This place is absolutely fantastic! The staff is very knowledgable and friendly-they even have a lunch menu with homemade soups and different types of sandwiches that feature their cheese which is awesome. They also do really nice catering plates--I got one of the mini cheese and chucutterie plates and brought it to a party-everyone absolutely loved it. The plate was put together so nicely with little flags on the cheese so you knew which one it was and the meats were very tasty. They pretty much have any type of cheese you could imagine, and it is hard to walk out of the store without buying something. This is the type of place you feel SO good shopping at and supporting a local shop. Things there are pricey-but you are paying for excellent quality and service. I always look forward to going back to try yet another cheese that I have yet to have--I love how the cheese also rotates based on the time of year and what is available. They also have various cheese tasting events either at the shop or at another local establishment. Had a really tasty, toasted vegetarian sandwich of the day (mozzarella and pesto) and their tomato bisque soup. Their mozzarella is outstanding, so flavorful, though the sandwich is more diminutive than I would have thought. The tomato bisque has za'atar seasoning on it and this smoked taste which is unique and very middle eastern-tasting, really flavorful. We brought home the leftovers. Also attended the Cheese and Whiskey class, which was 90+ minutes of minutes of warmth, laughter, detailed information, and fascinating tastes. I had the most enjoyable time hearing all the details about the cheese and whiskeys we were sampling, and though I wasn't a big whiskey drinker going in to the class, I was surprised at how much I really appreciated the different types offered, particularly paired with a similarly large range of cheeses, from goat to aged gouda to manchego to the most amazing and creamy blue - just pure bliss. Picked up some cheddar thats nutty and buttery and creamy and pricey. :) They have a beer/wine fridge with very interesting options. I picked up a can of Chatham Brewery Oktoberfest and a can of Ah-So Rose. So many crackers and preserves and fresh local bread and cookies! It's a pretty spacious shop for your cheese and charcuterie needs. My friends and I got a hard goat cheese and soft cow cheese that was recommended. Both were delicious. The goat cheese was especially a big hit... I believe it was from Netherlands and called mekkerstee. I also ordered the masala grilled cheese, which was delicious. All the flavors complemented each other well. I was tempted to buy more things like the birthday ice cream sandwich or the malai rose ice cream, but I controlled myself. But next time, that definitely won't be the case. Everyone was nice and knowledgeable. What more do you need from a cheesemonger? We did takeout, but you can eat in, as they have tables and chairs in the front of the store. read more

Second Mouse Cheese is one of the greatest shops I have encountered. I have had cheese/charcuterie plates, sandwiches, soups, and desserts, and I have never been disappointed. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and are more than helpful with any recommendations or questions I have had. They were also incredibly gracious and understanding when I came in with my (appropriately carried) support animal. Sometimes wishes do come true. I was in the mood to try new cheeses, and considered traveling far and wide to satisfy my desires. Little did I know, right in my town of Pleasantville existed the finest cheese shop I could ever hope for. Upon entrance I knew this was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately during these times we can't taste. I should add the shop takes every necessary precaution to make sure we can enjoy purchasing their delicacies safely. I purchased a St Stephen cheese, a Gouda they called Reypenaer XO, which is probably the greatest Gouda I've ever had. I also added some duck pastrami as a treat just for me. We will never go to this place. The wife and I tried to go into this place with our service dog, she is always in an enclosed carriage. The guy behind the counter yelled from across the way no dogs, didn't even ask if the dog was registered or not. I don't see how they can be considered friendly. Although the shop is local to me and I've heard nothing but raves about all its tempting offerings, today was my first time shopping there. What a gem! Came into the shop via the ad on the Peak radio station. Second Mouse is a small shop full of gourmet curios and is cluttered with interesting products from all over. I was overwhelmed by the amount of signage and menu options in the shop during my first visit, but the employees were friendly and helpful. However, my second visit was on the weekend and it was quite busy. The employees seemed overwhelmed and I didn't feel comfortable making another cheese purchase due to the chaos behind the counter and the meat and cheeses sitting out on the same surface. I will be coming back during my next drive through pleasantville, but I will be sure to limit my visits to weekdays where things are calmer and cleaner. read more

This is a really nice shop right across from the Jacob Burns Film Center, it was perfect for lunch before a movie. This shop is just what the neighborhood needed. I went in with a mission to get a brie cheese for a party I was to attend later that evening. The lady at the counter(I later learned was the owner) immediately tended to my needs and allowed me to sample several types of local cheeses. She taught me more about brie cheese than I ever could have known and that Brie is actually named for cheese in a certain region of France). After much sampling, I ended up choosing an organic cheese from Vermont. I bought a whole wheel and cut it in half taking half to the party and half in my fridge. Beyond having amazing products, the assistance I received was 1st class. I wish I asked for the employees name but she was so helpful. So today was the second time my husband and I stopped in for sandwiches. First time I bought the Alpino sandwich, it would have been delicious if not for the rubbery sourdough baguette, so was the loaf of bread we bought for about $10. Went back again today to try again. I ordered two Alpino sandwiches, soda and chips, two lentil soups, and 1 gazpacho soup. The lady brought out the wrong soups and that had to be corrected. When We got to our picnic, we opened our boxes to see we were given two grilled cheese sandwiches with ham ( I don't spend $18 for grilled cheese, I can make the same at home for less). Needless to say we were highly disappointed, again! When I called the shop, the lady was surprised because she says she made the sandwiches and put them out front. While I was waiting for my order, I kept checking if she was done. I did not see her making the sandwiches out front, so I thought she was making it in the back.. she insisted she made the right sandwiches and maybe it was mixed up when she put it out front at the register. She did not offer to check if there was a mix up, did not seem concerned, nor did she offer any apology. She just kept saying "Okay, Okay, to my complaint. If I lived closer to the shop I would have returned it, but I live 20 mins north. Though the staff seem to be nice, I did not think this lady was professional in handling my complaint. She just wanted to make sure I knew it was not her fault, because she made the "Right" sandwiches. She had also brought out the wrong soups, too. Maybe that was someone else's fault, too. I read about this cheese shop in the Journal News. It sounded interesting so I went in to try it out. FANTASTIC! There is a very large selection of interesting cheeses, some foreign, some from New York and Vermont. Ivy is very knowledgeable about everything in the shop. There is excellent charcuterie, some of it from Larchmont! The staff makes you feel right at home, they let you taste any of the cheeses or charcuterie before you buy and their recommendations are spot on.
