Kan went over a thorough explanation of my injury, what he would do to fix it, how long the procedure would take, and what to do after the procedure. All in under 10 minutes, and that included my questions. I was pre-registered the week before the appointment. I mean, they disbursed the medication I would need the WEEK before so no need to go to the pharmacy while disoriented from anesthesia. On the day of, everyone checked in on the ipad, and I pre-paid before the procedure. Prepping was done super fast and I didn't wait long for anything. I elected to sleep rather than hear the "crunching sounds" from the procedure (didn't sound pleasant). After sleeping an hour or so, one of the nurses woke me up and called my sister for pickup. The day after, my shoulder felt better than it had in months. Would definitely recommend Dr Kan and his team to anyone!

With the results, the next step was an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon. Scheduling the appointment caught me off guard. I inquired on the first available appointment as my injury was in early-July. Sunday was offered. A doctor who works on Sundays? I took it. Then, a little over a week prior to the appointment I received another phone call from the doctor's office asking to move up my appointment from the afternoon to mid morning on that Sunday. This worked better for me as I was anxious to the results of my injury and what direction to take. Because it was a Sunday, I opted for street parking and walked to Hale Pawa'a. I arrived 20min prior to my appointment as I anticipated forms to complete. To my surprise, I arrived to his office in suite 110 but was advised to check in across the hall at All Access Ortho (AAO) in suite 102. Because my information is already with AAO, check in process was quick with only one sheet to complete, requesting me to document my current status since my injury. I then returned to suite 110 with my completed form. I didn't even sit down for 5min and my name was called. The staff escorted me to an examination room and in less than 5min Dr. Kan entered. I found Dr. Kan to be very personable and informative. He explained my situation where I understood. He broke things down where facts were stated and what action to take. I was dreading the thought of surgery but it is what it is. I want full mobility of my left arm and when advised this is a common procedure with a high success rate. With physical therapy post surgery, I was advised I'll be back to normal. With that explanation, I trust Dr. Kan and I agreed. I now await the approval of the insurance company before I can schedule this procedure. Overall, a positive first experience and now feel better knowing of my current condition and what steps are needed for recovery. I'll admit there's a part of me that's concerned but I need to trust the professional. Dr. Kan and his staff extended me with great customer service and care where this business is worthy of a 5-star rating.

I was absolutely terrified going into this surgery, but he took the time to clearly explain why I needed it and what to expect, which made a huge difference for me as a very anxious person. The surgery itself was scary, but everything went smoothly and my recovery has been just as positive. Thanks to Dr. Bellino, I went from living with constant, chronic pain to having none at all. I truly do not regret this surgery for a second and am so grateful I went through with it. I'm now preparing for a hardware removal, and once again he has been incredibly thorough, patient, and reassuring while explaining the process. I was also breastfeeding during this entire experience, including surgery and recovery, and he was very understanding and supportive of that as well, which meant more to me than I can express. On top of that, he has been incredibly accommodating and understanding of the unique challenges that come with being active-duty military, which can be difficult to navigate in civilian care. Dr. Bellino is kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely compassionate. And as a bonus, his mustache deserves its own five-star review. I cannot recommend him enough. If you're nervous, in pain, or looking for a surgeon who truly listens and cares, you're in excellent hands.

At the time, I rarely saw my PCP more than once a year, but I gave in to making an appointment to get a referral with an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Jay Marumoto. After having X-rays and an MRI of my knees, it was determined that I had developed meniscus tears and was a candidate for bilateral arthroscopic meniscus repair. Before the surgery, Dr. Marumoto said he expected me to recover and return to my daily activities quickly because of my fitness level and age. So, I had meniscus repairs done on both knees at the same time while I was actively in the workforce and recovered quickly within several months. However, he also warned me that I'd probably have to return in about 15 years as he could see the beginnings of osteoarthritis and knee replacement could be in my future. Well, I returned within 15 years to Dr. Marumoto, who honestly told me that deciding when to have surgery is up to me. He didn't pressure me into having surgery, and luckily, my pain level is still very low, manageable through exercise, and I've been keeping up my fitness level for faster recovery. I can see myself having the more invasive knee replacement surgeries soon but have several upcoming trips planned up through mid-2025, so I chose to delay surgery and go through a series of physical therapy for further knee functional strengthening or "prehab" at JACO Rehab. I like Dr. Marumoto's candid approach and attention to detail. He identified the health issue(s) and explained effective treatments. He also described expected results and recovery but pointed out the possible risks, as with any surgery. Now, I wish I had followed my parents' advice about swimming for health benefits instead of focusing on land-based activities, which have exacerbated my knee joints' osteoarthritis.

I wanted to make sure I had the right Dr and nursing staff that is gonna be helping me through my surgery process before, during and after. I did my research and asked a lot of people who's a good orthopedic surgeon. Everyone and I mean everyone told me bout Dr Marumoto. No joke this guy did a lot of my friends surgeries along with my friends parents surgeries and even my coworkers. I was already wowed with everyone's answer. During my first visit he told me straight up by just looking at my MRI that if I don't fix this shoulder problem by doing surgery that it'll only get worse. He also said it's a free country and I don't need to get this surgery too. He may seem a bit forward and intimidating but he's straight to the point and I like how he didn't sugar coat anything. During my surgery appointment there was an incident that happened that they had to cancel my surgery appointment. I was like oh no I gotta wait another 2 weeks but the staff was nice to reschedule it the next day after they fixed the problem. One day wait no problem for me. The Dr and his staff had no control over the problem at the hospital for cancelling my surgery appt anyway. I would wait however long as long the surgery was to be successful. During my surgery process all the nurses and staff explained everything and answered all my questions professionally. Now the after surgery process. Rhealyn has been my best friend during the after surgery process. She been answering everything everytime I would call or leave a message. I would call everyday the first week and every other day the second week. Sorry Rhealyn I know I can be a handful lol. So I'm gonna end this review where if you need an orthopedic surgeon I advise you to do your research or ask around I'm sure someone's gonna mention Dr Marumoto. He's been in this for 30+ years and his nursing staff is top notch too. Y'all will thank me later.

The providers and staff here are super competent, professional, gentle, warm and respectful. It's actually a hard feat to maintain all these qualities but they do it well. Emelie at the front desk who kept meticulous track of my billing, my appointments, my pcp referrals, my emails all with a friendly greeting each time. I could overhear her greeting all the patients in the same way, with warmth and professionalism. She knows the ins and outs of insurance, referrals, approvals etc and I appreciated her communication with my pcp's office. My own physical therapist Eric was knowledgeable, professional, beyond competent, kind and compassionate. The other providers in the office that I observed working with their patients were much of the same. What is most impressive is how they strike a balance of friendliness and professionalism. I saw them truly caring for their patients. Physical therapy isn't a quick fix for an issue. But this is a great team to guide you back to health. Be as patient and hard working in your recovery as they are. You'll see results. And if you have issues that maybe don't necessarily warrant a doctors visit or if your doctor won't refer you but you want to see a healthcare provider to guide you about musculoskeletal issues, you can make an appt and pay out of pocket. Of course it's not cheap but to put it in perspective, it costs more to get eyelash extensions. And these providers have years of schooling and experience backing them. I didn't know this but PT isn't only for injuries but can be applied to other issues like migraines and vertigo.
