This place is expensive but, in my opinion, definitely worth it. They know a ton about cheese. A friend has a penicillin allergy but loves soft cheeses and they were the first to find me a soft cheese that he loved that didn't use penicillin mold! They do a great job of pairing cheeses with jams and crackers for their boxes. A recent unexpected favorite is asking for a cheese to pear with their pear mostarda (you have to try it!!!). Also, loooove their chocolate selection. I never leave without at least one bar. They have a Singaporean white chocolate that is now my favorite. read more

This cheese shop is the best. The staff is very very knowledgeable . The grilled cheese sandwich and their other baguette sandwiches are so good. Everything is top notch and very clean too. The owner could be a little bit more personable but his staff makes up for it. read more

Outstanding one of a kind place. Great merchandising knowledgeable staff rare selections I hadn't been in a while and was blown away I came in with a vague request for a cheese I turned out to be mispronouncing and misspelling. "Bitto". Despite my referring to it as Brito the owner I think and Rachel threw themselves into figuring it out and quite quickly without using their damn phones told me the cheese I was looking for, and sampled me three cheeses that tasted similar, one was called Hornbocker. All from Switzerland and near the region in question. Wow. Impressive attention to customer needs. On a whim I got their sandwich of the day even though I had extensive lunch plans already. This pre-lunch was too enticing to pass up. Really nice baguette delicious jam creamy Connecticut Brie type cheese and Parma. Damn. They nailed this. Sandwich easily just as good as what you might find as some coveted spot on a lonely planet guide with lines out the door. The merchandising is incredible - great hard to find high end tinned seafood incredible Jose andres ham flavored potato chips (get these!) McConnell ice cream. Sort of the best if everything. My office wanted to send a gift basket to our grieving friend and his family. Since we are not in CT, I searched online for cheese shops. I called the Greenwich Cheese Company to see if they could create a cheese and meat basket for us and deliver it. Pamela told me that it was not customary for the shop to deliver. but because of the circumstances she would see what they could do. After confirming with her manager, she contacted me to say that yes they would customize a gift basket AND deliver it to the family that day. I gave her an estimate for what we wanted to spend and then she helped me "virtually shop." She literally took a basket and via the phone described what was available. She gave excellent recommendations and provided clear descriptions of the variety of items. I was delighted with the selections that we made. At the end of the call, she verified my information and the delivery address. I asked her to call me back with the overall total once she had a chance to ring it up. A few hours later she called -- the total was within $8 of our estimate! That afternoon, my friend called to share that he had just received the most amazing gift basket! He was so appreciative of the variety of foods. He was expecting his extended family to arrive the next day for the funeral services later in the week. He couldn't imagine a better gift and was sincerely touched. He sent a picture of the massive basket overflowing with delicacies. Many thanks to Pamela and the staff at Greenwich Cheese Company that gave joy to our friend in need. You truly went above and beyond my expectations! Rest assured, you will be back. Unfortunately, it will likely just be to pick up your order. Their platters are great, as is their cheese selection, but if you want them to create a platter you will need to visit them in person to see the cheese and meat selection. The available stock is not online and if you call to ask, they say it takes too long to tell you. After you come in to select the cheeses it takes them another full day to make the platter. Hence, you will be back. The cracker & bread option is not worth the add on. They literally just place a loaf of bread in a paper bag without even wrapping it first. Having said that, their medium sized platter (cheese and meat) was a hit at the dinner party we brought it to, which it should have been with a price tag of $175. read more

The worst customer service I have ever encountered. Rude and downright disrespectful. Ordered platter from their Fairfield location in error. Instead of making me one in Cos Cob(where I live), they wanted me to buy an entirely new platter. $114 dollars, btw. Do not give this store business. This is a great cheese shop with an extensive collection and the staff really know the different cheeses and will help you find one that you like. Also, they save your prior orders so if you bought one that you like but cannot remember the name, they are able to look it up. They also have great pate and a selection of charcuterie. Tip - get there early enough to get one of their baguettes. Park in the back where there is plenty of room. read more

Staff is very knowledgeable. I love getting a handful of "orphans" when I stop in. Their grilled cheese is sinfully delicious, although the filling could definitely be more evenly distributed. Greenwich cheese co. is hyper focused on quality, artisanal products. This includes their carefully selected and sourced cheeses, as well as the accoutrements. Incredibly knowledgeable staff who I love talking to about the products. Large selection of raw milk cheeses which are nearly impossible to find in a traditional grocery store. Cheese school is great- I learn so much every time I go. My clients rave about the gift boxes I send from here. Not a place for folks who are not into high quality, well sourced food products. Greenwich Cheese Company is amazing! There are so many delicious cheeses and options that it could be overwhelming, but luckily they have an amazing staff that know the products so well. They can help suggest new cheeses for you to try based on those you already know you like and, of course, they give you a sample to make sure you enjoy it. I have found some of my favorite cheeses since shopping here. One must try is their pimento cheese. It is NOT like the pimento cheeses from containers, it is amazing with a little kick. Also, if you already have your wine picked out, they are good about helping you find the right pairings. All in all and joy and worth spending a bit more for great cheese and service! read more

Great variety of cheeses, crackers, salami and other items that are perfect to host a party or treat yourself after a long day at work. I'm so happy to have this shop so close to my home. Unfortunately, they don't seem to get my favorite cheeses in all the time and they always run out of bread so you end up having to run to multiple shops. The woman told me that she doesn't seem to sell it all during the week which makes sense because no one is entertaining. My advice, order more bread for the weekends and holidays. read more

Not so "Amazing" grilled cheese. I ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup. $15.69 later!! They did ask if I wanted anything on it. No thank you. I got it to go as I thought on a cold day like today it would be nice and warm. Got back to my office (1.5 miles away) and found there were pickles in the box that leaked into the bread. I abhor sweet pickles. They make me ill. Had I know I would have said "no pickles". Dumb me for thinking plain is plain. SO now my sandwich is inedible and my office smells like dirty, sweet, vinegary feet. Tomato soup was okay. But given the fact that I could not eat the sandwich, not good. Better off donating the $15.69 than wasting it, especially this day and age. read more

Great shop with an extensive selection.They will sample anything for you and so far all that I have purchased has been great. The service and selection reminds me of the old cheese store that was on the avenue sans the saw dust If you have a chance to try the grilled cheese and tomato soup go for it. Great, extensive cheese selection. They sell lots of interested honeys and condiments which compliment their products. Also, they have the best grilled cheese tomato soup lunch in the county.
