Solid deli. I was driving past here and I could see the line inside from my car. I figured that anyplace that popular must be good. Inside is typical deli, and this place had lots of workers working on orders. Fresh bread, quality deli accoutrements, all were to be seen. I ordered the Godfather: a foccacia bread sandwich with prosciutto, capicola, peppers, cheese and balsamic vinegar. $10 and 5 minutes later, I had a hand-made to order sandwich of deliciousness. I consider myself a sandwich connoisseur and I'm known as a go to guy for sandwich recos. This place is one of my favorites. Although I get the same sub nearly every time. Try the Grilled Chicken and Fried Peppers. Not even sure it's on the menu. I get it without cheese. I sometimes add Fried Hot Peppers (but be careful - they are hot). It's delicious. And huge. And somewhat healthy (not fried, no cheese, some veggies). Easily a 5-star deli. Hot bar is always good. read more

The recommendations were flying in, so Rose Hill was tested. Four times later, I can accurately depict this establishment for my fans. Pauly D spinach wrap is fantastic. At this point, it is my go-to subject to change, of course. Not sure why they don't fold the wrap closed at the end, but hey, everyone has a style. The staff is friendly as can be, and the service is fast, honest, and commendable. Laurie runs the place, and by god, she is a saint. A warm greeting and a feeling of casual acquaintance always helps a sandy go down smoother. It seems as though the spot is getting the recognition it deserves because it always has a crowd. I am certainly going to continue going in for Sandys and antipasto. I went for breakfast once, and the BEC did not compete with Frank & Joe's (see previous review). If they get your order right you're in good shape. But if they don't, you'll be paying too much either way. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese, double bacon, double cheese. They tried to give me a regular BEC. I had to step in and insist to add more ingredients that I paid for. The cook seemed slow or inattentive. He was fumbling eggs and bacon on the grill. My friend didn't get any cheese on his BEC. How does that happen? The cashier seemed overwhelmed and under patient. The credit card machine didn't work and he didn't seem to know how to fix it. We catered my daughters confirmation with my intermediate family. We remember Lori when she owned J & G Deli in Eastchester Ny (Chester Heights hamlet) and her deli was amazing. When we found out she opened a deli in Thornwood a few years ago we were very happy. So we ordered the Chicken Scarp, Eggplant Parma and some other side dishes. My review would've been 5 for the food alone, but I wanted to say the service deserves even more than 5. I ordered breakfast for Mother's Day this morning. My wife was looking forward to scallion cream cheese with her bagel. I was told unfortunately they were out. Not that big of a deal. First time going; I called my order in and already was disappointed with the service I got on the phone but understand that a lunch rush can be stressful and customer service won't always be a priority with a line. I ordered a sandwich and was told it would be ready in a few minutes. It wasn't ready when I got there but that wasn't a problem. I ate half of my sandwich when I got it and saved the second half for later. Started to eat the second half and bit into something so hard it chipped my tooth. This deli was great under Jim's ownership. Fast service and personable staff. Once they took on new ownership, all that went out the window. While they considerably updated their menu and renovated, I was appalled by their customer service. As someone of whom is lactose intolerant, I need to be attentive to consumption of dairy. Repeatedly when ordering a bacon & egg sandwich - NO CHEESE, they still put cheese in it, to where I've had to return it and have them remake the sandwich. The last time I ordered, "bacon & egg, no cheese; no cheese on anything, please," the server then repeated the order of the next patron, "bacon, egg, & cheese." Considering I had just made a similar order and his poor track record, I was under the assumption he was incorrectly repeating my order. "No. No cheese, please." I shouted over the customers. "I wasn't talking to you. Relax! That's not your order!" My jaw dropped. His tone was totally inappropriate. You don't yell at your customer to relax. As someone with food sensitivities, I have to be on top of what I eat. I was under the impression that this business would accommodate food allergies. Apparently they only just barely tolerate it. Went here today to see one of the women making orders with only one rubber glove on. At first I thought, okay well she won't touch the food with that hand.... I Watched her dig through lettuce with her bare hand, then go to the cash register and handles cash with that same bare hand, and then went right back to making Sandwhiches with that bare hand. I love everything about this deli - except the cashier. The delicious food is prepared quickly, but there is ALWAYS a line while checking out.
