J Huffine said he could help him, and never lost faith in him and ended up being the first one to change the trajectory his life was heading in. I read the other reviews and they bear no resemblance to the program I know. Staff was filled with caring people, kids ate healthy (if admittedly bland) food, they were outfitted with equipment that would have enabled an assault on Mt Everest, and were always kept warm and safe and they did therapy every day...multiple times per day. They would meet with their head therapist (in our case J Huffine) once or twice a week, who would review their progress with the camper and the staff, and then set goals with the staff on what to work on for the next few days. They were under constant care and supervision. Staff themselves while not licensed psychologists were often students pursuing this field of study, or at the very least were experienced wilderness guides working under the direction of a licensed therapist. Evoke no longer runs a program in Oregon due to restrictive laws passed in the state making most wilderness therapy programs difficult or impossible to operate, but their program (Evoke Entrada) in Utah is ongoing. Evoke saved my kid's life, and gave him a new start. Did he enjoy being there? Nope. I don't know of any kid who enjoys being in the hospital or receiving treatment for an extended period of time, but he recognizes that it turned his life around and that it was one of the best things he ever did. J. Don't know if you will ever read this, and haven't talked to you since "graduation" but it worked! He/We won! He is back to being the person he was always meant to be, and you made the difference. He was never in a place where he received more guidance, support and honest caring. Couldn't have done it without you. You changed his life.

I refused because of how they treated me and her to begin with. If we had ohp billing we wouldn't have been denied after an intake and charged. Literally they clearly understand counseling is always recommended after a divorce- they couldn't just watch my kid play with toys a few sessions? They literally forced her to answer inappropriate questions that made her feel weird and scared. When they realized the only diagnosis could be depression from a divorce and how her step mother treats her they decided they wouldn't make the $$$ they wanted to off of us... I believe there are plenty of counseling offices where your child isn't a $$$$$ sign... glad we found a new counselor in Redmond by the airport! He agreed my childs diagnosis wouldn't bring a large treatment bill, and they played my insurance like a flute!
