After a day of hittin the dunes, we had to stop for tacos on our way home. Our friends who are part-time desert locals for decades knew just where to go. Upon walking into the market, I was impressed at how big, colorful and super organized this place was. Has everything you need in a market from fresh produce and meats to canned goods and all sorts of things to eat n drink hot and cold. There are coffees, slushies, aguas frescas, sodas and other fountain drinks from south of the border. So many options with or without alcohol. But, to order fresh food, go to the back of the store. You'll find an extensive easy to read menu with clear pics from which to choose. Moreover, the service is friendly, patient and helpful. Be sure to grab some of the home made tortilla chips to go. They're perfect. If you want to eat right away, they have an area with plenty of table seating. I was also so thankful they have very clean and roomy bathrooms available for those of us who have been playing in the desert all day! It is important to note that this is a market and gas station. So it's a one stop shop for supplies n all you need before or after your adventures in the beautiful desert. They even have cigars! read more

Seeley Market might be challenging for my fellow Yelpers to visit because it's out in the sticks aka the boondocks aka ghost town aka No Man's Land. If you're in the El Centro area or are passing through, this place is a mirage for delicious and unbelievable Mexican food. I highly recommend that you place this market/restaurant onto your foodie destination list. If not for a few opportunities, I would rate Seeley Market an easy 5 stars, but I would say it's a solid 4.5 stars for the food alone. Fortunately for me, Seeley Market is close to the Naval Air Facility El Centro, so I have to drive past this business going to and coming from the naval base and it looks I might be making regular visits to the base. Seeley is located in El Centro, CA. To travel here, you would have to take the 8 freeway east and exit off of Drew Road. Look for signs to the Naval Air Facility El Centro. Seeley Market looks exactly like a mom and pop market that includes gas pumps. What is not clear from the outside signage is that Seeley houses a gem of a Mexican fast food restaurant inside. The surrounding area looks rough and as we got out of our car to walk inside, there was an unsavory character (pun intended) lying to the side of the entrance asking something that was indiscernible. I couldn't respond because I couldn't understand him. As you enter the market, it actually looks like a large liquor store that sells groceries. From the main entrance, the Mexican food restaurant is inside to the left. There are menu boards with a list of Mexican food choices. The register is in front of the kitchen and next to a glass case selling fresh meat. Kind of a weird setup. Another weird thing is that after you place your order for the food, you are given a receipt to bring to the main market register to pay. Not efficient at all. If you order an agua fresca such as Horchata, you will be given an empty cup and told to grab ice from their fountain drink machine located in the front of the market, grab a lid and straw, and then bring back to them to fill with your drink. Due to the Coronavirus, their seating area to eat their food was closed. Besides Seeley Market being in the boonies, their weird procedures to pay for their food, and to enjoy an agua fresca, you would really be missing out if you don't order food from this Mexican food oasis. I remember visiting Seeley Market back in October 2019 and hearing from one of the locals that I had to try the Mexican food here, but I decided not to thinking Mexican food here in El Centro could not compare to Mexican food in San Diego. After my first time experience today eating something from Seeley, I was wrong on so many levels after taking my first bite of my Mexican food choice. My method of gauging a Mexican food place on the deliciousness of their food is to order a carne asada burrito or a California burrito. I decided on the California burrito today because you can never go wrong with french fries inside a carne asada burrito. When I opened my to go plastic bag and took out my California burrito, I was amazed at the size of the burrito for the price. This decent sized burrito was $6.99 and it satisfied yours truly. I'm a big dude, who can throw down when it comes to food, so satisfying me is saying a lot. What I really enjoyed after my first bite was the fresh taste of the tortilla. It didn't taste like the typical tortillas I've had at other Mexican food restaurants. Seeley packs their big burritos with plenty of carne asada meat, pico de gallo, and large pieces of french fries. The meat was memorable and finger licking tasty. The red and green salsas provided made my burrito taste even better since I'm a spicy fan. I savored each bite thinking to myself that I need to enjoy this as much as I can because I didn't know when I'll be coming back. It really was that good. I know this might be sacrilegious if I tell this to my family since we all are fans of our favorite Mexican food place in San Diego, Yesenia's, but Seeley Market's version of their California burrito was bigger, tastier, and better than Yesenia's version. Seeley's is definitely a 5 star destination if they work out their opportunities, but one thing that is not an opportunity, is their quality Mexican food. read more

Update: We came back to the Seeley Market to try their restaurant that they just opened. I've heard that the food is good. I took photos of the menu last time we were here so we decided what we would have before we got there (it wasn't that much work, we almost always have the same thing at every Mexican restaurants with only a few other options). I had the Chile Relleno combo for $8.99. It comes with one Chile Relleno, rice, beans and some lettuce with a spoonful of tasty guacamole that only had a bit of lime to flavor. The fajitas had a different seasoning. It was not our favorite. The rice & beans were made in house and were very good. We would definitely go back to try other things. The Caldo de Res is next on my plan to try. My husband will try the enchiladas. Can't wait! We were out of eggs and did not want to drive all the way to town. We weren't going to worry about it until my husband realized he had no dessert. Then it became an emergency-so we decided to try the Seeley Market since it's close. They get most of their customers from the farm workers, the two RV parks nearby and the few that live in the town. We had driven past it once before but were surprised this time just how big it looks from the back. We were happy to see cars outside since there are no hours listed. Luckily, they are open Monday- Saturday 5:00am-9:00pm and Sunday 8:00am-8:00pm with the restaurant inside closing 1/2 hr. earlier than the store. As you enter, you see the long front counter and the massive number bottles of alcohol in all sizes of regular, in beautiful & in decorative bottles. They are prepared. They even have a good selection of fresh veggies for such a small town. The meat case has lots of regular and interesting marinated meats such as carne asada and pollo. They even have frozen foods-a bit of prepared snack and meals as well as frozen meats. This is really nice when you are out of town a ways. They have the regular aisles though obviously not everything as a regular grocery store. The one thing we noticed they lacked was prepared dessert such as muffins or cake. They did have about 5 different kinds of cake mixes so that's what the hubs gets for dessert. They also have Mexican restaurant that operates near the meat case. They have a very interesting selection of entrees from breakfast choices such as machaca and eggs to tacos to combination and dinners. We were sorry we already ate but will try real soon. I'm not sure where you eat since I don't remember tables-maybe there are some outside? We recommend the Seeley Market if you are needing any basic goods. I am sure we will be back now that we know all they have and can't wait to come back to try the Mexican food they cook. read more

I think the staff are great and the market has everything u need for a quick stop before getting on the road, BUt...., the restaurant is absolutely terrible. I ordered 4 burritos ($39.88), asada, chorizo con huevo, and 2 of bean and cheese. And not 1 got eaten more than a couple of bites. The carne asada tasted like slim Jim jerky meat, the chorizo con huevo was one of the nastiest things I've tasted and I lived of MRE's for 6 months, And the b&c was probably just an over cooked can of rosaritas they plopped in a tortilla. This place is great on this side of the valley. It's a one stop shop everything you could need gas, beer, ice In the back they make some outstanding food I always go for the carne asada fries. They give you lots of napkins and more salsa then you will ever need all of them are great. The guys I work with have been coming 3/5 times a week. Order your food in the back walk up to the front to pay along with what ever else you are picking up. Staff is great always happy . I go bi-weekly to go buy the peach soda hyppe bar. Today I bought one that was empty. The manager denied giving me a refund or another one that works. Let's get something straight, their food ordering system is sorta crazy, ya gotta order the food from the kitchen, get a receipt, then walk it up to the front of the store, pay, then walk it back to the kitchen. Seems like a pain in the ass, and it is, BUT the food is so stinkin good, I'd gladly walk on my hands if I had to. Wife and I live in San Diego and take loads out to the naval station some times, usually passing this place on the way home about lunchtime. Stopped in last week and ordered too many tacos to finish while eating in the restaurant, now I'm not usually one to eat leftover Mexican food, cause the tortillas get hard, the rice and beans dry out, you know it just doesn't seem to stay appetizing. Well we enjoyed the food so much that I thought we would try eating the leftovers later. We did for two damn days, enjoying every bit of it! Let's start out with their fish tacos, fried to perfection just the right amount of cabbage and cheese on it, and they seem to be the only people in Southern California using a good chipotle mayo sauce. Their fish taco is as good as Ensenada any day of the week. Their extra hot salsa is frickin awesome too. Adobada is delicious as hell. The carnitas is to die for. I'm giving this deli the full fluff for the best spiced carrots I've ever eaten, and I LOVE spiced carrots. Their secret? The carrots are cooked (until they are "just right") before they are marinated. Best eaten after marinating for a couple of days so the carrots get fully soaked. Call ahead if you want the big 32 oz. container to take with you. Julia and Paloma are very personable and will be happy to accommodate you, especially with advance notice. A good place to get gas and a few groceries. Gas prices aren't bad for Imperial county and the grocery selection is better than a typical mini-mart. Produce stays on the shelves longer than most grocery stores - but hey, this is way out here in the desert. Oh and it is a good place to get propane, too. read more

When the taco shop first opened up (a little over two years ago) the food was on point. Just this evening (about 2 years later) I ordered rolled tacos and when I bit into the first rolled taco, the texture was as if they had refried it. Meaning, it was deep fried before and deep fried again later on in the day or the next day. I'm a texture person when it comes to food and it definitely was not the first time in the fryer. I'll still come back but won't order the rolled tacos anymore. Pretty diasppointed because I was craving something crunchy. To preface this review I need to say that I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food . So this may sound a bit bias however, I wend and ordered the California burrito and it was beyond amazing . The portions were large and the price was worth it. I would most definitely recommend this place to others .
