They all support the homeless and other disadvantaged folks, and I wholeheartedly support that! I stop by once in a while to buy a thing or two not because I need it but to show my support. Over the years I have noticed a couple of things that distinguish this store from the others- 1. The people working here, I believe mostly volunteers, appear to be just a notch nicer and more helpful. Kudos to whoever is choosing and training them! 2. The prices here are mostly lower than the others, especially on clothing and glassware. Several of my friends say the same! 3. They work really hard to keep the sales floor clean and tidy! I hope my fellow Yelpers, especially those who live locally, take a little time to support these fine 5-star folks!

It was large and organized and the prices were very, very reasonable. They have clothes but they also have bric a brac -- including a separate room for glassware; They have tools and related items in a separate area called the man cave; a separate section marked kids; a room with books and records... and artwork and more kitchen stuff and china, et al around the perimeter. Add in the shoes and some furniture plus the jewelry by the checkout counter.... And it's a full merchandise store. Their monies go to helping seniors and for elderly care (and their caregivers) in the area. So it's a good cause. As I said, prices are such that I can't imagine you won't find at least a little something to purchase here.

The items were then given to the people who worked on them or were resold. Goodwill's philosophy is "a hand up, not a hand out". Today Goodwill has become a $5 billion nonprofit organization that provides job training, employment, and community programs for people who have disabilities that might prevent them from getting a job on their own. I was in the area so I decided to check out this Goodwill in Sebring. It was completely different than any other Goodwill I have been to. They still had the same racks of clothes I am used to but they also carried a wide range of brand new household decor items including art, rugs, and decorations. One large part of the store was roped off and it contained hundreds of brand new Halloween costumes in bags. It was a far cry from the one rack of used mismatched costume pieces I have seen Goodwill stores carry in the fall. This store also carries brand new mattresses. This Goodwill resembled more of a Big Lots than the Goodwills I am used to. The prices were on par with those of discount retailer Big Lots as well. They even sell snacks up front. I inquired about what they sell and was told it was new and thrift items. The new items had been donated to them. I don't know if this store is unique or the way Goodwill wants to move in the future. Everything was clean and displayed nicely. I really wanted to find out more about this store but unfortunately they were getting ready to close for the night. If I lived in Sebring I would be a regular customer at this store.

Most all items except the clothing is cheap made and new items priced much higher than the same items from a regular retail store. The furniture was extremely over priced. None of the special finds that make thrifting fun. I love shopping Goodwills and was a regular customer in Jacksonville. I have been in this store several times and have found absolutely nothing I would consider purchasing. I would rate it the lowest of all the Goodwills I have shopped at in my many many years of thrifting. I would give this store an a+ for cleanliness. The employees seemed friendly and knowledgeable. It is the merchandise that should be given a 1 star rating. It is not just that it is overpriced it is the quality and selections. The selection of items spans several rooms and include clothing, furniture, home goods, knick-knacks, collectibles, holiday decorations, art, jewelry, accessories, quilts, and so much more. If you collect it, they have it! I stopped in on my way to the Perch Festival but you could easily spend a few hours here. They had a set of my grandmother's Royal Rose dishes that I inherited, the vintage Pyrex in the turquoise blue I love, and a muffin cup in the Temptation Old World Green I collect. They also had a highly collectible set of Merry Mushroom set of canisters from the 1970's. The ladies working on the day I visited were very nice. I didn't end up purchasing anything because the prices were higher than I was willing to pay. I pick up a lot of these pieces inexpensively at thrift store or yard sales. The Royal Rose dishes especially are everywhere. It is more difficult to find vintage Pyrex especially in pink and turquoise with the lids but this is now so popular, it is pricing me out. The prices here are firm and equivalent to what you would expect to pay on Ebay. I was on the hunt for more of a bargain but it was still fun to explore the Unique Boutique.
